I liked this ending. He couldn't have chosen her. She was still operating as a 13 yo with fantastical ideas about love, loyalty, and how the world works. She still needed to grow up.

Looking back as an adult I respect this ending. Matty is a good guy, he has respect for himself for not taking Jenna back, he’s loyal to his wife and wants to fulfill the commitment he made to her. He and Jenna will always have that special bond as they were best friends and he liked her too, but he loves his fiancé now and will not throw that away, which is admirable. Jenna didn’t want to miss her chance with him later on.
Edit: on some level it is cheating I suppose, but he stopped it before letting it go any further, and I’m sure his wife would understand and be accepting about it if he tells her.

He only chose Wendy because he was hurt when Lucy lied and said that Jenna replace him with another established photographer "like she always does". He thought Jenna was there to hurt him again. How can you say its the right choice to marry someone who's only a "rebound"? You only marry her because she is there for you while you love someone else? There marriage is not going to last. Their future kids will just suffer. I mean yes Jenna treated Matt badly but that was in the past. The present is that Jenna loves him now and he loves her too, so what will keep you from being with each other? You don't have to bring back the time. You only need the change the present and you only need the future.

The value of her going forward in time was to realize what she was about to lose going forward with her current values. He wouldn't choose her because she wasn't who he would want for a wife then, not with the values she had built her life based on. But she changes from the experience and then chooses what matters and let's go of the empty desires. Also Matt wasn't shallow, he obviously picked a woman he loved and so to dump her over an old crush would show a negative about him.

No mater what, no matter if she was a 13 year old or not, it was still an awful thing to do. But it was completely understandable and she learnt a valuable lesson for her present self. It’s not excusable, but it is understandable

And it's sad because she'll always be second choice but what's more sad is who's to say if this was real life Jenna would be the one to cheat on him instead. So either way you can never win and that's life. Settle and possibly turn into the player or take a leap and possibly get played...

Had a girl I was chasing when I was about 15/16, I was placed in the backup position in her mind, she was single, then started sleeping with a guy in his 30's, I moved on. About a year and a bit later she contacted me saying "I've changed, I'm not that person anymore", I told her to kick rocks.

During this scene he wasn’t married yet. Through the movie it was obvious his finance was ruling the roost he did not want to move. Flipping way she says you can take pictures anywhere like his job was not important. Jenna woke him up but during this scene he decided although he loves & will always love Jenna he chooses the right thing to do. . At the end didn’t Jenna go back to 13 & they ran next door came out grown up & married. How it would have been if she never made that wish. Surprised at some of the comments he was not married.

This scene really touched me, I was with someone for years and we ended breaking up because I didn’t want to get marry cause I wanted to study and get a job before committing to a family, while he wanted to form the family he never had. We started dating eventually, as before (on and off) I thought we are going to come back together and do everything we wanted as we talked and he married someone else. Sometimes I look back and I feel like I let go the love of my life for my dreams, I have it all now, independent woman, a good and stable job and everything but I don’t have him. Sometimes we lost people by fighting for what we thing is right but ended up being the reason of our sadness. I know he’s not happy on his marriage, he rushed things for him and now we are both in a place where we can’t be together ever. Sometimes we have to let go and understand that not everyone has the blessing to make it work with their love ones. The other day I read something that said “the love of your life will never leave, if does, it was not the love of your life”. So I hope one day I can fin the love of my life that will make me understand what the decisions I took were the right ones

I always loved this movie. But I never understood the end of it. Matt had chosen Wendy, but in the end, he ended up with Jenna. I obviously preferred him and Jenna. But , I did not understand the end .
he ended with jenna in the end, cause jenna’s wish to know herself at 30 was finished, when she cameback to reality, she changed her bad decisions, so he never met wendy in his life.

Sometimes Life protects you by NOT giving you what you thought you needed. You already have everything you need. Trust the Universe. Don't torture yourself with all the whatifs and shouldnthaves and shouldhavebeens and whatnots. Love will come at its own time and when it does you will know for sure that it's truly yours. Another thing I forgot to mention and this is my 2 cents actually.
After Matt said that he always loved Jenna,he decided to go outside where the wedding will be taking place. He tells Wendy that he can't marry her because his in love with Jenna,she gets sorta pissed off about it by giving him a slap on the face or else she'd be cool about it. Jenna meanwhile closes her eyes,Matt finds her and tells her that he thought about what she told him and they waited until a few months later to get married and live in the house that was similar to the one Matt built her when she was a kid.
God i tot this was like some unreleased dvd contents...glad i read it twice coz i swear i didnt miss anything watching this MORE THAN 10 TIMES!! ! 😆😂

I will never understand; if he stopped trusting her, why did he believe Lucy when she said Jenna had abandoned their work? Why did he agree to sign the papers to give Lucy full rights over it? Doesn't he know what it means to Jenna and all the effort they put into it? Not only does all the credit go to Lucy, but she gets an even higher promotion too.
I think its because this is Jenna in the past 20 years sth. Matty stopped being friends with Jenna not because of Lucy, but because she made a conscious decision to choose being ‘popular’ and abandon Matt. I think when Lucy told Matt her lies, it brought him back to those time. The “Oh, I guess thats just how Jenna is.” and despite falling in love again with Jenna, Matty knows that they cant be together. So he chooses to walk away - because it always ends with them parting anyway. Must be really devastating for him
Probably because Jenna was just like Lucy for the past 17 years. Like Matt said, they couldn't just turn back time. At the end of the day, he didn't know Jenna anymore.
Also, he signed for a general release so the magazine could use his pictures. It wasn't for Lucy.

I've been in Matt's shoes, even as a woman. It may seem nice to project that Jenna learned her lesson but how about if you were in Wendy's shoes? I feel that Matt did the realistic and honorable thing based on a longstanding commitment and relationship with Wendy.
I wish I could be as nice to former partners as Matt has in this scene when they come back around but I don't give 2nd chances to those who should've valued and respected me the way I did for them the FIRST time. REMEMBER to treat the people you claim to care about with respect and be trustworthy because just like this scene shows, in real life, there are no do overs and unfortunately who someone shows you they are the first time around really tends to stick, short of a life altering experience or devastating loss to them, but then what does that show you about how much it takes for them to learn a lesson at your expense???....☹
@@jamesw.6931 I like the idea of this and I'm glad that you are holding to your commitment but this is just not something Ive seen often in terms of success. I think that the things that split a couple up have to be below a certain threshold of egregious error.
If one or both have character flaws that persist then it's highly unlikely to be a good union even if a couple stays together.

I didn't really get it when I was a kid when this came out, but watching it as an adult, she really wasn't. she saw jenna as a problem in the relationship (which she was, matt cheated with her) so she wasn't going to be nice to her. You wouldn't be nice to a woman that's trying to get at your man

She literally goes back in time chooses his life for him....
I don’t think so. She goes back in time, yes, but she doesn’t choose his life for him. He didn’t choose her here because of who she had become in this timeline. When she goes back in time again, that is just her going back to the original timeline that she was a part of. She didn’t take his choice away because now there was no choice needing to be. They grew up together, and she just used lessons she learned from this to become a different person. At any point in that timeline he could have decided he didn’t want to be with her. But he didn’t. Because he loved her. If anything, her going back to her time was less deceptive because at least she was living out a life and actively making choices for herself. When she went to the future, she was thrust into a life where she didn’t know what her former self had done. Just my take, though.

She is not happy in the future, her boyfriend is an a*shole, when people try to do this in real life... when they try to get back with their old flame because things didn't work out with the other person, it's called "having your cake and eating it too", he was not adequate enough for her, her life was not adequate enough for her so, she chose a different path and people have to face the consequences of their actions, you don't get a "second chance" at life!!
And I understand where you are coming from but just imagine what would be his reaction if he finds out the truth about what she did, about her "second chance" after all, he also is an emotional being!
