- I'm embarking on a new adventure to learn more about metal casting. One of the key pieces of equipment is a furnace for de-waxing or de-molding, which we build in this video. Below are some links to the products we used in the video
RS PRO Flame Retardant Superwool 607 Fibre Thermal Insulating Sheet, 2.4m x 610mm x 38mm
• Superwool 607 thermal insulation sheet
• Flame-retardant
• Thermal shock resistant
• Dimensions of 2.4 m x 610 mm x 38 mm
• Maximum short-term temperature of +1300ºC
• Maximum continuous use temperature of +1150ºC
• Density of 128 kg/m³
• Thermal conductivity ranges between 0.04 W/mK and 0.48 W/mK

We build our own propane torch due to time constraints however I'd recommend buying one (as it's cheaper than buying the parts)

We used 2x triple-ring burners as the primary heat source. Ultimately we turned off the outside ring (effectively making it a 2 ring burner) because there was more than enough heat output.

For the propane regulator, a regular BBQ-style regulator won't provide enough gas to operate the furnace (most have an inbuild safety feature that limits gas flow) Heres a link to a quality unrestricted propane regulator: amzn.to/3HjRU1I - Наука та технологія
That's pretty clever how you used the mounting "legs" to precisely mark the hole locations. I'm assuming you cut off the points after marking, drilled and tapped for mounting hardware. Genius! Nice clean professional build mates. I used to service waste oil heaters, which entailed much of the concepts of your build. Cheers from SLC! 🤟😎
Interesting project! I've been metal casting for several years but have only done lost wax a couple times. I used a ceramic kiln for dewax. The wax vaporized there too. I think the key would be ramping up the heat. Start out just above the melting temp for the wax. When most of the wax is melted, remove the tray to save wax and then burn out the rest.
oh neat im working on my furnace right now!
Wow. That cabinet fabrication is nothing short of constructing a nuke-proof bomb-shelter. A little less of slapstick humour would be in order for such a serious project. Although I am a BIG fan of the Cow & JLCPCB gags. Looking forward to more, KUDOS, etc.
What's the ceramic material you use for shell casting? Just got my forge/furnace up and running and looking for shell casting material. Looking forward to the future videos
That thing looks dangerous as hell. Especially where the gas flows near hot spots. Not to mention the lack of safety gear. Interesting starting point though. I wonder if the idea could be used as a begining for a ceramics kiln?
Couldn't you print your mold in PVA?? Once coated, the mold can be removed with water.
QUESTION: I just watched your video called “What is a Shunt?” from 2 years ago.
I would like to create an array of shunts that could be monitored and logged by a computer or arduino / raspberry pi, etc.
The purpose is to create all of the
shunts as an inline plug for a solar panel array, so that i can see the live data output from each individual solar panel and also log the data with tine stamp for future review.
Could you create a video on how to do a project like this, or direct me to an existing solution if one is already available.
I have been searching for weeks, and I am not sure what search terms to use for this type of DC logging device.
Thank you for any ideas, links, or suggestions.
Note I am posting this question in the shunt video and your most recent video so you might see the question.
thanks
Idol can i request you to build a fish stunner ,i hope you you see my little request as a follower😅
using a ZVS driver
ARE YOU CAPAC!?
