    Bought a house with an old boiler and water heater. Been considering several different options including getting off hydronic heating. This sold me on the combi though. Still gonna put in a wood stove or something as a secondary, but man, this is 🔥🔥🔥

    2 years ago I put in a rinnai combo boiler in my house in Ohio as a DIY (I'm not you average diyer) it replaced my old hot water tank and my 50 year old boiler both using expensive propane. I'm using 30 to 40% less propane and its off the floor on the wall

    This Rinnai seems very similar to the infamous Navien units... same heat exchanger that constantly leaks and same electronics just enclosed i think... i hope that from a brand like Rinnai we have a better InProduction product testing for safety and others.

      got a bid requested from a contractor who the customer had put in a mini split heat pump, and wanted a bid to get rid of the Navien combi boiler, and replace it with a domestic water heater, and abandon the floor heat. I told them to get a powervent instead of an electric, and they could just drop the pressure on the gas line, and reuse the flue and plug in power supply.

      I’m saying be careful what you install. The last thing you want to do is spend 1000s and end up with something that won’t do the job you need.
      I’m not sure of boiler models in the states but here in the uk we have storage combi….this is a combi boiler with a tank inside also. This would give you up to 22ltr per minute of hot water over multiple hot water draw offs
      Heating side you should try to pick something that can be range rated…this means you can adjust the kw of the appliance to suit your homes heat loss. This will save you money on fuel
      I know Viessmann are in the states, maybe look into a 111w or a 222f.

      The hot water has been great. This is the first winter with it but it's been keeping up with heating demand just fine. I'm still awaiting the first gas bill with a full heating demand to see the cost savings. I really like how the Alta models have built in outdoor reset and also the firing rate is modular automatically.

    Can I fill a bathtub with hot water using this? Summer or winter? Can you wash clothes and fill a sink at the same time? Water pressure vary all the time?

    • @backwoodshomesteadllc
      @backwoodshomesteadllc 9 місяців тому

      Bath tubs are unrestricted. Fill a 5 gallon bucket for 30 seconds then double it. It will raise water temp 70 deg f. So your cold water is 50f it will make it 120f. And if you got 4 gallon from tub hot water only. Then yes it will work.

      @@backwoodshomesteadllc Not ready to risk a miserable outcome at this scale. Spending several thousand dollars only to find inadequate temperature, quantity or pressure would be... When you talk to a customer about saving $$ they should also be informed of the payback period. Here in New England we are finding that it may take over 20 years to offset the cost of the unit + installation. Unfortunately most of these new technology units don’t last more than 15 years. If the customer wants to be “Green” that may be the more compelling fact.

After the rebate I will be paying about $600 to heat my radiant floors and my hot water, for at least 12 years (warranty). And for $600, if it lasts 12 years, I'm happy.
