    Video transcript:
Working out with natural hair can seem daunting. The idea of working out used to bore and terrify me, let alone taking care of my natural hair post workouts. It wasn't long ago when I used to think that regularly exercising and maintaining long and healthy type 4c natural hair was impossible. However, as I grew in love with weight lifting as a form of meditation with the added benefits of physical health, strength, confidence and overall longevity, I learned/I forced myself to learn ways I can hit the gym 6 days a week whilst keeping my hair regimen healthy, balanced, and realistic.
In this video I'm going to share with you what I specifically do to care for my hair as it goes through weeks worth of sweat sessions. I will also be trialing a new line of products from Eban Living. Eban Living has created products that I have yet to see in the line of natural hair products: a product designed to help care for natural hair that is put through physically active lifestyles.
The focus of my regimen is going to be on my biggest challenges: dryness, single strand knots, and tangles.
We're going to start with my wash day routine after weeks of working out and low maintenance hairstyles.
For this particular wash day, I'll be trying Eban Living's Quick Clean Duo set starting with their co-wash. I was happy to see that this cowash did exactly as promised, it cleansed my scalp which was full of product and oils without foaming up or stripping my hair. I focused the product on my roots whilst messaging to release buildup as usual and let the product gently cleanse the rest of my strands as I rinsed it off.
As you can see my hair still has it's moisture and elasticity.
I then deep conditioned with my usual Aussie Moist deep conditioner.
This is a step you can skip if you're doing a quick co-wash and your hair isn't as dry and tangled as mine.
I definitely needed to detangle and that's impossible without a deep conditioner.
After rinsing, I went in with the second component of Eban Living's Quick Clean Duo set, their Daily Moisurizer and Styling Cream. Note that this is a very light weight, water based moisorizer since it's meant for daily use. That means it won't build up but will still moisturize your hair. SInce I had a trial package, I didn't have much to play with so I focused it on my ends and around my forehead since those strands are the driest due to heavy sweating. My ends felt moisturized but I did need to add a heavier moisturizer like my usual Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner since my low porosity hair responds better to heavier moisturizers after being washed. I can see this product working wonders for when I refresh my braids between washes but my hair did need something heavier post a wash session. It felt a lot like Shea Moisture's Yucca & Plantain Anti-Breakage Strengthening Styling Milk, which is what I normally use to refresh my braids if they're not too dry ( • Re-moisturizing Betwee... ). If your hair is like mine, this product would probably work best as a style refresher after your hair has already been moisturized with something heavier.
After my hair dries in twists, I braid my hair and work out in those braids for a week. I will then remove the braids for a couple of days to let my scalp breathe before re-moisturizing and braiding my hair again for another week. I continue this cycle for as long as my hair feels moisturized and until I have product buildup. This routine has allowed me to provide for my hair's needs but still be able to enjoy everything else in life including working out on a regular basis without worrying about my hair.
To show you the amount of sweat my hair normally goes through, I was able to film one of my most enjoyable workouts a week post this wash day. Enjoy me suffer for the next few minutes.

    Ow my god.
So much effort spent on simple hair wash. Respect.
I'm white, have straight hair, and on top of that I trim it short. No damn upkeep whatsoever. Then I see this video. Mad respect.

Thank you for this! Currently I am sick, but I've been working out at least 5-6 days a week and I sweat so much and I usually am like ugh my hair! I will definitely try this when I am better and get to working out again ❤. Also, great song!

Your hair is so thick and pretty!! How much shedding do you have on shampoo/cleansing day since you don’t cleanse often?
