- Continuing on Steve Reeves' articles, this video focuses on Developing the Chest. Reeves gives tips and recommendations on how to develop a prize winning chest, however does not explicitly go into detail about a program. Nevertheless, his advice is worth hearing...his words are gems. Enjoy!
Steve Reeves is my idol. I got my Joe Weider weights when I was 17 in 1959 . I am 80 now and still work out three times a week. Thank you for the refresher tips .
Bro that's inspiring
🎉
It is simple, dynamic, and effective. The old school bodybuilders knew what worked. Great video lad, I enjoyed it immensely.
Steve was an admirer of the Greek Classic world and the ancient Greek athletes plus he respected the golden rules of proportions for his body as the ancients did for anything including the Parthenon. Being a Greek that makes him more than special in my heart
Between Steve and Arnold Real solid Pure Body Building Steve was built pure original ,and Arnold used other elements to built his Muscles. Big difference.
Art Burgos yeah buddy
@@oldnatty61 Steve never banged the maid.
Steve had aesthetics, why Ahnuld cited Reg Park as his inspiration & why Steve called the him out on his b.s. when they met (1 reason). Without James Cameron Arnold would be a forgotten unknown & without Reeves Hollywood would never have hired bodybuilders.
@Guilherme 01SS Lol. Arnie is a sell out, and he shouldn't of won many of the Olympias. He was also part of the decline in bodybuilding which he now speaks out against and even mentions Reeves as the best body and speaks out against the steroids in use today. Nothing beats the time of Reeves.
Reeves was a good example of what people should be trying to achieve, Physically & in respect. Gentleman. A man of God and not a sell out. Reeves spoke out against the corruption of magazines & bodybuilding.
Arnie sold out, and is in bed with the Rothscum, and also says F your freedoms. Arnie is not a good example, a shadow of his former self.
After reading his books,I use : Incline bench press,DB Flyes and DB Pullover. Also use DB Incline curl and Barbell Hack Squats in the full body workout.
how many reps and sets? :)
For myself Its 12 sets total weekly on every muscles. So I train either 2 fullbody or 4 day upper/lower.So 6 sets either 2 exercises per muscle or 3 exercises and 2 sets,8-12 reps on upper body and 12-20 reps on lower and ABS.

hey fellas a quick tip for any flat/incline type of bench movement, but especially inline
as you can see, steve's head is laying flat on the bench when he did the incline. to get the most stretch in my upper pecs, i use a motion where my head is completely off the bench. therefore, i get up totally on the bench with my feet, so my head dangles off the top of the bench and is tilted back
doing this puts the upper pecs in a pre-stretch position. it also allows a perfect angle where the bar is lowered to the neck, not the upper chest. this causes more stress on the upper pecs by reducing stress on the front delts. and of course i do almost all inclines with a wide grip, as mentioned
i started doing it this way when i remembered an old article i read in the 90's (forgot the author). in just one or two sets your chest is poppin'!
this technique also works just as good with flat bench
I did this too. But to look at my handsome ass in the mirror lol.
probably why they had the "moon bench" back in Girondas day
@@JohnProph yo i can't believe i never heard of the moon bench, so i just looked it up. thanks for that info; it's given me a couple of new ideas
@@mgtow-balance3409 yeah, old school stuff. I like to lay my head off the end of the bench on stuff like skullcrushers
Now I know where "Super Squats" came from.
Deadlifts are in vogue now and a great lift.
But give me my Squats !
Thanks for the upload. Very interesting article!
4um360 you're welcome
Very important. Especially the squats.
Steven McCowan love my squats
Reeves and Reg Park were both icons.
Some of the books on your website remind me of the books that were advertised in magazines like Popular Mechanics.
Today's plastic body builders wouldn't stand a chance agaist a natural phenomenon. Steve is my aspiration
I do all the bar bench incline is my favorite but I love all the variety
Steve Reeves and Larry Scott are my heroes.
Me too
Only 1 was tall.
But Scott had better arms.
Can this method also be applied to the front squat? You talked about struggling to breath during the squat and this certainly is the case with front squats :P
Let me know what you think, love the videos brother!
when he does the dumbbell bench press in that picture if you count the plates of each dumbell its 12 plates total x 5 kg which is 60 kg plates plus the 2.5 kg handle ..that's a 62.5 kg dumbbell so it means he pressed with each hand 137 lbs .and i bet he didn't do less than 3 reps which means 5-8 rep range for sure which is a great strength standard natural people should look up to.
14 plates x 10lbs +5 for each barbell.
@@usamade5943 yep ,now that i see that its true.
@@usamade5943 that's 72.5 kilograms per arm. on incline i believe for 10 reps . but we don't know how low did he went with the arms.
however ..the development on his chest speaks for itself.
was he actually natural? wasn't the steroids discovered in his era? he might've used something
@@usamade5943 i actually don't know anybody natural to be able to do that
@@catalyn080 Steroids came about in labs in the late 30's. Would have been pushing it to have them in circulation within a decade. Most people have considered him to be steroid free.
Looks like 140lb dumbells on the incline bench press !!! Wow !!! Very strong
😂
@Always_there99 OH well ,, too heavy for you to lift ,, let's get you some 2 1/2 plates !!! 😂

A King Among MEN💪
Still is
3:33 very easy to hurt your shoulders with that angle of bench, I found. Dorian Yates likes a much lower angle, too, as I recall, closer to 20 degrees.
Results vary. Why are you giving advice on form? Do you even bodybuild? All the nasayers discouraging others on a form the greats used to develop their bodies.
@@salxonico I discovered it by experience, what about you?
steve reeves incline can works to other people and some not same to dorian yates incline we are not the same our body is not the same but in my personal experience the 45 degree incline works for me while the yates incline also work for me but i feel more upper pec tension in 45 degree
Can you do a demonstration video on breathing squats??? Hope it helps many people like me who don't know how to do it!! Thanks in advance
Aravindh Bastin ok, will do
Aravindh Bastin I am starting a new series called Vinces Gym. I will provide tutorials on old school golden era lost techniques and exercises. Will upload soon
Charles Zalakar I just started, will do a breathing squats video soon
Did you see the video yet?
Aravindh Bastin I did the video, did you see it?
Are the pullovers done with a dumbell lying across ( ie not along) the bench please?
Colin Bell precisely correct, across the bench not along
Colin Bell dumbbells cross bench
Great routine
Create his playlist also in the playlist section
I always do incline at 30 degrees not 45 maybe I should switch back-and-forth maybe.
Apex820 you could try that I also do them at thirty degrees, but that's what works for me, at 45 I feel the shoulders, at thirty it's.pure upper chest
2020 ainda motivam muitos!!
need to find a UK supplier for this book
I did plenty of Breathing Squats starting around the age of 17.
Did he do the 20 breathing squats as a single set? And if so, did he do multiple sets?
yes one set but only one set. Ive done three sets, but the stress on the lower back and body is tremendous and reloads are required. Hardest training I've ever done.
What exactly does the 1 brearhe between squats mean
So extra wide and close grip could help for powerlifting
Bro a video on don howarth sboulder workout
Vijay Chatrathi900 will come to doing videos on Don soon, his shoulders were epic
Ribcage expansion works. you get wide af
Joel Parkour yep, worked for me!
I'm 22, does it work at my age
You gotta start at a young age though, Steve practiced ribcage expansion since the age of 14 and his ribcage gradually grew to the width it was.
The food wasn't poisoned back then either
I don't squat. That's vince gironda influence. Will agree with pullovers though.....
Tilak Raj each to there own, whatever works for you and it's awesome that you do the forgotten pullover
Pullovers certainly make the thorax area sore!
Bryz haha, yeah, take it easy
3:39 how much lbs Are these dumbells
150lbs i think or 120lbs
@@lupeesparza4617 holy shit. very nice
They used 7.5lb plates so do the math
For some reason any type of pressing motion never did anything for me
Wtf?
@@thomasmorrell2737 I'm tall and I have short arms. I even went to a therapist and she noticed minimal contraction. So i stick to flys.
@Robert Reid correct. I hold a degree in exercise science and I'm newly graduated doctor of medicine. Everyone has different biomechanics, which would explain why some exercises hurt more people than others. However, mr. Bobby maximus said something that could be of use to us "the gym is one of the only places that will treat you fairly. The more hard work you put in the better results you will get." The trick for me was finding the exercise that my body would respond to, and for me it's the flys.

Steve Reeves is the OG Body builder!! There will never be another! Such a timeless physique! However, the whole "developing the rib box" idea is nonsense. The exercises he did for the "rib box" are great, but they have zero effect on the size of the rib cage... Even Arnold and all the golden era boys used to teach that one had to "expand the rib cage" with exercises like flat bench dumbbell pull over. Thinking it somehow expanded the rib cage to make one look wider. It was a great exercise but the "rib box" idea is total bro science.
Look @ photos of teen Reeves vs. photos of '60's Reeves, reality contradicts you.
@@unowen-nh9ov How does it contradict me? there is nothing unusual about the size of his rib cage... He's got a great physique and great genetics...If you take a picture of anyone in that position, doing that exercise you will see their rib cage flare out in exactly the same way. I see it myself in the mirror when I am at the gym doing incline dumbbell press. Take a look at yourself doing that exercise and your rib cage will flare out like that if you also have wide shoulders and small waist... SMH Bro science all the way... If there was something to this rib cage expansion, the modern pros would be all over it... But if you want to believe santa claus too, don't let me stop you...
My favorite physique of all time.
45-50 degrees on incline, to steep, to much front delt.
Whatever, you know more than Steve Reeves obviously
At :41, I thought he had lost his hands in an accident lol (too much glare on my screen). Sorry Steve.
Yes, why he retired as a rancher, no hands.

Hi
Hi
Wonder if they did steroids back then or natural 😊
Natural, steroids were created in Switzerland by Ciba much later
Thanx interesting@@GoldenEraBookworm
Very debatable...hormones were available.
@@hardcorehouse Hormones are for morons, ANY drug has side effects, do you seriously believe an industry profiting from killer addictive opiates wouldn't prescribe 'roids if they could? Enough of the genetics argument - I love Steve Reeves - his genetics gave him the ideal frame - however the pink pill gave him the muscle to shroud the frame. Let's all finally get on the same page - and Steve was the kind of guy that would admit later in life that he may have unwittingly compromised his health in the long run - as did others. But, finally, I'm ok with steroid use - its a personal choice - I simply ask that those that "take" discuss their experience (without aspersion) so that we can forward the science of steroids and learn. I believe they may well have their place in the medical lexicon. But natty or not - me and everyone that looks as Steve Reeves is wowed and inspired - best ever !!!
Sergio oliva accused him of using roids. But please tell us exactly WHERE is it written that steve reeves admitted to using roids... he always maintained he NEVER used roids... I think you are mistaken.
Friend of mine 6'8", 300 lbs., least athletic human being I've ever known, ALL genetics. Look @ photos of young Reeves, ALL genetics. What drugs gave him that face? Reeves died in his 8th decade post-surgery from treatment for a blood cancer, after decades of exercise, being injured doing his own stunts in movies & ranching. How many heart surgeries has Ahnuld had? Idiots.
Have you seen the statues in Rome?
Similar bodies to that of Steves 500 years ago.
Reeves was a legend but regardless of what people say he did try light anabolics! He was the first one to give Kurt Marnul,(Arnold's first trainer) steroid advice, who in turn introduced Schwarzenegger to Steroids back in the early 1960's.

He was juicing
Not at the very beginning though. Only after he started acting. Go back and look at his physique when he was 16 yrs. old. He already had 16 inch arms, and his back was already starting to spread out. He couldn't have been juicing then, not at 16.
