Does anyone else realize this is the story of a child being smarter and more courageous than most the adults around him someone whose emotional maturity is way lower than his "peers" but still stood strong to his beliefs and unraveled a giant mystery essentially by himself.
It makes sense that because he's a child, he acts that way to appear more mature and be taken seriously. He knows what he looks like and how young he is and how he will be seen because of that, so he most likely acts more serious and "grown up" to appear like less of a child to those under him and his colleagues. It's something kids tend to do in general but most of them aren't geniuses with extraordinary power who have seen war so it's usually more comical than effective. In his case, it is quite effective much of the time, though unfortunately has the likely effect (likely unintended based off how much it has been shown to bother him) of causing him to come across as quite cold and cruel. But at the end of the day he's still a kid masking a lot of trauma and fear and loneliness and being exploited by his people because of his power and potential. To be honest, the very existence of his character (not just a child soldier, but a child soldier in such a position of responsibility) honestly speaks to much of the darker aspects of their society and is one of the things I find the most interesting about his inclusion in the series. His very existence is a constant reminder of what lengths the Gotei will go to and the darkness that lies at the heart of their feudal system.
Hitsugaya is my favorite character in Bleach. He has a good design, cool Zanpakuto (no pun intended), and probably my favorite release command in the series. On top of that, I enjoyed the irony that among the cast of over the top characters that is the Gotei 13, the kid comes off as one of the more mature of the bunch.

It's because of the fact he keeps striving for better things that we can all respect him as a character no matter how much he can fall.
He has quite the interesting duality, on one hand he's a serious fighter and diligent worker yet when put on the spot things get quite humorous with him, especially if Matsumoto's the one wailing on him. Oh hell yes! I generally hope that the anime will use some of the potential the manga couldn't. This is one of those moments. I really would love to see a good kanon reunion of those two plus Rangiku. Or have Isshin and Ryuken join the fray for Christ's sake.
@@ProGamer___ For real. At least a 1v1 with some prominent sternritters. Could've have Ryuken helping Kenpachi and Toshiro instead of Byakuya, and Isshin helping Kyoraku or something.
@@ProGamer___ True. Not to mention if he can also use Mugetsu as he implied. Why he didn't use bankai at all is baffling, but that's like half of the captains so whatever.
I've always thought that Toshiro was awesome. Though I cant remember when he became my favorite among the numerous characters of Bleach, and it has been a while since I have looked back on it, he is one of the few that I think about the most throughout the years. I love his bonds with Momo and Rangiku. (I love every single bond- platonic and familial- that Bleach is able to produce, it does such a great job. And the chapter between Hitsugaya and the grandmother just... I don't have words to describe how touched I was.) I have so much respect for this young Prodigy. There's so much respect between him and his lieutenant and the way you describe his relationship with Momo really proves that she is his heart. The way that things go down in the Soul Society around Aizens death and how he really launches himself into the investigation, she is his motivation. And I was so happy when I saw how they reunited after she woke up. (before things went completely sad and heart wrenching again.) Toshiro Hitsugaya is definitely one of the best characters of Bleach, and it is making me want to get back into the series again. Thank you for making this video to prove that :)
I think.....we need an Ichigo Kurosaki analysis video. As I believe DBZimran can shed light and debunk the misconceptions of Ichigo as an MC. Like how "Ichigo has no goal" , "Ichigo is bland, etc. His character development all the way up to he gets his REAL Zanpaktou.
Kenpachi is my fave captain but Toshiro is a close second. His anguish over Momo's stabbing and overall experience was heartwrenching to watch the first time through, and I recently finished reading the manga for the first time as well. I had to stop reading the last arc just before Toshiro got cut down because I didn't want to witness his "death" until I'd cried a bit over it and slept more...glad it was not permanent.
You did a great job with this video! It's easy to forget because he was being overshadowed by Aizen how great of a character he was and what to give him credit for
Probably the BEST Hitsugaya analysis I've ever seen, in one of the best Bleach channels. would LOVE to see you analyze Hirako Shinji next since he's one of my favorites and the "I know since you were in your mothers womb" line to Aizen always bugs me haha And man, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE TELL ME, where do you get those colored chapters?! The recent ones are easy to find but please tell me where you found those early chapters colored versions, I'm begging you ;-;
Shinji is such an underrated character bro. He's the only character next to Urahara who really worried Aizen. That's why Aizen made sure Shinji would get caught up in his hollowfication experiments so that he would either be killed or banished to the world of the living. Aizen knew that he wouldn't have been able to enact his plans in the way that he did with such efficiency if Shinji was still around. Shinji even says that the only reason he ever took Aizen as his lieutenant was because he knew that he wasn't to be trusted and he wanted to keep an eye on him. Now that's some crazy foresight right there!
@@Sleepy_Apocalypse Yeah, the problem is, in the end, his coldness towards Aizen made him able to trick him, but it was great seeing such a foresighting ability from Shinji. I really want an analysis on him so people give him more credit and praise
@@kakashihatake6052 Yea but when people are bringing up the genius of both Aizen and Urahara, while forgetting that Shinji is a genius too. He just falls somewhere sort of both Aizen and Urahara and that's why his intelligence is often forgotten or just taken for granted if you asked me.
I feel like the reason alot of these characters are easily overlooked or even forgotten is because Kubo at least on the surface seems to value spectacle over substance. The story and concepts and meaning is there but for alot of people we had to wait nearly 15 years for a well educated UA-camr like yourself to spell it out for us. I just feel like everytime I see alot of bleach characters on screen I enjoy how it looks rather than the deeper message Kubo is trying to portray. Hitsugaya vs Yukio, I feel like that was just more about seeing 2 super chill and cool young kids rival each other, it looked cool but meant little as it wasnt memorable for me in the slightest. Or Hitsugaya turning into a zombie, I feel like that only happened so we can see a ganguro Hitsugaya, again because spectacle. Or When he matures into an adult for his Bankai, I feel like Kubo wanted us to enjoy the spectacle of seeing an adult version of this super popular, super cool kid before he ends his series. Almost like canon Fan art or Fanfic, because I cant for the life of me find any significance outside of "look how cool he looks". We're talking about ghost samurai's yet he looks like a rich 22 year old at a Yacht party. The designs are great and it does look really cool, all of bleach is well designed to a T. It's just I always end up remembering the looks and not the meaning everytime I reread Bleach. Thank you for making these videos and fleshing Bleach out in a way I could not conceive of despite being a fan of the series for 15 years. I guess I just wish I could see Kubo's vision the way you do. Great stuff I am looking forward to more videos! Thank you.
Indeed the looks are the ones we remember more compared to the message/meaning that's just kubo's art being too good to have you think about anything else. Kubo also does not spoonfeed most of the things so even the obvious things are misunderstood or ignored because they were not given much time as you would expect or just mentioned once means we can forget much more easily compared to the things we see repeated on screen.
Captain Toshiro was one of my top captain picks because of his raw talent and youth. His journey to maturity and relationships make him an excellent character.
Rather young, really. I think he became one a few years after becoming the third seat of the 10th division... Perhaps a decade later ? Since it's the time you're supposed to take to get a bankai. Assuming that he was, like ... 70-80 years when he entered the academy, he was probably younger than 100 years old. He IS the youngest captain ever, after all.
@@mayadargeon2172 yeah somewhere around there he's definitely younger than Rukia considering her and Momo went to the academy at the same time and Toshiro didn't join the academy until years later when he met Rangiku.

This part confused me, I’m pretty sure they interacted (Hitsugaya, Rangiku and Isshin) before the TYBW yet there was no familiarity or shock from each of these three. I really wanted to see more of them presently to how they’d act from such a long time
@@vaulagaaia4496 I don't remember them meeting in the anime. It may be different in the manga but toshiro was out when ishin jumped in to fight aizen. Another excellent video Zimran! Hitsugaya has such a FROSTY outlook on life and I know I ask a lot but could you do a video on Jiren from super I think he is a bit more complex than what people saw in him when he was first introduced in the ToP years ago when super aired.
Hitsugaya is something of a good counterpart to Aizen, and I think how Hitsugaya's life has turned out gives us a hint as to what Aizen was lacking when he was Hitsugaya's age, that being meaningful relationships.

Hitsugaya is 1 of my favorite captains. I have many reservations against many of the captains because I find their flaws to be too damaging for me to tolerate, but Hitaugaya was never 1 of those. His intuition to smell the fish rotting in the sink, so to speak, gave him admiration from me. Also I am curious about your thoughts on the parallels between him and Ichigo, since prodigy characters are often the MCs of Shonin stories, and especially since Ichigo is a prodigy in his own right.
Ichigo has an insane pedigree, which helps a lot. And he got personal coaching from ex-captains. I think Hitsugayas humble roots make him more interesting but he's not mc material.
Hitsugaya is my favorite character in all of bleach because of everything you mentioned he is under appreciated but aside from this i also support the hitsugaya and rangiku ship as they counter balance each other our very nicely
Nobody: Literally nobody: Toshiro: Aizen, could you not stab Momo FOR LIKE FIVE MINUTES!?!? Aizen: Oh please. The only reason you're so angry is because my sword went deeper than yours. And incase you were wondering, that was also apart of my plan. Toshiro: AIZEN!!!!!! Aizen: I love being smug.
I don’t think he’s underrated in the slightest, he was popular enough to get his own movie. That being said he does get the short end of the stick with all the Aizen mindfuckery, just short of Hinamori.
After seeing the bit where he realizes he stabbed Momo, I was really hoping he would have gotten a few good hits on Aizen via good ol fashioned rage boost. Sadly the captain did not pull a Gohan at that time.
I loved this and Toshiro is a beast....now the chaotic half of me is STILL waiting on the "Hitsugaya Sucks" video from King of Lightning, just to see the dark side, lmfao

Oh hell yes! I generally hope that the anime will use some of the potential the manga couldn't. This is one of those moments. I really would love to see a good kanon reunion of those two plus Rangiku. Or have Isshin and Ryuken join the fray for Christ's sake.
isshin and ryuken should have been so much more important considering what juha did to their wives
@@ProGamer___ For real.
At least a 1v1 with some prominent sternritters.
Could've have Ryuken helping Kenpachi and Toshiro instead of Byakuya, and Isshin helping Kyoraku or something.
@@rainofkhandaq6678 we need to see isshin bankai
(before things went completely sad and heart wrenching again.)
Toshiro Hitsugaya is definitely one of the best characters of Bleach, and it is making me want to get back into the series again.
Thank you for making this video to prove that :)
Hey you seem to kinda have a crush on him
I think.....we need an Ichigo Kurosaki analysis video. As I believe DBZimran can shed light and debunk the misconceptions of Ichigo as an MC. Like how "Ichigo has no goal" , "Ichigo is bland, etc. His character development all the way up to he gets his REAL Zanpaktou.
Who ever says ichigo is bland they watch the show blinded asf
@@Elricsedric oooh boy trust me there’s a lot of tousens in this world. 😂
@@sosukeaizenbutdressedupina4692 I'm stealing this metaphor.
@@sageoverheaven all according to plan!
Thank you for making this video! He is my favorite bleach character! He deserves more attention 😊
Great video and some nice editing
My favorite character is Hitsugaya and so I was really happy about this detailed analysis
My favorite character 😊 thank you for making another amazing video with all the thorough explanations
You did a great job with this video! It's easy to forget because he was being overshadowed by Aizen how great of a character he was and what to give him credit for
Probably the BEST Hitsugaya analysis I've ever seen, in one of the best Bleach channels. would LOVE to see you analyze Hirako Shinji next since he's one of my favorites and the "I know since you were in your mothers womb" line to Aizen always bugs me haha And man, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE TELL ME, where do you get those colored chapters?! The recent ones are easy to find but please tell me where you found those early chapters colored versions, I'm begging you ;-;
Shinji is such an underrated character bro.
@@Sleepy_Apocalypse Not underrated he is one of the most liked characters
My thoughts is that he is tactically short sighted. Pun intended
The same could be said about tousin
@@cobracommander3634 tousen is more of a blindsided turned shortsighted.
Captain hitsugaya:
- A character with Marie Antoinette syndrome .
- Skipped puberty
- Acts like a man.
From the very first time I ever watched/saw Bleach I fell for Hitsugiya he had one of the most unique character designs I’ve ever seen 😌
Captain Toshiro was one of my top captain picks because of his raw talent and youth. His journey to maturity and relationships make him an excellent character.
I remember hearing that he was a prodigy. How old was he when he became a captain again?
Well from His appearance he is 14 but he is Literally 200+
@@Iloveyou-sd4zi gin seemed ten when he became third seat
@@Iloveyou-sd4zi he isn't 200+ even Rukia is only 150 and he's decently younger than her.
DBZimran
Thanks, I love this character very much & am happy I found this to watch. I did subscribe to you. I love Ichigo, Rengi, Ken Pochi, & Toshiro. Their my most favorite ones of the good guys.
Ngl toshiro was my favorite out of all the captins
Dude. Epic breakdown. For real. Your videos are insanely good.
Toshiro is one of my favorite, characters, next to Brakuya. I love both of their Bankai's and they both have badass battle scenes.
Stopped everything for this video
worth.
I haven't watched Bleach in years but, Toshiro still remains my favorite character
Toshiro ice dragon king ~ beautiful analysis !
Extremely well written I really enjoyed
This vid make me love toshiro for the First Time (I'm in Bleach since 2009). Thank you
I love Hitsugaya! My favorite fight in bleach is legit the fight between him and Gin in the beginning. It's just sword to sword skill of 2 captains
Nice analysis for my favorite captain!
I really like toshiro as a character when I first saw bleach and toshiro appeared he immediately stood out to me his design is really cool and he quickly became my favourite character during soul society character and made me look forward to his next appearances and actions he really is my favourite character in bleach really enjoy him really loved your video
I never knew that ishin was his captain. Too bad hitsogiya was out before he hit the battle with aizen. I would have liked to see his reaction to him being there.
Really happy this popped up in my recommendations this is my favorite character from the anime
Another excellent video Zimran! Hitsugaya has such a FROSTY outlook on life and I know I ask a lot but could you do a video on Jiren from super I think he is a bit more complex than what people saw in him when he was first introduced in the ToP years ago when super aired.
This was a great analysis! I learned so much, thank you!
Hitsugaya is something of a good counterpart to Aizen, and I think how Hitsugaya's life has turned out gives us a hint as to what Aizen was lacking when he was Hitsugaya's age, that being meaningful relationships.
I’ve learnt loads from this video thank you 🙏 Hitsuguya is a really smart little dude and I’ve always had a thing for ice powers ever since Sub Zero. It was a revelation to me that Momo was signed up to the soul society before Toshiro.
Personally one of my favorite characters since I saw the series
Diamond dust rebellion has always been my favorite of the Bleach movies because of Toshiro. Hes one of my favorite characters.
He was always my favorite person in bleach his ice powers attracted me
I love your videos your like the geekdom101 of bleach you deserve more veiws.
Hitsugaya is awesome as a character and in battle.
I enjoyed this vid really good take on hitsugaya and the relationship between him momo and aizen I'll like to see a renji character analysis next please😊
Toshiro was always my favorite
His Hyorinmaru exceeds Rukia's sode no shirayuki. He has the strongest ice-based zanpakuto
Not really an accomplishment lmao

Tsugi no mai, Hakuren
Some no mai, Tsukishiro
If this guy is gonna surpass shunsui in 100 years time... Then he is easily basically the Ice version of old man Yama... That's scary
I wish there was one scene in the manga or anime with an interaction between Isshin, Tōshiro and Rangiku.
There was in the anything but the rain chapters i think.

DON KANONJI: THE GOD
I would watch an entire anime series just about Hitsugaya.
Just finished 6 of your episodes, you literally revealed the missing stories i didnt know existed now i got to find them lol
Nobody:
Literally nobody:
Toshiro: Aizen, could you not stab Momo FOR LIKE FIVE MINUTES!?!?
Aizen: Oh please. The only reason you're so angry is because my sword went deeper than yours. And incase you were wondering, that was also apart of my plan.
Toshiro: AIZEN!!!!!!
Aizen: I love being smug.
I don’t think he’s underrated in the slightest, he was popular enough to get his own movie. That being said he does get the short end of the stick with all the Aizen mindfuckery, just short of Hinamori.
Toshiro is my favorite in the series.
After seeing the bit where he realizes he stabbed Momo, I was really hoping he would have gotten a few good hits on Aizen via good ol fashioned rage boost. Sadly the captain did not pull a Gohan at that time.
Love all your analysis videos!! Hope to see either see an Orihime or Uryū video soon!!
This is my Most favourite Captain n best Top 3 characters in the anime
I loved this and Toshiro is a beast....now the chaotic half of me is STILL waiting on the "Hitsugaya Sucks" video from King of Lightning, just to see the dark side, lmfao
After his epic tantrum when hitsugaya did effortlessly cut something kenpachi could not, dont think this kenpachi wanker has managed to get over it
Hiyorinmaru is by far my fav Zanpaktou
Never thought much of toshiro but this video has changed my mind he's pretty cool
Gin was the previous prodigy, again with silver hair.
Consumately, imho, Hitsugaya is to Bleach what Kakashi was to Naruto: an inordinately appealing character artistically, characteristically, and everything in between. It's as if there are no sore spots with the idea of his character.
