Guys, I don't know your age- but this was a big hit in the States as well as in Europe.. The Small Faces came into prominence with their first single Ichycoo Park, and this was the follow up. I was 14 when the band was first breaking and a fan. Lots of garage bands in those days covered it...mine sure did. Of course, you know the band's later incarnation, with Rod Stewart on board, when they were simply The Faces. But this was the roots of the band. What I didn't know at that time was that vocalist P.P. Arnold had a place in the vocals, but you can see her included in another video of the tune. Still sounds good to my ears.

Love The Small Faces, in my opinion Steve Marriott is the greatest male vocalist the UK has produced.

Small Faces were HUGE in Great Britain and Europe between 1965-68. They battled Who for third/ forth place behind Beatles and Stones, based on record sales and their scorching live performances.
For various reason, they never came to the US with the "British Invasion", and thus have been fairly unknown. They broke up on NY eve '68/69 when Steve becme fed up with being tagged a "Teen Idol" and wanted to be taken seriously for his talent, not his looks. He joined with Peter Frampton, another frustrated "teen Idol", to form Humble Pie.
PP Arnold has written: "Steve and I were lovers at this time, but he wrote "Tin Soldier" for Jenny Rylance. She was the love of his life." Steve was smitten with Jenny, Rod Stewart's girlfriend, but she was 5 yrs older than him and only thought of him as a friend. When she and Rod broke up, Steve stepped up his wooing and won her over with this song. They were married for 5 yrs before she left him due to constant touring with the Pie, substance abuse and erratic behavior. Says she: "cocaine killed our marriage". Three other great songs Steve wrote for Jenny were "All or Nothing", "Afterglow (of your love)'", and "Autumn Stone" If you are a fan of Led Zepperlin, you should listen to "You Need Lovin", released 3 yrs prior to Zeps cover, you will be surprised to see where Robert Plant got his inspiration.
Also, please try more Humble Pie. I love the song you covered, but there are others that are more represntative of their style. Please try "I Don't Need No Dr." from their Live at the Fillmore album, it a real rocker.

@@glennandadriansrocktalk I should have checked. Sorry, new viewer here.
If you haven't listened yet I highly recommend my favorite Humble Pie song -
"I Wonder", a great blues/rock performance with Steve's very soulful vocals and harmonica solo, plus a killer guitar solo from Clem Clemson - his guitar weeps. Enjoyed what I've heard from you both so far.

This is a mime of the original recording with PP Arnold. Tin Soldier was the only success they had in US. They could not tour because of ‘certain indiscretions’ which did not allow them to tour US at that time! Steve Marriott was one of the best soul singers the UK ever produced. R.I.P.

Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake is a great next step, it was where they were most influenced by Sgt Pepper and is them at their most psychedelic. I would suggest you go there next. Earlier work was in the soul-based mod style which is great, but a bit more mainstream if you will. The bassist, Ronnie Lane did a classic one off with Pete Townsend and of course the drummer, Kenney Jones, was the replacement for Keith Moon back in the day. A lot of intersection with the Who for sure.

Mick Jones from the Clash says he was heavily influenced by the Small Faces. Dee Dee Ramone, primary writer for the Ramones who grew up in Germany, as well.

Steve Marihot, nope it's Steve Marriat, just to help with pronunciation. Made one of the 60'smost eclectic albums "Ogdens Nut Gone Flake". Listen to their early stuff and hear how good they were.

Nope, it's Steve MARRIOTT. If you insist on presenting yourself on a public forum, especially to 'correct' someone, please be careful not to make yourself look a complete chump.
