This reminds me of an old WatchMojo video on broken game characters (or something like that, been years since I've seen the video). They included some actual busted stuff across different games, but they included Eelektross for some reason. 🤣 I think this was back when ORAS was fresh off the press, so Mega Ray was literally right there.
The problem I have with Eelektross is that its base stats are min-maxed to be bad: Cut some Speed and put them into HP, decent Trick Room member Cut one of the offense stat in half and put them into Speed or other defensive stats would give it more room for its niche
four times damage on Zacian-Crowned would've been nice in Gen 8, but now it would be kinda useless considering Salazzle having good fire type moves regardless.
I think Eelektross shouldn’t necessarily get a move like recover because its existence is based on leeching off of healthy things to survive. It should get as many draining moves as possible including Leech Life, Leech Seed, Draining Kiss, and most of all, Parabolic charge. If celesteela can learn leech seed idk why this thing can’t. Looking at team Plasma leader’s team Eelektross has the least bulk besides Bisharp on the special side, and it doesn’t have the speed to make up for it.
Eelektross is in such a weird spot as a mixed attacker it kind of reminds me of other bad mixed attacks like Decidueye in which its best STAB options come from its weaker offensive stat (for the Eel, Thunderbolt is almost always more desireable to click than Thunder Punch and even Supercell Slam). But the other part about Eelektross is how it works defensively. Having no weaknesses sounds amazing on paper but the electric typing has shit for resistances too - only resisting itself, Flying and Steel plus the Ground immunity from Levitate. Compare it to Rotom-Wash: Rotom has _marginally_ less effective bulk (we're talking about a 1% difference) and it even has one weakness as opposed to zero, but it also has important resistances to Water, Fire and Ice on top of the requisite resistances to Flying and Steel. Of course that's ignoring Rotom-W's other great attributes like its superior speed, Will-O-Wisp, Pain Split and Defog in previous gens but I think the point still stands that mono-Electric is just kind of a bad defensive type even if you do eliminate its only weakness to Ground.
I think there should be a level-balanced regular format on Showdown. Initialize it with regular ranks as template (say, PU at level 100 and then 3 levels down for every tier up), and then readjust with usage stats every week.
