Two things make Kingdom Hearts unique: disneys IP, and namoura’s very particular style of storytelling. Neither of those things are really possibly to duplicate.
I disagree. The command menu system and control scheme are by far the most unique. It's very strange that we haven't had games that have been heavily inspired by KH in their gameplay until today like Versus would do. Mainly because I REALLY wanted the gameplay base of KH (ESPECIALLY 2) to be taken forward and continue to evolve and see it with other ideas, mechanics and contexts. To me it's always been like KH managed to translate everything we have in an RPG into a truly frenetic action RPG. And to have done that in the 00s is incredible. And I think that would fit really well with Final Fantasy, just making it a little more strategic with the enemy AI and elemental weaknesses without giving up the good quality of the action.
Good video. The game that has combat closest to Kingdom Hearts is probably Final Fantasy VII Remake, which makes sense considering who worked on it. I wish there were more KH clones. DMC has quite a few. There are an infinite amount of Souls clones. I hope more games will take inspiration from KH gameplay in the future.
Square is collaborating with th team behind Reynatis because they are very open about being inspired by their games like TWEWY, KH, Nier, and concepts like V13.
I'm not sure why some people are so hellbent on the idea that you can't replicate the feel of KH's gameplay, because of the story and setting ... Bro what? I mean, if you were asking for a super bright hand with occasional heavy darkness within a multiverse in existing I.P.'s and new worlds/areas/ characters, then I would understand where they're coming from. It would be the same reason most argue can't capture Smash Bros. But it is abundantly clear you're wondering why the gameplay ins and outs, and general formula, isn't emulated more often. You know, ironically the game I've played closest to the formula is DMC V. Now I know that sounds outrageous. But it kind of feels like how I would imagine Sora to be able to fight with that control scheme. Just with like, keyblade transformations and Drive forms. It effectively has HP increases, increases to their equivalent to a Drive gauge, and you learn new action commands in the form of combo strings. It's not that close to KH, I know. But it's genuinely the closest I've gotten to feeling a similar gameplay experience to KH2 specifically. All of this to say; I really think it shouldn't be that out there to tweak some combat and growth systems in a game that is already planned to be an action game to be more like KH. What does KH have that an action game like DMC V doesn't in order to feel more unique? Well for one, there's also passive abilities gained when leveling. They actually share in the common gaming thing of "progress the game to get more abilities and tools." Not everything is tied to leveling up, but it is something KH2 and KH3 even do well in terms of levels only giving stats and passive support abilities, while action commands aka new tools are again, awarded through progression of the game title. I know programming isn't easy. But I feel like it's a relatively easy formula to follow. Oh and KH has equipment. Just like one expects of turn-based RPG's. All in all; I think we're long overdue for this. Honestly I personally don't even need the commands menu, much as I'd like it, if we got a new action RPG that uses the gameplay formula where leveling isn't necessary to win as you get told with progression, but man does it feel good to level up.

The reason Kingdom Hearts has never gained a genre of its own is mainly because of its “4D chess” style storytelling is so complicated that it makes it harder to copy a base formula. That and every game in the franchise is so vastly different, that there is no “true” Kingdom Hearts. They are all part of the grander action RPG genre but they all are creative and interesting with their concepts so it’s never boring to play. There are other action rpgs with similar mechanics, like FF16, but I feel like they are often trying to be more grounded and not as fluid. Nier Automata comes pretty close though, I guess?
I originally made a Hearts clone comic which was about Cartoon Network when I was little so that in the future it wouldve get adapted into a video game series. And..... you probably know what happen to the studio
Here's an idea for a clone, two in fact (the other post got deleted, because it was rubbish). You will love this one more even if you don't like it. This idea is a Dark Souls re-imagining of Cartoon Network and Warner Bros IPs, a fusion of Bandai Namco and Cartoon Network. How would Grim from Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy look like as a Dark Souls Boss, F&%&ing Epic. Meanwhile Ed, Edd N Eddy are trying to learn how to use mythical bong created by Rick and Morty. The game is called The Trip Lands. Master Xehanort is replaced with a parody known as Master Cockbuster who is the man from Aqua Teen Hunger Force's long lost brother. Now our main character needs to not rip off Pippy so I came up with a new name, his name is Dainty (a parody of Dante from Devil May Cry) and his weapon is the Chronoblade a clock themed weapon that is based on the hand ends of the clock. Master Cockbuster is trying to unleash 13 different Crackheads on the planet known as Crack XIII. The Future War is the main event of the Trip Lands and it's based on the terminator films.
The second idea is on SBFW called The Convergence of AxZos and it's F^%$$ing SHIT! I wrote an idea about a possible Nick and Sega team up using bits and peices of Archie Sonic Lore and Alex Bale's MUSE ARG, and it was more convoluted and poorly written than even Normua's fanfiction. It stars someone's elses OC that was re-imagined into a version of Sora. Who is he, he is known as Dexter Fishery and is known for using DDLC characters as weapons while being trained by a manager version of SpongeBob using a magical keyblade like spatula as a weapon. Each DDLC waifu is one of the Drive Forms that you can use while you are on an adventure to stop the Nickelodeon slime that is actually Xorda primordial ooze leading to the August 12th 2036, the Heat Death of the Universe. The fanfic's main villian, Ivan Kintobor / Ian Droid (The Anti-Christ) works for B.O.O.T.S. doing research with Sue Nahmee and "The Lost Ones", however he is framed by Agent Stone who is working on building a prison planet known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution which was an idea established by The Nocturne Clan and their "Fourth Great Civilization". In this bad fanfic you go to several Nick worlds collect the chaos emeralds and defeat those "disgusting black creatures" before the "Real" Eggman (The YTP PINGAS KING) is brought back to life by Sue Nahmee who herself is being used by Ex G.U.N. and her pirate cultists. Obviously if Sega were to team up with anyone, Nintendo or Capcom (preferably Capcom) would be a far better choice for a KH clone setting and wouldn't come across as socially awkward or an unfitting tone for both SEGA and Nick. One of the main complaints of this fanfic is how dark SpongeBob's world is portrayed and how it's not faithful or SpongeBob like at all so the fic never really got finished since it SUCKED BALLZ.
There was one game franchise that is somewhat of a western made Kingdom Hearts clone called The Legend of Spyro Trilogy from 2006-2008 where it came around the same timeframe as Kingdom Hearts 2. Kingdom Hearts wasn't the first and has not been the last. No one "clones" Kingdom Hears cause its only unique thing is the addition of Disney stuff.
This is objectively false. KH is the only game series with the Command Menu system.
A Hearts-like exists and its name is Modern Final Fantasy...
it's literally an rpg
Action RPG
there are ff7 rebirth and remake,ff15,16,13-2 square has literally put the kingdom hearts system into every game they make these days
Inexistent because kh is shit and Disney a lot more
Oh, Look. A blind stupid Hater that knows nothing about Video games at all. I "REALY" like those kinda guys.
Kingdom Hearts is a terrible franchise. That's why you haven't seen any copies of it. Too convoluted, too pretentious, too Disney. The first game was the only good one. People will say the second game was the best one, but I disagree.
With that said, there will be people like you that loved it, become developers and make their own indie version (eventually). I do believe I saw one devtuber actually making a KH like indie. 15 had potential to be good, but it was garbage in the end. What a waste. What a betrayal. All those times they said they wanted to fix it, while only putting out half assed DLC that didn't fix any of the issues.. They also put real life advertisments in that game...what a slap in the face...that was the day that I stopped trusting Squenix completely.
