Steve Reeves like a "normal athletic man" today? With that V-taper? And that straight arms over the head pose where his lats still flares like no one else. Not even many doped up bodybuilders can make that pose look as impressive. The lats and shoulders width down to a small waist AND a shorter torso (makes the V-taper even more pronounced) and long legs makes the athletic look and Steeve goes beyond just about everybody in that department!
"I've spread my lats for thirty days; here is whats happened" is such a great idea, I really would like to see that vid; not so much the results part, but the thirty days coverage ...
I actually just read Steve Reeves book and he always said to go with legs at the end of the workout and his entire workout plan was outlined in that book as well. It was a full body workout three days a week 8 to 12 reps with three sets of each exercise.
Absolutely loved the video! I really wanted to see you guys do this workout. Excellent work. Steve Reeves is truly one of the greatest and most iconic bodybuilders of all time! 🙌
So good to see these guys having lots of fun while working out. This mentality seems to be gone at gyms today - when I started lifting as a skinny teenager back in the 90s I basically did it because for me it was all fun and enjoying the workouts is what kept me going and still progressing until 2024. Reeves was right : if you enjoy something you will stick to it for the rest of your life. Great content, very inspiring! 💪
The thing is, we have natural bodybuilders now, but they kinda look terrible compared to the silver era because they are so focused on low bodyfat that they almost look like muscular concentration camp victims rather than impressive and healthy like the silver and bronze era lifters did. When current era natural bodybuilders are in the off season they look so much better than when they are on contest prep
Agree. I'm no body builder. Just your average 30+ dude trying to lose some weight, but I've always appreciated the body builder look. Just not the ultra lean, dehydrated look.
Talking about the Steve Reeves custom weight belt, would love to see a collab with DIY Duke of you guys building your own custom equipment. Like the older building gyms out of wood or trash videos you made but customized for specific exercises
Just thought I would mention that Steve never used the Reeves deadlift as a hinge exercise but rather a shrug to help work the shoulders and target mostly the lateral head. However he has used as a hinge for strength feats to show weight lifters or other body builders that he was as strong as he looked
Yup! Steve Reeves, there will never be another! My dad introduced me to him, because he was one of my dad's idols! Also, I actually met Steve Reeves, back when he was recommending the Total Gym... before Chuck Norris and Christy were sponsoring it! In like 1983, 1984... He was very nice, and very humble...👍😁 And it's great to see you guys are still natural like Steve!!! You guys have great genetics too... stay natural always!👍💪😁
I love this channel and i love full-body workouts! I love that old school feeling. Train 3 times a week, every other day and rest and don’t be too hard on yourself. Ofcourse, during his rest days, Steve was known for his active recovery. Like powerwalking 40-45 min and then as a finisher training abs and calves❤🥹
Hi Jpop! Yes, apologize we haven't done one already. We've got a good idea in mind which would utilize some DIY creations as well. We will try to get on that. 💪
This one you can tell y’all were having a good time with it. Last two were definitely interesting exercises to say the least. But that dead lift is certainly a recipe for a grip of steel. Also I thought the Will Tennyson mention was funny and unexpected, I think a collab with him would be pretty funny to see.
Loved Steve Reeves. Grew up watching those Hercules movies, and he is still one of the top bodybuilders, in my opinion. (I favor esthetics over mass.) I will definitely try some of these.
He gets overlooked because homophobia is still real especially in America. But he had a magnificent physique As close as anyone has got to Reeves since Reeves.
Do a video, of completing vince gironda 36 egg a day diet I truly believe it raised my testosterone, I made gains and got leaner as the weeks went on. I did it for 4 weeks mon-fri and then ate 5/6 regular meals with carbs on Saturday and Sunday!
You mentioning it made me think about how we don't hear or see anything about the bronze or silver age. So a video or 2 covering that would be cool, possibly a series going from bronze to gold. Heck I'll even say it, a workout plan (when you're done with the current one of course lol) 💪
Great video about a true bodybuilding legend. I enjoyed reading John Grimek’s articles in magazines back in the 1970s. Please consider doing one of his workouts!

I think you should build the Steve Reeves Hack Squat Belt and see how good it works, or is it not that great. plus I think Steve Reeve was in idea of building a trap bar thats what the pinch plate deadlifts look like. Love your guys videos. keep it up
i think he prefered to hold the plates cuz you can strech the muscle more. when holding the plates it works your grip and you can get a deeper streach cuz your chest doesnt hit the bar durring the row. the dead lift realy streaches the upper back too. it might be exactly how he built such a wide frame
Going to try that plate held row today, been working out for 35 years and it's still fun to try new movements. On an unrelated topic, Hudson what product do you use to hold your hair to stay where you want it. Growing my hair out again for the first time in decades. Thanks
Love this revisit to old. I'm a vintage kind of guy, if it's practical and effective. I love my 1950's house. A joy to work on. How about the new book old time lifts for modern lifters ;) It was a different time back then. Watching will tennyson visit one of the oldest gyms Oliphant's in toronto with all of the barbells and old machines. Very cool. They would have loved or hated a smith machine or hammer row. If that was around then, they would have old man shammed it out of the gym. Or embraced it. i'm not sure
I have both Steves book among other articles by Steve & books containing Steve's workouts. I haven't seen this workout. Also, the super wide Grip "Reeves-Deadlifts" that some call it,, was never actually in Steve's workout schedule. It was "only" done to show-off for the camera. Steve even mentioned this in his book. Unless he contradicts himself elsewhere. I'm honestly curious of the sourse so i can check it out?
I actually just read Steve Reeves book and he always said to go with legs at the end of the workout and his entire workout plan was outlined in that book as well
Besides the benefits of grip strength, is there a muscle benefit to the reeve's deadlift? If so, after grip failure just strap through a handle on a 45
Did he have any wrist issues? I have hypermobile joints and sometimes bar work is challenging bc my joints can't support motion the way they should so going right for the plate may help with that. (No idea, just tossing out thoughts)
I do have a set of dumbells. I saw you have a 12 week workout plan. I am 37 and 250 pounds and diabetic. Would that workout help me lose weight. I want to get down to 170 over a year if that is possible. Or would I need a different plan. There is no gym near me. But I have a bench a dumbell which can also turn into a barbell. I havent exercized in years and I want to have better health. Or do you think a different plan might be better. Like the body plan?
Where did you learn that Steve Reeves performed what you termed the "Reeves Raise"? I've never seen it anywhere else and this exercise is not included in Reeves's books.
There was a story I read one time about Steve Reeves. He believed that every rep should be done with perfect form, even if you had to lower the weight a bit after a few sets. So one day he's in Vince Gironda's gym working out and some young guy starts loudly running his mouth about the weight Reeves was using, making fun of the "sissy weights that Hercules" was using instead of "lifting like a man." So this goes on for a bit and Reeves hasn't said a word this whole time, but decides that he's had enough. So Reeves walks over to where the kid was doing deadlifts, he had around 375 on the bar. Reeves then grabs the bar with his Reeves deadlift grip and with no visible strain, he easily lifts the bar off the ground for 5 reps, puts it back down and walks away like a boss all without saying a word. The kid's just standing there with his mouth hanging open and everyone in the gym starts laughing their ass off and clapping for Reeves. I'm guessing that was the last time that kid had anything to say to Reeves except Sir.
@@irishinnj72 I will need to look this up, as Gironda was very anti squats, bench press & deadlift. He didn't allow them to be done in his gym unless it was his variation of those movements.
I couldn't stop laughing when I saw "Cervical Snappers." For real, though, 90's TV bodybuilders were doing this exercise with a 2 1\2 or 5 lb plate, back of the neck and front of the neck.
I don't know much about being Natural in Steve Reeves Era, but I'm pretty sure that Enhancing substances exists since the Greek Olympiads, but they were not banned back then
Nah. They believed in things enhancing them, but no they didn't. Perhaps baking soda for endurance athletes. But roids did not. Not really. Wild boar meat, male boars , can contain steroids so to say. Too bad they aint orals. You could eat that, you would not pass a piss test. But it does nothing.
hello buff dudes i just wanted to know if you wanted to come to the next bend trip again we got another cabin plus last time we met you gave me a shoutout just asking nobody can get ahold of you please come to the trip theres a rock jump its fun
I’m 42, 5’8” tall and weigh 200lbs at about 12% body fat, completely natural. I’m not as muscular as Reeves or the guys of the silver era. I’ve only been working out consistently for a year and a half. I’m just very dense. My kids are the same way. They look like they weight half of what they do. Height to weight ratio is not a good indicator of obesity or natural vs. enhanced.
@ i dont agree, there are plenty of people who documented their natural training for 5-15 years and while everyone is different and there are outliers, you do have a rough bmi where you know somebody is enhanced. If ur really 5‘8 200lbs at 12% after only 1-2 years, i dont know where you started but thats extremely good id even say unheard of. My guess would be that ur not actually 12% but more like 18-20 but if not, great for you. I changed my mind btw, steve reeves could have been natural but to get to that point it takes 8+ years but its possible.
@ oh and also u think reeves was 220 at 6'1 which should roughly be the same ratio as 5‘8 200 so if you say ur not as muscular as steve id guess ur actually a higher bodyfat than u think. Id asses steve at around 9-12 % in most pictures
It's Five O'clock Somewhere is my ringtone. For a second I thought my phone was going off and I almost took off my headphones until I realized it was the gym music.

Would you replace the neck work with the neck roll Mike Tyson would do?
John Grimek next ?
Steve Reeves Is OG Hercules.
Enough said.
I couldn't stop laughing when I saw "Cervical Snappers." For real, though, 90's TV bodybuilders were doing this exercise with a 2 1\2 or 5 lb plate, back of the neck and front of the neck.
Please do George hackensmidth
Buff dudes yeah!!
I felt my shoulders getting injured just by watching you do those shoulder swings! hahaha!
Puss*
Steve reeves, john grimick, and delinger.
Maybe some workouts from The Iron Guru, Vince Gironda.
6:14 Will is gonna make that video now
Very cool thanks for sharing.
Ohh, finally buff dudes uploaded new video
Cervical Snappers😂😂 Damn!
Great fitness motivation
Great vid 💪🦾
That's how we met the first time. And it was probably the best vid
How to divide these exercises over the week
Why are they both shrinking in size?
Probably on a cut. Maybe trying to keep some size and be more mobile too. That said, they flex and they're still pretty damn big. 😂
I think I've seen that last one a few times in some other videos... I watched for research purposes
What's that music at 13:30?
hello buff dudes i just wanted to know if you wanted to come to the next bend trip again we got another cabin plus last time we met you gave me a shoutout just asking nobody can get ahold of you please come to the trip theres a rock jump its fun
11:00 silver era unfortunately was not natural, only bronze, i mean they weight like 220 with this kind if training its kinda obvious
I've been working out like Steve Reeves 3x a week full body for the last 20 months and I put on 21lb of mass
60 years ago they had more time to train because they never had to sit through 30 midroll ADs!!!
It's Five O'clock Somewhere is my ringtone. For a second I thought my phone was going off and I almost took off my headphones until I realized it was the gym music.
i think workout like Steve Reeves for month would be interesting
Reeves must have had all the women back then
Most time spent eating and training so probably not
@@1rickopotamus I swear back then training was not their priority. he was a farmer who lived on his ranch not a pro ifbb competitive bodybuilder.
@@Legacyofmine oh ok
