"This is five straight weeks of the show under 700k." ... it's *NOT* just the last 5 weeks, though. The last 5 weeks have simply been the progression and multiplication of a bigger problem.
IIRC, prior to the Revolution PPV, AEW had *never* had consecutive episodes of Dynamite in its regular timeslot draw under 800k viewers. Since Revolution, they've manage to reach 800k exactly twice: the week of and the week immediately after the airing of the Punk footage, the latter of which (again IIRC) came in at exactly 800k.
This is a trend that has been going on for *four months* now. Denying it does *nobody* any good, least of all AEW and AEW fans.

    • @AdrianBeegoatz
      @AdrianBeegoatz 24 дні тому +2

Omega was never properly pushed in AEW as the “Star” that fans saw him as in New Japan.
Some of that may have been due to Omega’s natural neurotic nature and strange whisper promos, but a lot of it was due to the ‘Booker’ not highlighting Omega’s strengths while downplaying the weaknesses.
I don’t even like the empty-headed cowboy, Hangman Page, but there is serious potential in him as an angry crybaby solo villain. Yet, he’s always glued to the ridiculous Bucks for some reason and they automatically make everything around them a bad joke… 👎🏻
Tony Khan doesn’t understand that those Cucamunga clowns were always secondary background lackeys in larger groups. TK decided to make them the main focus of his top stories and angles because he thinks they are friends, and THAT has been a major detriment to the company and the televisión product…

I am not sure why the two companies are even compared anymore. AEW is closer to TNA's numbers than RAW/Smackdown. That's who AEW needs to worry about. WWE didn't take near as many viewers from AEW as they did gaining audience from brand new fans and bringing back lapsed fans that didn't watch any wrestling at all anymore. Almost all AEW fans are/were WWE fans. Many of them were watching both and just stopped watching AEW like they stopped watching TNA a decade ago. The number of AEW fans that don't also watch WWE content - if not the TV shows and PLE's - is pretty miniscule. WWE doesn't make gains because people are coming over from AEW. They make gains because most people that watched AEW were still watching WWE, then they added a bunch more new people.

      TNA - 100k
      Collision - 300k
      Rampage - 300k
      NXT - 650k
      Dynamite - 650k
      RAW - 1.75 million
      Smackdown - 2.5 million
AEW's big show is ahead by 500k on TNA, and more than a million behind RAW most weeks, nearly 2 million behind Smackdown most weeks. AEW is not gaining ground on WWE, they are trending the other direction, with TNA beginning to trend upward. NXT will undoubtedly surpass AEW by the time December rolls around. What nobody is talking about is that while there is plenty of room for all sorts of wrestling shows in America/the world, MOST people really only have time to dedicate to one or two of them. AEW has already lost being the second option, they are now the third or fourth option. If TNA gains ground on AEW's secondary shows, then one of those shows will get cancelled. Bet. AEW vs. WWE shouldn't really be a thing anymore, but I get it. The impression is that AEW is so close to competing with WWE, all they need to do is tweak this or tweak that. But it's a lot bigger gap than that, and the objects in the rearview mirror are getting bigger. That's the reality of the situation.

You fly everyone in and out for the most part so why would you not drastically change markets week to week. Why are they spending weeks at a time in the same general regions. As an AEW fan, I agree with the rhetoric that most fans that thought WWE sucked and were begging for an alternative now don't feel the need to watch anything else simply because WWE got better. Each product has its own 5 hours or more of wrestling per week, that's a lot, so it was always a losing battle for AEW unless something miraculous happens. Even if Tony Khan books everything perfectly from hereon out, the weekly numbers will barely get better. This isn't to say that the booking is not an issue, it is, but the main issue for AEW is that the top company that is favored by the casual fans got considerably better in the last year or so. It's very hard to battle against that.

Alvarez is insufferable how he solely places the cause on WWE getting hot and it's not because AEW is bad. If he doesn't think it's bad then that's fine, but he shouldn't say it like it's a universal fact. If AEW was so great as he keeps saying then they wouldn't have lost so many fans.
Not everyone thinks spot-fested, obviously choreographed, phony looking gymnastic matches with constant kick outs is good. Problem is, Alvarez and Meltzer call this great all the time but many more people think it's just boring.

AEW was an alternative to the WWE. It was a sports based Professional Wrestling show that was a New Japan/ECW mashup. They mostly had wrestlers that weren’t featured on mainstream TV. It was new, it was exciting. and it was fresh. Imagine if they had signed Jacob Fatu, Alexander Hammerstone, Eli Drake, Jordynne Grace, and Joe Hendry instead of ex WWE wrestlers.
Now? It’s almost entirely about WWE wrestlers. I saw a promo for AEW during the Who Killed WCW show and except for Ospreay, it had former WWE wrestlers featured. A WWE fan isn’t going to watch it, because the Biggest WWE stars are in the WWE. A person looking for an alternative isn’t going to watch, because it’s just like the WWE.

Another problem AEW has is they’re more concerned with creating moments (usually hometown moments) then consistently telling good stories, just like Mike said. I’ll never forget that time they just abruptly stopped Samoa Joe’s ROH TV reign cause they were in Washington and wanted to give Darby Allin a hometown moment. Just to turn around and give it back to Joe 2 weeks. Let’s not even get into Saraya and last year’s All In. Moments are nice but you gotta balance it with proper storytelling. Don’t blow up the story cause you’re in someone’s hometown for a particular week. Hell, you don’t even need to put the hometown hero in a title match to get them over. Just give them a match and have them win. That’s it.

They made that clear by putting the belt on him this quickly and immediately putting him at the top of the card. They are slow walking Pillman, but it's clear they plan on doing something with him. Shawn Spears is prominently featured. This is like a middle finger to Tony, and I think HHH did it intentionally. Bryan made sure to not mention that viewership was higher on AEW and that the .24 rating doesn't mean more people viewed NXT. But since it's a higher number than AEW, "NXT beats AEW" is the subject they go with to make people sit here and watch them slam AEW when the product has been Much better than anything WWE has been doing. So it's visible that another publication is anti aew. And the proof is easily seen with how much they boost up every small thing WWE does on their Twitter/UA-cam/etc. it's a popular subject and these analyst are engagement farming the 100 million "online" WWE fans that somehow don't add up to 1 million viewers of NXT. The numbers are inflated and people need to be talking about those numbers. 😂. 100 million subs on UA-cam. Less than 2 million views on TV.

They’re for a niche group of people who care about the wrestling matches/fights regardless of what promotion they’re happening at. AEW is a good thing to have around because I think that’s what got WWE back on track because competition pushes both sides to be better. AEW needs a good writer to come in and create stories that people will care and want to tune in every week to see for months at a time. Otherwise it’s just going to be the diehard group of fans who only care about seeing good matches. That’s great for the fans who enjoy that but it’s hard to pull in new viewers that are gona consistently come back to watch the next week

@@robertcrist5747lol which was proven to be a massive lie they aired the all-in footage thinking that WWE was going to fire punk but nope that completely backfired in a hilarious way plus punk is in two big feuds one with drew McIntyre that's been building since the Men's royal rumble match and another with seth that's been building since punk returned at survivor series man aew has gotten very boring ever since then at this point I've given up on AEW i only watch dynamite reviews since I enjoy that more.

Okada just like Mercedes Mone, just aren’t interesting nor do they have good promo skills. With those already against them, having to try and make Tony Kahn storyline and booking
Look decent is a no win situation! The only storyline that has ever been good was MJF and Adam Cole as well as Christian vs Adam Copeland!

The AEW problem can be solved easily: Let someone else book the show!
Tony Khan will reject that suggestion and gonna keeps playing the "dream match" exhibition every week with zero storyline inside it
Now imagine Fulham or Jags sacks Marco Silva or Doug Pederson, and let Tony Khan runs both teams as their "leader", this exact problems are happening in AEW for years....
Just let people who competent in booking storyline as the headbooker

I’d get the idea of Raw or SmackDown beating AEW because of storylines and the like, but NXT has to be the weakest weekly show in that regard amongst the bunch for me.
I think it’s a really simple thing to look at these numbers and say “well WWE does storylines and AEW doesn’t” but that’s simply not true. Right now AEW has a great women’s feud for the first time in ages, maybe ever. They have a champ everyone has been clamoring to see get a strong push, they have a strong secondary feud brewing with MJF and Ospreay, and that’s not even naming everything they have going on that’s been good.
I think the bigger issue is AEW had split the audience with the Punk stuff and followed that up with one of their weaker half years in history so a lot of people just never went back.
It’s a lot easier to get away with promoting big matches as one offs every week when you have momentum and the other side is just going through the same bland motions. But when the other product is hot it doesn’t matter how good your week to week is (because I still find Dynamite to be the best weekly show out there even if Im much more into Raw and SmackDown than I ever used to be)
