    The ring test is made with a screw driver..and when your filling the stands you want to rock them back and forth so the sand is even out..after your done filling then up you to flip it upside down a couple times till you dont hear the sand moving around..then with a screw driver do the ring test..after one month the stands will have to be refill due to the low frequency moving the sand around...after that you should repeat the the test and those suckers should be solid..best advice..buy iso acoustics to decouple off the metal top of the stands and speakers and some iso pucks to decouple the bottom feet of the stands off the floor...trust me it's going to sound beautiful

    Note that certain speakers' cabinets, like Vienna Acoustics Bach (floor-standing tower) speakers, are also to be filled with some filler (do not know how!) to eliminate the cabinet natural resonances. Some people use "lead shot", unaware that lead is poisonous and quite dangerous to be around. On the other hand, natural sand might easily absorb water and damage a speaker wood cabinet etc. Cat Litter, perfectly playground white sand, and silica sand are also recommend. However, Atabites has an approximate density of 2403 KG/m sq. compared to dry sand which has a typical rating of just 1442 KG/m sq. but on the negative side: since Atabites are zinc covered little discs, one should note that zinc is also toxic and especially dangerous for little kids who might unknowingly eat it.

    I've been using either Quikrete or Sakrete dry concrete mix (no water added, of course) from my local Home Depot or Lowes home improvement stores and it works like a charm. That stuff is dense and heavy so my stands are heavy(somewhere between 20-25lbs) and there is no ringing whatsoever.....and it's dirt cheap to boot.

    Not convinced that the stands are that good or the damping is any better than sand which is so easy. My old Atacama stands have a much larger column, are much more stable and completely dead with sand and the sand fills a plastic bag inside (provided by Atacama) so that the kiln dried sand is nicely contained.

    I have to ask the following..1. Why not just fill them to the top...if you have so much filler left over..makes no sense messing about. 2. I wish you had chucked the B and W on the stands before you filled it..recorded them then filled the stands re-recorded them and A/B the results...seems like you had the perfect opportunity if the room is so well acoustically damped to show if it makes a significant difference and lastly...should have used that screwdriver rather than your knuckles...made me wince each time...! On a more serious note please do a speakers on the unit..speakers on stands with no filler and speakers on stands with filler...I would love to hear the difference between the three positions. Cheers

      these are entry level stands, I have been surprised by just how good they are still. in terms of different speakers sounding very good on them.
      Atacama offer more comprehensive stands than this also - I prefer designs with multiple uprights over ones with a single as the top plate is more stable, however these stands have done a really great job for me so far

    I'll bet you have never ever heard a speaker stand ring from the playing of music. Nothing wrong with having some fun and pretending you are making a difference in how your speakers will sound. The sound from speaker have no resemblance to you rapping on it with a screw driver. Mass loading is in fact useful in making the speaker stand more stable; so all is not lost.

    I thought you were going to demonstrate the differences in sound when filled at different amounts. Some speakers don’t like filled stands, so you need to experiment to find which is best for your speakers. I disagree that stands are as important as the speakers.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  2 роки тому +2

      All speakers are the same if the stand rings because its hollow it will ad that ringing to the sound the speaker creates this is just common sense.
      Its also common sense that more mass in the stand the better

      I think center of gravity should be considered too, the higher you fill, the higher center of gravity and speaker will not be stable especially if the speaker is heavy. Not sure if related to sound quality.

  • @XxtothmonsterxX

    The filler you’re using is cheap but they want more for shipping to the states than the cost of the filler

  • @meomarte
    @meomarte 5 років тому +4

    Seems kind of flimsy. Making speaker stands out of ringing material is questionable to begin with. Also using only one narrow tube means there will not be much to fill, therefore not much mass is possible. Also using wood as the bottom and steel top is wrong. Wood is too light and the center of gravity becomes too high. They are not supposed to rock at all, even when empty. The stand should be at least about twice the weight of the speaker, more preferred.
    Also, purpose of that filling material may not be for speakers to perform better. Sellers purpose is usually to sell and make a profit. That filling seems excellent for that purpose.
    Sorry for being so negative. :)
