Max,I have made 4 Flags...2 of them i did with the shell casings in the stars..I have to say out of all the Videos out there on flags and i have viewed them all..I keep coming back to your video's buddy....I like the way you explain what your doing and how to do it...I have a cpl of pallets and to be honest it nvr crossed my mind to use the wood ....I am going to look over what i have to see if they are usable..Glad your throwing more & more flag content out there...Keep brainstorming bud because i am looking forward to what you will come up with next..

I've been watching a lot of flag making videos lately, but yours are the best. The engraved stars, time consuming I'm sure, definitely puts your method above the rest. The utility blade "masking" is a great idea too.

I've watched a lot of videos of people dremel carving stars. You have the best skills I've seen. Your stars look far better than everybody else that uses the dremel. Massive respect!

Just a quick thought on your hangers. You should try and center them at 16", since that's the normal spacing of wall studs. I think I'll try making some of these this Fall.

Looks great. I would try placing the stencil back over your stars and then hit them with spray paint or a roller/sponge brush that isn't saturated with stain if you want them a little whiter.

Minwax doesn't show a scarlet color in their water based stain. Are you correct on the color?
For some reason i did get a Scarlett from HD. I’m just amazed at how your stars come out some crisp.
What is the paper under your hand for? Is it so you don’t get stain on your hand? Now I’m going to need to get white stain too.
Oh that's awesome! It probably varies by location but thats good to hear that some have it. Haha the more you do it the easier and better theyll get! Yea and incase im sweaty i dont mess up the stain. Yea the white really adds a nice touch!!

how thick did you make the backer boards, they appear to be thicker than the flag strip
For this one they are 1 inch thick
What stain/paint did you use for the red wight and blue?
The red is minwax water based stain tinted in scarlet from Lowes, the blue is varathane water based stain tinted in navy blue from home depot and white is the same thing tinted in white
Do you ever have an uneven end that has to be trimmed, cleaned up to make the flag look finished?
I have had an uneven end before, usually i will do my best to sand it down and that will help to make it go away, trimming it is also an option though!
What are the dimensions of that flag max?
One small thing. When you flip the boards over to add the braces, you only show the part where you twist the boards over to their backside and not the part where you also turn them and to end.
I know have a flag waving to the left 😢.
Flag looks great, I do think it's time to make yourself a proper work table though. You are always squatting on the ground to do your cuts, that part makes my knees hurt just watching.

I live right next door to a sign business and they leave pallet wood whenever they get done delivering and installing the signs so I told my “neighbor” that when they leave out the wood bring some pieces to the house so I can do some projects that people ordered!!!

Can you provide the stain formulas you used for the red, white and blue?
Red - from Lowes, Minwax Water based wood stain, tinted in Scarlet
Blue - from Home Depot, varathane water based wood stain, tinted in Navy Blue (lowes has True Blue that is similar)
White - frome Home Depot, Varathane water based wood stain, tinted in white
Max F Hi Max! Great looking flags! I’ve been to Lowe’s twice trying to get stain tinted in Scarlet and True Blue and the guy has looked and looked in the computer system and says he can’t find either color after scanning the can even though I told him people all over the country are using those two colors from Lowe’s. You’re using the Minwax clear tint base right?
Thank you so much Chris! Hmm thats weird, i havent heard the colors being called any other names or anything like that. And that is correct it is Minwax water based wood stain clear tint base and it says tints to a wide variety of beautiful colors. Did you by chance notice a little paper thing on the isle showing all of the colors it can tint to? I remember that they had one of those at home depot and im pretty sure lowes also had them

The dimensions are 37” x 19.5”. You definitely could! 😄 i did do one that was like 42” but the only problem with it is that there isnt a stencil that big so i had to print out stars to carve on but it did turn out pretty awesome!

The dimensions of the flag are 37" by 19.5" and the dimensions of the union are 14.75" by 10.5". You should they are a really awesome project to do! Let me know if you have anymore questions

Do you know what height a 25" flag should be
About 13 1/8". If you search "American flag size and proportions calculator" on google theres a website that will give you the dimensions of the flag and union, hope this helps!

For serious framing nailing, I have a Porter Cable®, but for stuff like this just a Harbor Freight®
