Jeff was very suave and personable. He came across as having lots of confidence and always looked super comfortable on camera. If he was ever nervous, it certainly never showed. He honestly deserved a lot more TV time than what he got.
MacGregor is an interesting cat. I remember seeing him host the Dating Game, and some knock off after DG was cancelled. I thought he was outstanding, and highly entertaining, which is ironic, as that's the type of host I'm not interested in watching today. MacGregor was quick-witted and came off like a seasoned veteran. It wasn't until many years later I learned he had a famous father. I remember seeing him on Letterman many years ago, promoting his book "Sunday Money," with no reference or suggestion he had once hosted a couple of dating shows or worked in broadcasting. And there was no mention of his famous father. I would have thought he'd have a long career in broadcasting, based upon what I saw of him more than 30 years ago, and yet he chose an entirely different path. Oh yeah, he had a bit part in Spaceballs. Dude is an interesting cat. And it was interesting to see the pilot for his mildly entertaining Newlywed Game variant.
Jeff MacGregor was a great emcee. So personable and quick. Don’t know why he didn’t pursue more television work. Chip off the ol’ block. His father is the equally talented late comedy actor McLean Stevenson.
Basically, the same game play as "The Newlywed Game", but with the couples and children playing together. The deal is the couple as a team has to guess what their children as a team know and vice-versa.
Wink, I want you to know that I am so excited about checking out "The Family Game" hosted by Jeff MacGregor on my birthday. This will be interesting to watch!
This wasn’t bad at all. They fixed some things from Barker’s version. Two kids at a time was smart and having Jeff sit with them helped loosen them up. He was great with some nice asides, and he wasn’t over-the-top sarcastic as on The Dating Game.
Thanks for sharing this, Wink. I always look forward to rare pieces of media like this. 💙 This was one of two pilots Chuck Barris tried to sell for ABC; the other being Bamboozle (while I haven’t see it, I’ve heard it was a ripoff of To Tell the Truth). My thoughts on this pilot… Eesh. Jeff MacGregor really tries, but he seemed a bit robotic. I’m not a big fan of the set, nor the bickering. On The Newlywed Game, the little arguments seemed more light-hearted, but here it seems mean-spirited. Kind of relieved this didn’t sell.
Yes. When Bob Barker emceed the original "Family Game" in 1967, he and creator Chuck Barris got into creative differences during production. The series lasted less than one season on ABC (1967-68). Barker, who was also hosting "Truth or Consequences", never again hosted a game for Barris.
This 1986 Family Game Pilot was just fabulous!!

This game show is part "The Newlywed Game" and part "I'm Telling". Jeff MacGregor is good host, definitely underrated.
I personally think that of all the kids on there, the audience probably loved Dubie the most because he's comically honest and animated; in your face.
This was a cute game. Jeff kinda reminds me of Chuck Woolery.
Looks like it might've been a reboot of a rarely known Chuck Barris series hosted by Bob Barker.
Jeff was da bomb on The All-Nee Dating Game.
Laughed all the way through this one!
This is one funny show. Just a game Dobie.

I do see a lot of his father's sarcasm in him.

Great pilot. Jeff McGregor is funny too.
Believe it or not, this is a reboot of the classic b&w version hosted by Bob Barker. And just as good. Wink, you’ve done it again?

Ok.

Thanks for saving me a trip to UCLA, Wink. Before, the only place I saw this pilot was in GSN's "As Seen On".

I read where MacGregor did another pilot for Barris titled Comedy Courtroom.
@@ricknibert6417There was a pilot called that but MacGregor wasn’t involved. Barris himself was the judge.
The Kirkby family, the father looks and sounds like an older Dennis Weaver. And the host of the show definitely did not look happy doing the show.
didnt this pilot got pass? and if it did then is this Family Secret?
I definitely like your version, 2nd Honeymoon, better than this.
Hello John Friday is my 42nd birthday
Was Patricia on the Dating Game when he hosted? Is that where she met their dad?
Don't think so-- when the Dating Game reboot started in '86 (when this pilot was shot), Elaine Joyce hosted. Jeff didn't take over until a year later.
I heard that Bob Barker and Chuck Barris don't get along.

Obviously a "Newlywed Game" spinoff, but with a cheesier theme song.
It did fairly well in Italy ua-cam.com/video/CQwRkBMAQPk/v-deo.htmlsi=5jESeYTkY6XmYI5y&t=56
