Did anyone else notice that she messed up at 1:44? She said, "Slip as if to knit, slip as if to pearl," when she should have said the opposite. "Slip as if to pearl, slip as if to knit." Glad I caught this mistake. I was getting confused.
Yes, I had to keep watching and watching. So which one is it, she knit when she pearl. I guess I'll just do the slip knit then the slip pearl, cause that's what branded in my head now.
She also said that she was knitting in the front when she was knitting in the back until she reached the end of the row and said knit in the back... Oh well, you get the gist if you follow her actions more closely and not her words.
Oh yeah!!!! finally have the pattern down. Took a while but was able to get the hang of it. Like she said no tv and try not to have someone trying to talk to you about football. lol
My question is this: Is there a "best yarn" to use for this stitch because it's pretty difficult. This is a hard stitch. I can't imagine making a whole something (scarf or otherwise) from this stitch. But I see all the perfect items made with this stitch on Pinterest and wondering if people are doing this on knitting machines because they're flawless.
Thank you for such an easy-to-follow video. I am wanting to make a neck warmer for a friend, in the herringbone pattern, but I didn't know how to do it. Now that I've watched your video, I can do it. I read some of the comments & was surprised to read that there was an error in the video, at about 1:44. I went back to make sure I had the correct instructions, & I do. After telling us what to do, at the start of the row, you continued through the row; but at 1:44 what you were doing did not match what you were saying. You started saying Slip as if to Knit, Slip as if to Purl. However, what you were actually doing was the opposite. You were doing Slip as if to Purl, Slip as if to Knit. Some people are confused. Because you explained it well, at the beginning of the row, I am able to see that I can follow what you are DOING, as opposed to what you are SAYING, for the rest of the row. I can certainly understand how one can mix the 2 up, in such a complex stitch. You are so right - this is NOT a TV knitting pattern, lol. Thank you, again, & I look forward to watching other videos. :)
OMG This is the most arduous possible way to do it ! For the knit side, just knit 2 tog through the back, leaving one on the needle all the way across, (knit the last stitch on its own , through the back, like ahe shows you). The purl row is fine.
wow! this kind of knitting look so easy to do and so amazing! i'm willing to try it right away! i wanted to knit vertically and i have fallen on how to pearl and the instruction got me knitting in the reverse way where i am not very comfortable on how to knit... i got trouble at first for at least 10 or 30 sec and then i got it... went to find something else instruction for do it foward and instead, i got another style to do pearl and maybe its the most difficult way... but look more easier to me to do! and then i fall on you... WOW! Just simply amazing! it was about time for me to raise up the level of difficulty for knitting. ☺
Thank you so much!!! This was fantastic! Can't wait to try this. Am going to do a dishcloth with a seed stitch edge I think. :) Should be entertaining!
Does anyone have any idea of how to seam or graft the ends of herringbone together> I wanted to knit a flat piece, but now want to have a circle scarf...
I use the Chinese waitress C.O. If your yarn knits up stockinette on a 4mm, then try a 6 for the cast on and a 5.5 for the herringbine. Everyone knits with a different tension, so experiment .
I'm primarily a crocheter but I have a pattern calling for this knit stitch in a triangle shape 0_0 wish me luck haha I have no idea how to do that but I'm going to give it my all
Arnas Treimakas i know You posted this a long time ago, but, from what i understand, one can only add/decrease on the front? or would it be the same mechanics for the back?
She said "slip as if to knit, slip as if to pearl" when she was supposed to say "slip as if to pearl, slip as if to knit". You really confused me lady!!
Thank you so much for yr clear explaining, but i think you made an error. From where you say “from then on out... you say “slip as if to knit, slip as if to purl” but your action is slip as if to purl, slip as if to knit. Because I couldn’t figure it out by just listening and not watching, until I followed, listening and watching closely then i saw the error. Just checking😊
Two fast for a little beginner like me. After the first two rows if knit 1 purl 1, how did the two stitches get on the right hand needle?????? A slower break down will really be appreciated.
ffs always show front & back. what a torturous awful way to do it, would turn anyone off this stitch, there is much better very simple versions on youtube. front = back k2 drop 1 , k last back = p2 drop 1 , p last nice voice though.
she says it wrong at one point. the knit row repeat is "slip as if to purl, slip as if to knit." but, at one point she says it backwards. ugh! for a high-quality video designed to be an ad farm, the least you can do is double check.
Engineering aircraft & helicopters today uses much composite materials. They are like those graphite tennis rackets. Its a fabric wetted with a liquid plastic then baked a short time to dry and or make it solid. Different fabrics include herringbone weaves. It could also be a very large cover for a stadium or the cables of a bridge. There are many inventions yet to be designed. You might already have a head start.

Riversflowin replay the video if needed...its not going to disappear after watching it once.. oh and you can rewind if u didn't catch something the first time ;p
THANK YOU!! This be my first time trying this to make a scarf for my teacher :)! I will use this video! You are awesome ❤

yes i noticed too. super confused

Same I noticed
SAME I LOVE U FOR COMMENTING THAT FOR ME!!

Ahhhh! I totally didn't realize this was your tutorial! I just happened to be looking for the herringbone stitch and you popped up! So excited!
Great, clear instructions. I'm going to have to try this. I might need hard liquor afterward.
LOL. Ithink I'll need some, too!!!
Please drink responsibly
That is so hilarious!😂❤️
Great video. Thank you so much for your clear directions. I practiced this stitch on some scrap yarn and it looks great.
Oh yeah!!!! finally have the pattern down. Took a while but was able to get the hang of it. Like she said no tv and try not to have someone trying to talk to you about football. lol
The07Mbd when u first tried this was ur cast on row tight? I guess its the way I casted on but my cast on row was pretty tight...
This video was soo helpful. She really slowed it down.

Thought the same thing..

Thanks for your clear instructions. Will definitely try to do. Thanks again 😊
How many stitches should you cast on , odd number or even number ? A beautifully explained knitting pattern . Thank you.
Wonderful video, so clear and precise.
Thank you. Been looking how to learn new stitches and yours is the most clear. I look forward to learning with you. Thanks so much.
Loved it
I'm a young knitter and it is so fun
😎😎😎
How many stitches to cast on? How do you bind off?
I love how thick and cozy this stitch is! Any suggestions for an ideal project it could be used in?
Making a tote bag?
Blanket?
Very clear, easy to follow instructions.
PS: My mum made me comment that
Took me awhile, but well worth it. Could you tell me how to do your stitch technique in the round. Thank you!
Very useful and nice stitch ❤❤
Great tutorial! Very helpful! I'm definitely going to try this now.
A few seconds later... I GIVE UP!
Do you know if the herringbone stitch can be converted to loom knitting?
Thank you so much!!! This was fantastic! Can't wait to try this. Am going to do a dishcloth with a seed stitch edge I think. :) Should be entertaining!
Does anyone have any idea of how to seam or graft the ends of herringbone together> I wanted to knit a flat piece, but now want to have a circle scarf...
did you do basic long tail cast on?
My Ralph Lauren sweater is made like this except it's also ribbed
I'm gonna try a blanket with this, it looks pretty
What kind of yarn are you using in this video?
What type of cast on would be best for this stitch?
I use the Chinese waitress C.O. If your yarn knits up stockinette on a 4mm, then try a 6 for the cast on and a 5.5 for the herringbine. Everyone knits with a different tension, so experiment .
To be clear, we can cast on any number of stitches right?
I'm primarily a crocheter but I have a pattern calling for this knit stitch in a triangle shape 0_0 wish me luck haha I have no idea how to do that but I'm going to give it my all
how did it go? were You able to bring it off? Do tell, or even better, show!
Yes, it was a success! :D

I'm not sure if the photo shows up or not but it is on my portfolio if you look up @SitShakeYarnOver on Instagram or Facebook
Can this stitch be done in the round??
Can I here that on danish i am not so vertikal good to english
How many cast on plse.
please tell me which number you used needles and wool
Is it possible to increase/decrease when knitting herringbone stitch?
I'm trying to figure out the same thing :( any luck ?
None, I can't find the info anywhere :(
Increase: Slip 2, knit 1 and dont drop off any
Decrease: Slip 2, knit 1 and drop off 2
Hope this helps! I havent tried it.
Arnas Treimakas i know You posted this a long time ago, but, from what i understand, one can only add/decrease on the front? or would it be the same mechanics for the back?
The back should work the same way, I think. Inform me if it's not working!
This looks amazing!
Can anyone suggest the best way to cast-off the herringbone stitch? thank you!
I use chinese waitress
I love the yarns you use and how they change size within the one skein - what kind is it/where can i get it for a good price?
😮😮😮😮
Mind blown!!!
Great video! Very easy to understand. Thank you so much!!
Hi, will this produce a reversible scarf (ie herringbone on both front & back) or will the back be different/ugly?
Thanks!
The back is very different but interesting enough to be used in the right place...vertically on cuffs or edges for example.
Wow! Thank you! This looks easy and handy!
what is the count? Like a 5+1? a 4?
I love your needle..which s that?
at 1:43
She said "slip as if to knit, slip as if to pearl" when she was supposed to say "slip as if to pearl, slip as if to knit". You really confused me lady!!
Luna Root She did, at around 1:43 lol
how many stitches do you have two cast on? just an even number?
It doesn't matter how many because each stitch will still be worked. Cast on as many as you like!
this pattern looks good in thin or thick yarn please do reply
I tried it in thin yarn and it turned out fine, but i haven't tried with thick yarn
thin, medium and thick. Start with what you are comfortable first. ☺
How do I slow down your demonstration
It depends if you are using a computer or on mobile. If mobile, you tap the dot dot dots, then playback speed, then you can pick from .75,. 5
Can't you also k2tog then slip the first stitch off?
yes, u can and it will still be the same.
Yes, shes just messing with peoples heads by making this cruel tutorial :D
Podrías ponerle subtítulos en español?
Thank you!
My body is tense just watching this
How would you increase one stitch on the end of the work?
i think You have to add two, most likely at either end, otherwise the pattern might get disrupted.
wonderful
I noticed that the herring stitch is only apparent on one side with this technique.
Thank you!!
Thank you so much for yr clear explaining, but i think you made an error. From where you say “from then on out... you say “slip as if to knit, slip as if to purl” but your action is slip as if to purl, slip as if to knit. Thank you for clarifying!! I thought I was going crazy. I noticed it too but wasn't sure if it was a mistake or not.
How many stitches do you cast on?
This needs to have a cast on row divisible by two. So as long as you have an even number of stitches, you'll have enough (:
Thank you!
Thanks. I was wondering this myself. :)
Can we make sweater with it? How to increase and decrease?
Starting row: 1:03
Yes I noticed also
love it, thanks!!
THANX HON 🤍🤍🤍🤍👍👍👍
Shout out to Acura!!!!!!!!! 📋🚂🐰🎬🚦💺🚦🚦🐈🐰↙⤵⤵⏩⤵
Love it

It's like tunisian crochet.

front = back k2 drop 1 , k last

nice voice though.
You're great
Jeg vil ønske den var på dansk, jeg er ikke god til engelsk 😢

Would had been a really great video but she kept slipping up her words and I got really confused

Oh wow... Did the world end? Everyone else figured it out...
Lorna Watt not everyones perfect chill out...
the needle is thicc
I can't even do the begining
Too complicated!
Yes, and its not the normal way either! Just knit 2 together through the back, knitting the last stitch as she describes. The pirl row is ok too.
So this tutorial does not work if you’ve started with a slip knot cast on LOL
there's an easier way of doing herringbone, why are you teaching a needlessly harder version?
There is easier way to do this pattern
Very confusing! Aghhh
nooooooooooo!
Spends too much time talking in the beginning like she is teaching children and then messes up the instructions.
Yeah. This cannot be done with Eastern European knitting. :-( Anyway, moving on. No Herringbone stitch for me.
