I recently heard a woman say she'd love to have a pink kitchen but wants to get married one day, so she knows she can never have anything pink in her home. Well, I'm married. I have a pink kitchen, patterned floor tile, lace curtains, and a blue range. My husband doesn't feel like less of a man because the kitchen is pretty. People in the US are often just afraid of colors. It's the whole "what will people think"? So everybody just conforms to the same dull standard.
Personally, I am drooling over the gorgeous, unpainted paneling in the living room and highlighting it with the use of white, contemporary furnishings. The juxtaposition is enormously appealing and refreshing.
The orchids, oh, my, goodness!! The dogs, so cute the little one listening to the conversation. The takeaway, the more pattern you mix the easier it is.
The paneling in that first room...swoon! As he said, just clean it and you have the perfect backdrop for anything that strikes your fancy. I too am glad to see the large rooms kept intact, and not cut up with mouldings that end in the middle of a wall. He seems to have quite the taste for whimsy. I think we can all use things that make us smile.
Pierre Sauvage is a delightful designer for home coziness and being surrounded by the objects and colors one loves. I like the color combinations throughout the home. The bamboo red lacquered coffee table is gorgeous. Fun to see the doggies' basket of toys. Love the doggie steps to the bed. Love the doggies.

How lovely to see something this evening from Paris which isn’t in flames or being looted! The impression the news is giving is that all France is consumed in a violent national breakdown. This video restores my faith that French art, design and culture will survive this latest crisis just as they’ve survived the Revolution, Occupation and everything else in the last few hundred years.
I was watching an old Alain Delon movie from the 1960s last night and the things I noticed about the apartment of the character he was playing, were the boldness of the colour schemes and the rather experimental combination of luxurious antique furniture with quite striking modern pieces - very Parisian! It's the same with Pierre's apartment, although his apartment has a softer more elegant feel due to the inclusion of more patterns and a strong floral influence. It's something you find in Italian interior decoration too - very sumptuous!
Amazing color sense. This house was so full of great ideas. I was a little disappointed he didn't have 3 different color poodles. Keep up the Great work.

I love the chandelier by Herve van der Straeten. It has antlers!!!! How unique. His dining room is beautiful. All the colors weld well together with the wall and the rugs and the pots. His purple velvet sofa is beautiful. His blue claw foot bathtub is soo unique. I also fell in love with the library. Every home needs a library. Beautiful.

Many years ago, when Hervé van der Straeten was about 12 years old I bought in an antique shop a gilded bronze statue of a lady reclining on a throne with one foot peaking out of under her skirts. I was told it was of 'la Goulue' one of Toulouse Lautrec's favorite Moulin Rouge dancers. It is by George van der Straeten which I assumed was a grandparent of Hervé but I might be wrong. I love that statue, she sits in my bedroom.
Such a joy to see the beautiful bones of the apartment still shining through, sympathetically and carefully furnished in order not to detract from the original. Seriously furnished with lovely things but also nods of whimsy as said in the commentary.
I’d love to spend a lot more time with this designer. He has created a magnificent space, he’s so attuned to all the design elements used. And his dogs are adorable, a beautiful person. Maybe follow up with him again sometime, would like to see more.

This is one of my favorite apartments you have featured. The library, in particular, is incredible. There is an obscure movie from 1984, set in Paris, featuring Karen Allen, entitled “Until September” and this apartment reminds me of the one in that movie.
I love the blue rooms. The shades of blue are perfectly stunning. The recycled Turkish rugs cut to fit are lovely. Better than the contemporary floor covering in the other rooms, IMO. The mirrored dressing room with its antique light fixture is especially elegant as is all of the historical fabric of the building itself. I think somewhat downplayed in parts though...but then again I don't live there. Very nice tour!
I know it’s all about the decor but I have to exclaim how his puppy dogs are incredibly adorable! I particularly enjoyed seeing you hold the ultra relaxed pup as well as watching them sit on those fabulous windows while supervising the world as it passes by. The architectural details in his home are gorgeous! Loving all the hidden doors too!

J’adore les appartements parisiens! This one is a dream. The panelling room is absolutely stunning. There is an eclectic mix in this wonderful apartment and it works so well. I do not like the blue pelmet (do not know the exact name) around the bed. That is the only thing I would have done differently. And I regret we could not see the important kitchen. I don't know if they are related but obviously both talented artists. I do know that Hervé's father was an engineer.
