Horses were the first original transportation on roads, so its strange when people say they shouldnt be allowed on the road lol.
I would kill my engine and coast if its safe. Its not always safe to stop if your on a 60mph road.

Yes only stop when it’s safe to do so. Speaking with a lot from the horsey community asked me to say don’t kill the engine, clutch in instead. A little burble from the engine let’s the horse know you’re there; no engine noise and you can sneak up on the horse and startle it.

I always give more vulnerable users plenty of room on the road, no matter what my vehicle, which is in part due to all the years cycling and seeing how selfish some motorists could and still can be. this extends to horses when on my motorbike, when i take it slow and wide, but last summer on a narrow lane i noticed 2 riders side by side on a long straight road and i/we saw each other in plenty of time, so i slowed right down, however these 2 karens didn't make any effort to go into single file, they took most of the road just chatting away, so when i got there i had virtually no room, and was almost at a 'clutch in' standstill almost in the gutter anyway, but they started shouting at me, presumably expecting me to stop, but didn't help themselves at all. thankfully these women are in the minority and i find most others always give me a wave, so i don't know what was going on here.
