    Great information here! Been into large scale gasoline boats and now I'm into big brushless electric boats. But I decided to get a nitro truck yesterday. I got the new HPI Savage XL K5.9.
    I had a hard time getting it running out of the box. The tips here helped me get it running in minutes. Thanks!!!

    I think this is hands down the best LSN adjustable video I have seen yet.
    I'm new to the nitro hobby and am in the process of breaking in my new Losi 8ight Buggy, my 1st nitro rc car. This low needle adjustment has been a pain lol. I seem to get it running okay but the next day when I start it, I have to lean it out to get it to start & then richen it up again to run it right. I'm hoping that it's just cuz it's a new motor. I'm on tank #7 today.
    For my break in, I ran 3 idle tanks on the vert rich side, cooling down between tanks. Then tank #4 @ 25% throttle bursts & tank #5 to #7 @ 50% throttle bursts. Today it seemed to start somewhat easier, but I still had to lean out the LSN prior to starting.

    @rcfreak96 well any area of the Fuel line is ok. Just remember to pinch the same part every time for accurate tuning. I would recommend you putting a line on the fuel tubing with permanent ink to mark where to pinch it every time.

  • @TheRCBiker

    @graemecan Hi there- If you've turned the LSN all the way in then It will be rather lean... If you start engine, and just turn the LSN counter clockwise (Back out) Until it's flushed with the edges (It'll probably stall engine at that moment) then turn it half a turn in. That is stock for the LSN. Re-start engine and check that it idles ok. If it is low engine sound then lean it (CW) If it's high engine sound then Richen it (CCW)..... HSN default is flush to edges and one and half turns in :)

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  13 років тому

    @ahmedtheking123 Check the idle gap is only 1mm open. you can adjust it using your Idle speed screw. Additionally, upon checking and you can confirm it is 1mm open, perhaps your clutch shoes are due replacement. you can check this if you push the break on your car and it stalls, then your ready for clutch replacement.

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  12 років тому

    Usually means your a bit rich, but if it's performing well then no worries. It sometimes depends on what fuel your using, especially if it has a higher oil content like optifuel.

    @gixxerovios Very good question, You always make tuning adjustments when the engine is at normal operating temperature. Usually this is after 5 mins or so of just driving around, using throttle. 110c is a good operating temperature for most engines, it's pretty perfect actually. You could try Richening the LSN just a tad, but it seems all good. Hope this helps :)

    When the idling and high speed needles are set correctly, you"ll have an engine that will response immediately when you crack open the trottle from idle and will have a solid transition of power at all times.

    @rwdb11 180 degrees is slightly cool. Try leaning the HSN out 1/8 turn at a time once the engine is warmed up, and do High speed fast passes. Continue to do so until the engine bogs and perhaps quits at full throttle, at which time you should richen it 1/8 counter clockwise. Just sounds to me that it's currently running a bit sluggish n rich

    Usually at 1/4 to 1/2 there isn't much smoke, if there is then usually means your a bit rich on LSN. You shouldn't get much smoke from the engine unless your at full throttle or sudden acceleration, or driving up a hill etc.

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  13 років тому

    @KiTKaTsOG The truck revving up and moving forward is totally normal as said in the video :D if it quits within 5 seconds then your settings are good. The wheels spinning could be due to a High idle or lean LSN. Use pinch test to check the LSN and if it's good then lower idle screw :) Carb opening gap should be 1mm open

    @MrMLMFB Perhaps you have a clutch issue. But for new engines, it is fairly normal as the clutch needs to wear in a bit. See how you get on, keep it off the ground when idling it

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  12 років тому

    Depends how lean the LSN was. If it was very lean then even a low Idle setting would not stop the high revs caused from the engine being lean. If an engine is lean though, you don't want to disguise it. You need to richen it to prevent damage. Josh

    always go back to factory settings to start from not what some one else has and factory settings are usually flush with the needle housing ,but check with the engine manufactures as different brands different settings

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  13 років тому

    @xontroi Hmm well the possibility might be, that the HSN is running very lean and therefore is effecting the Idle mixture as well. As long as your Glow plugs are not burning out quickly, and the Idle is not too high or engine is revving by itself, then your ok. Fuel % and heat of plugs can often effect tuning settings and engine behaviour :)

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  13 років тому

    @jamockor Doesn't make any difference, but mark a line where you pinched the first time and tune your engine around that

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  13 років тому

    @rwdb11 When the tank is filled over 3/4 sometimes it can add too much pressure and can often cause your engine to run rich for the first 3-5 mins or so of running.

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  13 років тому

    @ScarabChris No problem :) A good choice as well, in time for snow! Have fun

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  13 років тому

    It might be the Glow plug, if it's at normal operating temp when it cuts off then it can't be overheating. Try replacing glow plug :)

    Hi I would like to start by saying your videos have been very helpful to me in the past and helped me set up my last nitro car. I have been running a thunder tiger sledgehammer for 6 months which has been working great and easy to tune. I have just picked up a tomahawk mx and am having a bit of trouble starting it. I have been breaking it in (its been through 4 tanks of fuel now) but have been having trouble starting it since. When I pull the cord the engine starts then stalls instantly.

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  14 років тому

    @addie197 no problems, glad I helped :)

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  11 років тому

    No, wrong way round. You finish with the idle. What your saying is correct, the idle speed is effect by LSN and HSN Tuning settings. Therefore, if you adjust the idle first and then decide to Lean the Low end, the idle will increase. That's why the Idle setting is the last thing to be done. J

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  13 років тому

    @rwdb11 Oh sorry, I thought you meant filled up too high. Having it mounted higher than the engine shouldn't be a problem. It shouldn't make much, if any, difference

  • @TheRCBiker
    @TheRCBiker  13 років тому

    @sreeharan7 bit of fuel spitting is fine, especially at this time of year. HSN being rich or engine not being cleared out could be causing it. Rev it high off ground with the exhaust facing downwards to clear the engine and exhaust from old fuel. :D

  • @TheRCBiker

    @MrPelefant Sounds like its running pretty well to me. 7 seconds suggests slightly on the rich side, but thats not a problem. wheels always spin when you pinch the fuel line :D
