My favourite band when I was 15. My friend Matt Johnson, from the band The The, lived in a pub in London when he was a kid. One day, a young man came into the pub and asked could he hire the upstairs bar to rehearse his band. Matt's dad and the young man agreed on £18 for two weeks rent. The band started rehearsing one song, because they were due to record it in a studio. Neighbours complained about the noise, even the Fire Station next door. After the two weeks, the band left without paying the £18 rent. The band was Small Faces and the song they were rehearsing was Itchycoo Park. Matt's dad told me that he liked the song so much that he forgave them for not paying the £18.
People have speculated on where Itchycoo Park actually was/is. People from Manor Park (where the Small Faces came from) usually say it was Little Ilford Park, which was the nickname locally, but you hear other stories from other people.
In a high school science class, the guy sitting next to me and I would write the songs lyrics on the desk during moments of, uh, clarity. All band members were under 5'5'', hence the name. Ronnie Lane penned and sang a great tune "Evolution" on Pete Townshend's first solo album "Who Came First", well woth a listen.
It's hard to believe that his sweet voiced singer later rocked hard with Humble Pie. Steve Marriott was one of the greatest voices in Rock. This was definitely mimed as most TV show performances were in the 60's. The studio recording did have piano and Hammond organ played by Ian "Mac" Mclagan (obviously not at the same time!). All 4 of the Small Faces were outstanding musicians. When Steve quit to form Humble Pie, it took 2 musicians to take his place - Rod Wood on guitar and Rod Stewart vocals. They changed their name to "Faces" and were a totally different band although 3/4 of the Small Faces were the core. I recommend you listen to "You Need Lovin" - you will be surprised to hear where Robert Plant (a huge fan) got his inspriation for "Whole Lotta Love". Please play more Small Faces....
Once Steve Marriot left . . Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood joined and became Faces . . Great band . . Interesting member historys . Great song with cool use of a phase shifting . . Take care till next time . . Bye from NZ👍👋🇳🇿🙂
As I’m of 1952 vintage I can remember this well, great song to vibe to - I still play it every week but since The Warning came along (11 years ago) it’s been difficult to fit it in 😂. Steve Mariot was a great front man and a decent guitarist, Kenny Jones, Ronnie Lane and Ian Mclagan made a great combination, when it changed to Faces I lost interest, it just wasn’t the same. As regards the song, I thought it was great!

@@TFT-JF I remember that I was 13 when it came out. It sounded cool, but it didn't make sense at the time.
It's about acid and pot drugs. That's the best part. I'd like to buy because I was drumming At the time. drum phaser.

It's ok not to remember it. I'm from the UK and I don't remember it from the time. Then again, I was born in 64, so there's that.
This has a Rolling stones connection if i remember right?
Now I remember Rod Stewart connection.
@bossfan49 Yes, then I remember the Faces. 👍
