Hi, thank you for all your videos. Question: when I take away my eye patch, the affected eye stays open (can't blink), but the good eye immediately wants to close. What is that and how can I avoid that?

hello everyone...i was stricken with a facial palsy from a surgical embolization. My right eye (palsy side) will not close without my left eye, and i notice that when i do lay down to sleep my right eye opens a sliver. the date that changed my life this way was April 25, 2023...i am sorry for everyone else going through this, and i am sure like the rest of you we just want our lives back...thank you for posting these videos as i live in an area where there are literally no PTs that have any experience with this, and like every other medical professional like everywhere is backed up, as to see a neurologist was valentine's day of 2024. If anyone has any advice, or anything to help that would be greatly appreciated! thank you so much for reading, and i hope everyone has a great day!

We must be less than 30 facial therapists in the whole USA so not surprise it has been tough to find one.
I am one of them and I would advise you to absolutely not use electrical stimulation. The fact that your physio is using it means they do not know much about facial rehab.
Depending on where you live, I might be able to help you via online consultation to teach you what to do.

"I thought it was suppose to be anti clockwise" Said who? There are multiple ways of stitching. A lot of these stretches should be tailored to your specific presentation. No two cases are exactly the same. On these ideas, I can only show one, generic way...cannot be very specific. But it is safe so you can try the way I show you here and compare results with the way you were doing it...

Thank you, Dr for your video which helps me a lot. Well Bell's palsy recovery is a time-consuming process, I got it in mid of Oct 2023, and in 4-5 months I recovered almost 99%....You explained a very useful exercise in the video. Please be patient, consult with your primary Dr and physiotherapist, and give time to your muscles for recovery because it always takes time. Recovery time is different for every person but in 1 month to 4 months, most people can recover.

I cannot give a detailed answer if I have not assess your current situation. Many things to look at. Is your movement affected because of lack of return of nerve function, or because of tightness and synkinesis blocking your movement? I work with some people that have been dealign with this for several decades, and we tend to always be able to make some progress. But again, I don't have a full picture and cannot be specific to your case.

Ability to close your eye is a priority and you can/should start right away. In regards to other facial exercises and synkinesis, there is a correct way to do them to prevent synkinesis. Many people don't do them right, in a forceful manner and that can lead to synkinesis, yes.
