I didn’t want this one to stop. It is not only a beautifully and rather serenely designed house, it feels like a genuine, beloved home and was clearly incredibly well thought out to be functional and practical, also respectful of its own history. But it was also a really terrific interview, we got a whole psychological personality profile and a lot of helpful tips and insight, and inspirational ideas to copy based on her experience. Being Scottish, I absolutely loved her observation about the farmer’s sword and what would we take with us today - our phone? A brilliant piece, loved it.
“Not an inch has been forgotten in the best way”. Amen sister. Lovely to see a NYC home. “Art is essential”. So many bon mots! Thank you Susanna and Stacey 🦋💙🦋
Susanna has so many good friends. She must have a blessed life. Thank you Stacy for the behind the scenes work. You have a keen eye. Happy Spring S & S
Loved, loved Sophie’s artfully curated townhome. A masterpiece of her knowledge of art, antiques and modern design. Every piece was meaningful to her and had its own story. I wouldn't want to leave either. A magical townhome!
My only complaint was that this was wayyyy too short!!! More please! You make my day, month whenever you post so this was total awesome sauce!!! Thank you so much!!!
I absolutely loved the chocolate room with the wall art and fireplace. It was as dreamy as they come. Also loved that kitchen. This townhouse has been transformed into a dollhouse.
My brain just stopped right there. It is a brilliant move to break all the standard design rules about scale and proportion yet it completely rewrites those rules. Size, color, texture, lighting - they all have a role in balancing the look, and I just thought this was so spectacularly outside the box!! I'm in GA too btw!
"Art is like a punctuation on the walls." This is a PERFECT description. I love this. Once again, this is a wonderful video. I always get so many design ideas for my own little casita and my shop. Thank you.
From the first 2 seconds as Sophie skipped down the stairs in that entryway I knew I would love this beautiful home. Love everything about it. The art is amazing and Sophie seems so nice 👌🏼
I'm going to have to re-watch this several times and perhaps reduce the playback speed so I can truly appreciate every little detail. Nothing forgotten. I even love the greenery in clear cylinders in her kitchen. She clearly achieved her goal. Love the levels and access to outdoors! LOVE IT ALL!
So much to look at. Not every room a homerun, IMO, but fabulous modern art, fabulous objects, fabulous mural. I love Sophie's philosophy of collecting. Thumbs up.
Well now isn't THIS interesting: I'm very inspired and impressed by the architectural details and actual interior DESIGN of the home more than the decoration of it. I watched this video twice to take it all in, especially that practically designed but unexpectedly characterful kitchen. (That looks like a housekeeper's dream, so easy and straight-forward to clean, ha!). Ms Sutton did a great job breathing life back into a historic property to make it feel warm, inviting yet elegant and high-end. She got the balance between familiar and modern whimsy just right. It feels grand and full of character because of her reverence for original architectural details. Beautifully executed project. PS= Ms Salk always strikes me as the perfect houseguest. Charming. Thank you for another lovely video.
So glad you took us to the townhouse. This woman did an amazing job! With all we have to see, what I enjoyed the most, were the bedside tables in the primary bedroom, that actually had a good surface area and a shelf, hence useful as many of them aren’t!
My partner and I just moved into a home we lovingly renovated. This video provides so much inspiration because it represents a thoughtfully curated approach that we strive for. I will certainly watch it over and over, but for now, I’m off to work in our garden. Sending best wishes from Okinawa, Japan.
What a great home! I just love her feeling for each room, how she honors the history of the home and appreciates the stories of its previous inhabitants. It really warmed my heart when she spoke of the doctor, my great grandfather was a doctor they lived in a three story brownstone in Manhattan my grandmother would describe it to me. It was near Lincoln Center at the time. Then the hat in the Halston box! My older sister was a model in Manhattan in the 60’s she has a photo in her portfolio wearing a hat very similar. I cant wait to share this with her. Thank you for taking us to this amazing home. Sophie is lovely.
What a lovey and stylish NYC townhouse with architecture/history integrally/respectfully maintained! Stunning collections of art, unique and fascinating objects adorn this home with So much warmth and personality Adored every minute👏🏻
Each room a masterpiece Love the layers ,colors , textiles, Eastern homage, so so elevated and personal. Love ❤️ I love your style. Brownstone living .
Bravo for the mix of eras and color. The moodiness the movement the functionality I wish we could have gotten to see the gardens both Terrace leveling rooftop
What really struck me with this home was the overall feel. Historic/vintage structure underneath, with bold, interesting choices that are also practical. The scenic mural wallpaper in the dining room is everything!!! I love how she made the bathroom floors so interesting. And the kitchen! The large table works so well, with its visual weight, but doesn't block the light or overwhelm the space. Making one side a workspace, and the other a butler's pantry makes sense given the size and shape of the room. With our old house, we also keep the fridge in the service porch/laundry room, where it's within easy reach of the kitchen counter through an open doorway. Our guest room had a faux fireplace with red, blue, and yellow talavera flower tiles and a gumwood Art Deco mantel; we painted the ceiling blue, walls pale gold, and went with an Egyptian theme, including two large framed prints of temples by David Roberts. My favorite piece, though, is a hooked rug I found in a catalogue; it's a tiger skin. These tours are always so much fun! :)
She is lovely 😊 love this home so much history she and her husband live in New York but the rooms in their home makes you feel like your in other countries especially the kitchen 😃
Fascinating history of the house and Susanna always has the right questions. Gorgeous place, not a big fan of modern art but it works really well here, great size kitchen…….🤗🇨🇦
Wow! This episode made my brain fly for 13:23min Thank you once more Quintessence for the inspiration! Sending love from the other side of the planet ❤
Beautiful! A note from a theater geek: Joan Diener was the actress who originated the role of Aldonza, and her husband, Albert Marre was the director, not the author of the book of the musical.
I wish Quintessence will make longer videos. I watched this over and over, it's so stylish, elegant, personalized and yet homey! Love, love, love everything about it including the history and their experience! I love the idea of putting things you love in the guest room as well. We love hosting, friends staying over and I would like them to enjoy our home the way we do. ❤💜
Brava Sophie, what a joy and I agree with so much of your design point of view. I live in a large mid Victorian house and we resisted turning it into a museum. We have such an eclectic mix and our only proviso should be that we like that thing! Somehow it works.
What a fabulous townhouse you have impeccable taste. Thank you so much for sharing with us, but this could’ve been a lot longer as far as I’m concerned.
I love your videos! I have a tremendous passion for sophisticated interiors and architecture as many of us do, but, I always see something new in many of your home tours. Thank you for that! Great design, is, well, Great!
The Halston hat! That should be in a museum - wow!

Hot Pink grass cloth?! Are you kidding! How fantastic! Thank you for taking us into yet another beautiful and inspiring home, Susanna.
Susanna has so many good friends. She must have a blessed life.
Thank you Stacy for the behind the scenes work. You have a keen eye.
Happy Spring S & S
Art is the soul of the house
👍🏻👍🏻
Sophie is genuinely one of those people you’d like to know. So authentic. I love this home and video. Watching it again!
She really is! So glad you enjoyed!
I agree. I saw it twice. Really beautiful!!! Compliments!
@@TheJohasir So did I. Lovely house and very pleasant woman.
Loved, loved Sophie’s artfully curated townhome. A masterpiece of her knowledge of art, antiques and modern design. Every piece was meaningful to her and had its own story. I wouldn't want to leave either. A magical townhome!
Gorgeous home! Quintessence never disappoints. Just WOW!!
Thank you SO much!!

I rarely do this with anything, but I'm saving this to watch again. I need to make sure I haven't missed one tiny thing!!!
Agreed!! Way too short of an episode for sure!
Inspiring. When the home becomes the art.
I absolutely loved the chocolate room with the wall art and fireplace. It was as dreamy as they come. Also loved that kitchen. This townhouse has been transformed into a dollhouse.
It's both elegant and livable! Glad you enjoyed!
Sophie's sense of color and drama are exquisite. I LOVE the large painting in her entryway.
She can come to Georgia and redecorate my home anytime.
👍🏻👍🏻

Art, texture, detail, color and authenticity. Sophie and Jeff’s home has to be one of my favorite you’ve featured.
"Art is like a punctuation on the walls." This is a PERFECT description. I love this. Once again, this is a wonderful video. I always get so many design ideas for my own little casita and my shop. Thank you.
So happy to hear that and that you enjoyed!
This is my second viewing of this video..... i love this space!❤
So glad! Thank you!
My fave kitchen of all the ones I've seen on the channel. And the guest suite? A perfect pied-à-terre!
Both are wonderful! Glad you enjoyed!
art makes every home instantly better

What a lovely lady and what a beautiful and well loved home. Thank you for sharing.

Sophie loves a lamp layered in front of art & i’m here for it

I totally agree! It's not just layers on the top, but the thought process that goes into making each room useful and joyful at the same time.

Beautiful house. And I love the Halston hat! You have never shown a single dud on this channel. All the homes are stunning! Thank you for the video!
“It’s like walking in to an exclamation point” LOVE THIS!

That Mohair sofa is to die for. What a great couple Jeff and Sophie are and, to have created such a beautiful home. So well done!

The house is just Amazing from the wonderful furniture to the beautiful artwork. This is why Quintessen is the best channel for design on UA-cam.
Thanks so very much!
Beautiful townhouse with an interesting history. Love all the lighted sconces. You looked chic in your jacket, Susanna. Thanks for the tour
What a sunning home. Loved every nook and cranny we saw and wanted more!
Lovely use of collected pieces and art. This is an episode that I will watch over and over freezing the video to study each room.
Delighted to hear that!

Great place. Loved the entrance.
Bravo! Great episode!
I love modern art 🙏🏻😍 I can tell Susanna loved visiting this home & I can see why 🔥🇬🇧
OMG!! Inspiring design. I loved this episode
Loved this one. Beautiful and inspiring.
I am in love with all the distinct rooms in this townhouse. And so many rooms! Needless to say, I am not a fan of the "open concept" floorplan.
I'm not a fan, either. If you have art and books, you need every wall you can get.
I love the table in the kitchen and not biring center island. FABULOUS MURAL.
Me too! So glad you enjoyed!
fantastic art work.
