There's a lot of hypersensitive males being trigger by a Native man talking about his culture. So he enjoys his culture, big deal. It's no reason to go postal.
In my daughters grade 3 class they’re learning all about the Anishinaabie!
Cool.
An important information resource.
Very interesting concept

Chinese isn’t a language!
bevilhive , am sure he meant Mandarin.
bevilhive "Chinese isn’t a language!"
Well, yes and no. Linguistically it may be more of a language family but culturally Chinese tend to think of all their languages as Chinese even if they can't understand one another. And there is a traditional Chinese even if Chinese is the English name for it.
Amazing he’s complaining about his language not being recognized when he thinks Chinese is a language. The irony!
bevilhive There are different dialects in China. Just like there are in India, and other countries.
bevilhive Many people still think Chinese is a language. So?
Dwayne Wladyka mandarin and Cantonese are very very different. They're not simply dialects but nice try
Considering 14.1% of the world speaks Mandarin (number 1 most spoken language in the world) and only 5.5% of the world speaks English (3rd most spoken language). You do sound like a douche calling it "Chinese".
I appreciate the sounds of different languages, but it seems that this artist should appreciate his own lack of awareness more.
Not only is Chinese an umbrella term for a group of languages that aren't even always mutually intelligible. But languages like Thai and Japanese, that are often confused and conflated with Chinese, are from different language families altogether. When I hear an native Canadian speak I can generally recognize it as such. But to expect me to recognize his specific language when he is so casual with his own language references strikes me a tad hypocritical and taints his message.
we should change Canada's official language to 'Broken' French and English.
everywhere in Canada now it is like getting the service guy from India on the phone.
ello ow may i elp ou
Miigwech! Wish I could see and hear it. I agree with the artist, languages originating from China are more easily recognizable to me. How horrible that it was once illegal to speak your own language!
Nick Lang really you can tell the difference between mandirin cantonese japanese korean and polinesian?
Jared Traxel I am no expert but I definitely would not make this argument about not knowing those languages as they are more widely spoken. Remember this video is about a people who had to fight to get their language recognized. It is about the history of Canada. I question the authenticity of your comment when no one has mentioned the history of the countries those languages originate from. Or do you plan on telling us a story of history?
Agreed, it depends where you grew up in Canada. In Northern Ontario as in much of the north, Native people are everywhere and I got many opportunities to hear the language. The Nationalist approach to culture is disastrous to most people so we get the destruction of Native culture and Scots Gaelic, which use to be widely spoken in Canada.
If I had time to waste.
This guy is a good example of whats wrong with the world.
I don't think we should be forced to see French signs and French on products since 90% of Canada is English speaking. We don't need any more.
In the States, there are often French and English instructions on things, even though there isn't a high French-speaking population here. You'd think we have more bilingual instructions in English and Spanish.
emmeaki yea sure French signs along the Quebec border for a bit. English is the world language. Its obvious what is...
...the right solution. Main language English, and once in high school a student can choose a second language of any origin. Cantonese, Russian, Spanish, German, Italian, you name it. But to force an entire Nation to speak just French is more than a little ridiculous I think.
Language isn't purely utilitarian. It is cultural, and to say otherwise is something only someone who only speaks English can say.
Identity politics at it's best. thanks trudeau. now give these people clean water, actual houses and proper education. if you don't understand Chinese isn't a language cries out to be taught.
KAT Erwhall That has nothing to do with Trudeau.
how so? the government and taxpayer fund the reserves and they are in dire need of essential services such as water treatment. as for the identity politics part why don't you see it?
KAT Erwhall To have drinkable water in the far north you need water filtration systems, When installed by the Fed's the local NATIVES do NOT maintain the water systems , nor the government supplied Houses, give them schools they burn them down, they are their own worst enemy!
We recognize elietist federalfunded snobs . the snob in the office is so in touch with things.
No thank you. We are an Anglo-French society, not a native american society.
MattBlueshift We have the First Nations. That has to be accepted, whether people like it or not.
Yes of course, but we shouldn't force our entire CULTURE to comply to a small fraction of the population.
Ignorant. Thats all i have to say.
Dan Kortebein If I believe we shouldn’t have their culture shoved down our throats, I also probably believe we shouldn’t shove our culture down their throats. I would’ve thought I made that clear, apparently not.
MattBlueshift well its already been shoved down our throats. We dont expect you to learn aboriginal ways, we want the language to be promoted and more recognized.
