I am wanting to become a Police Officer and that is what I want to be which is to Be yourself. Never criticize anyone. Help them to be a better person. You should always be open minded about learning new things & better ways. Peace be with you my friends.
I would add, study the law. I left the police academy in second year, back where I lived it was three years, and if you wanted to get promoted you eventually had to graduate as a lawyer. At the police academy we study constitutional law, criminal law, civil law, we knew where in the penal code were most of the things we would have to cite were, ordinances, etc. I see so many cases of police officer in the US that write reports or even tickets citing codes that do not exist, arresting people for crimes only to learn it was not a crime. You already know you have to learn tactics, de-escalation, how to deal with people, and all that; but also, never stop reading the law; learn it; you don't have to memorize it, you can google it or whatever, but have in your memory that something out there backs up your actions. Stay safe.
I watched this video when it first came out. 3 years later here I am watching it as I prepare to head off to the Ontario Police College in January…great advice and definitely something I will take with me as I start this new journey. Thanks
I'm 14 now and my biggest dream is to become a police officer one day. I am always worried that I won't be enough. But this video made me realize that I don't have to be worried beacuse I can just do what I can and if that's not enough nobody can change it.
Bro, if you’re worried that you won’t be enough, you’ll be enough. Just make sure you don’t go too hard to try to be some badass police officer or have power over people. Act like a citizen would want you to act
The best things you can do are volunteer your time somewhere, stay/get fit, go for a ride along if your local agency lets you. And be genuine. I guess a lot of places want degree's these days, so that's helps too. But generally just live your life. Then most important thing to bring into policing is life experience. You'll get there!
1:20 'Be who you are" this makes 100% sense... & no one needs to explain this to you guys., you know we are always learning from you too this is the best part Also keeping some high grade pens on ones label probably helps :D :)
The biggest lesson I ever learned from police is the importance of mutual self respect at all times it is so important it is the core the momentum of freedom
There really needs to be more guys like you, a Canadian representation similar to Officer401. You should ask 30 other cops to make channels like this and see if there is a baby face or an eligible bachelor who can match up to him... 😏

Thank you for your videos officers. I am 27 years old and currently have been involved in real estate for 4 years. I have always played football and team sports and have a strong protective sense. *Ending qualified immunity for law enforcement will cause police to do their job better and not take the decisions they make about evidence and arrests as lightly as many of them do now because they won't have that safety net (qualified immunity) to protect them if they're wrong about a person. There will be less innocent people going to prison if/when qualified immunity is ended.*
Judges releasing repeat offenders has done way more harm than any police officer has done. In 2021, 11 unarmed blacks were shot & killed by police. You are brainwashed and I hope you find the light.
I applied for town we live in i got call from cheif but was on the lawn mower called bavk 20 minutes later and went to voicemail so i left a message and they emailed me so i emailed back waiting on call and hopefully start my training
I call BS. Part of our problem with policing is that cops act out who they think they are no matter how wrong and unacceptable that may be, but now they’re protected and can get away with it. Don’t be who are; be who you need to be, a professional serving the public following the rules and enforcing the law using good thinking and common sense.
This is excellent advice for anyone whether you are a rookie or in any field of life and it’s good advice for kids too. Don’t try to impress anyone. You see people do this all the time when they are on their first date. Be honest and except all your flaws and except who you are. There is nothing worse than a deceiver and people who pretend to be someone they are not. Ok so you were honest with your new date and she doesn’t want a second date it’s over, so what. You have to understand in life that most people won’t understand you or like you some may even hate you. Don’t bother with it. That’s life and life is meant to be hard. The best fiend you can have is you, the best times you can have is with you. There are so many fakes out there you only have to look at the women and men on social media .It’s quiet scary to see them act and look this way. 😊
Enforcement is the last resort, not your purpose for being in uniform. You are a PEACE OFFICER first, a POLICE OFFICER second! If you hate your job and cannot deal with it's issues, get assistance immediately. Your attitude is everything! Do not lose your faith in humanity, as you will be on the front lines of societies best, and unfortunately, it's worst. STAY SAFE........
ALL evidence available to me shows that I COULD NOT be myself joining any police-forces in Canada - Hence, I have registered an "oversight" legal-entity for when I am in need of interacting with police-officers! In my opinion, this has successfully created an increased incentive for these officers to accept me at the levels of transparency and accountability for which I have chosen to live my own life! Martin Pariseau (THE Captain of Accountability) PS Good advice about suggesting that the "newbies" remain life-long-learners - but their superiors must ALSO role-model this!
Great advice. .always take positive tips/info from ppl & add it to ur personality..By the way ssme applies to dating..Be yourself..but dont be a jerk..😊
I live in the Ontario area, around 3hrs out from Toronto and I'm looking for a career in law enforcement, what would be your advice for choosing between O.P.P and Toronto Police
Just keep your nose clean, okay? Never lose sight of that dream. Keep it in the back of your mind anytime somebody tries to pressure you into doing something illegal.
a few things to add to this video, now as an officer if you dont make enough stops or write enough tickets you will most likely get a poor score for your evaluation which means a loss of a raise and a good chance of getting transferred to a graveyard shift which in many cases could be a desk assignment.
Advice don’t be a blind fool and follow others. It’s not right to arrest a 80 year old woman for feeding cats. And don’t be afraid to arrest or turn in bad cops. And finally you swore an oath to the constitution!!!!!

The advice should be that people DO NOT need to respect you to not go to jail. Police need to stop thinking they're the authority and realize that they're literally just public workers that are employed by the people to maintain the laws, not to be our bosses and demand respect.

The democrats would have a field day with this and so would the public. Qualified immunity needs to stay in place.
