    Bafang BBSHD 1000w kit: s.click.aliexp...
    Bafang BBS01 250w kit: s.click.aliexp...
    Amazon: amzn.to/3g1Jz7k
    eBay: ebay.us/fKduPO
I've also reviewed the BBS02 (in a previous video) and I recommend it
    Bafang BBS02 750w kit: s.click.aliexp...
    USB Programming cable: s.click.aliexp...
    Gear shift sensor: s.click.aliexp...
    (affiliated links)
    My programming guide: www.schematix....
    Tools:
Only basic tools such as screwdrivers, hex keys.etc are required for fitting however you will probably need a bottom bracket removal tool and crank puller to remove your bike’s original hardware before you can install the motor kit. You may also want a chain breaker tool if you need to alter the size of your current chain.
    Bottom bracket removal tool: s.click.aliexp...
    Crank puller: s.click.aliexp...
    Chain breaker tool: s.click.aliexp...
Parts used to fit Trek Marlin 7:
Offset 42tooth chainring for BBSHD Or BBS01 motor s.click.aliexp...
7.5mm worth of motor spacer rings for the BBSHD motor
    Or
5mm worth of motor spacer rings for the BBS01 motor
    s.click.aliexp...
2x 6mm by 11mm long bushings/spacers for BBSHD motor mounting plate
    OR
    2x 6mm by 10mm long bushings/spacers for BBS01 motor mounting plate s.click.aliexp...
You will also have to lengthen the chain by adding additional links to fit the larger 42tooth front gear. I ended up purchasing another chain to extend my original one

I bought a 1000W Bafang kit after I saw your last video, and have had a great deal of fun on my old 26" steel hardtail DMR. Who cares what size your wheels are, when you've got 1000W at your disposal? Thanks for the suggestion!
A few other tips I'd add: if you have a big battery pack (to go with your illegal-sized 1KW motor, ahem) it pendulums during normal riding, & you need to stop it from oscillating, otherwise, it'll crack/ream out the mount, break the screws, etc. I made a bracket with a fork that goes around the rear of the battery, to steady it, that mounts on the rear bidon mount on my old steel MTB frame.
Fit the shift sensor up at a top part of the gear cable run, to stop dirt and water getting inside and making it work badly.
Also, mount the motor rotated as far up as possible, for ground clearance. Make sure your BB shell faces are paint-free and faced properly, so they grab the mounting lug and gear-case correctly. The tools to do this are expensive, but a good bike shop can do it for your when the bike's stripped down. Saves hours of frustration later.
I had a few problems with a dodgy Hall effect brake cutout sensor, but changed it and it's now ok.
Extra grease in the transfer case makes your nylon gears last longer. I've shredded a pair already, but they're not too expensive, and I've put some proper nylon gear grease on them (the factory stuff is yuk) and the new ones have had a lot longer life already.
I bought a front and rear light to run off the battery (Busch & Muller make a really good range of non-dynamo lights for e-bikes). I had to fit a solid-state step-down to make 6V for the rear light out of the main 52V, (RS & Element14 have them) but the B&M front light will run on any voltage from 6 up to 72v. Not cheap, but exemplary German quality.
You go through brake pads quite quickly with the extra weight & power, but I have Deore XT dual-piston calipers from the bike's earlier life, and fitted some SwissStop pads with fins on them, which cools them and makes them last longer.
Schwalbe Marathon MTB tyres last a lot longer than anything else, with fewer punctures (which are a pain on an e-bike).
The Bafang range estimate on the display is rubbish, the exact opposite to my Kona EV's. I just press the indicator button on the battery, and go home when there's only 1 LED lit.

I've had the BBSHD installed on my Stumpjumper 29'r Hardtail for 2 years now. 52V 17.4Ah battery. I have mavic wheels\hubs with hookworm tires. I'm 6'3 225lbs and I can reach speeds of 30mph on flat surfaces and can go 30 miles on throttle only averaging 25mph. (42t for good tq and mph) I can greatly extend that by setting the pedal assistance to 5 or lower. Zero issues so far.

I use the BBS02B 750W, 48V, but with a 52V Booster battery, using Samsung 30Q,with 2PS14, 6Ah, Discharge 30A, Battery Weight is only 1.2kg !!, at normal pedal assistans 9.4Wh/km i get easily 33Km, not to mention pedaling as a normal bike is also easier as i don't have the deadweight of a discharged 21Ah, 4.5kg Battery. Charging is also a third of the Time. I think this is great for Bikers that will bike more and just use the powertrain to get up hills.

I have a BBS01 that has rode 15,000 km in 10 years and has only had problems once, when a heavy rain surprised me on the street and wet the contacts. I simply had to open the crankcase and let the engine dry in the sun.
On my dad's bike I mounted a BBS01 750w and I think it weighs the same as my 250w. They're both great, but the 750 is already way too powerful. My 250 is programmed without power and speed limitations and has a 2x crankset.
In my experience of many uphills I can say that you can stay without the shift sensor, you just have to shift carefully simply a little in advance, before the chain is under too much effort.
I only broke the gears once with my 250w but it was of poor quality and poorly mounted. A good, well-adjusted gearbox has no problems if you shift carefully (which you have to do even without the engine or even with the shift sensor). You don't even need a dedicated chain, even with the 750w. I think it is advisable, however, to have not more than a 10-speed gearbox and, if that's not enough for you, mount two chainrings, which can be done very well on most bikes. Probably 11/12/13 speeds have chain and gears too thin.

It’s annoying that there are so many rules on limiting motor wattage. Governments don’t seem to understand that I don’t want to race it around at 40mph, I just want to get my fat rear end up some really steep hills. The whole point of which is that I can lose some weight.

the bbs02 might be best in the uk, as its the same size as the bbs01 but has close to the power of the bbshd. good for a stealthy look to avoid detection by the car industry protection inspectors. i accept the inspectors are really only concerned with safety. after all, power slightly greater than what an arthritic 80 year old might put out could pose a considerable risk to the drivers of massively fast, almost totally unregulated two ton metal boxes, who are generally happy to zoom past cyclists and pedestrians, many who are children and old ladies, at any speed they choose at the time, up to about 200mph depending on what car they are driving, at about two foot distance, while spewing out cancerous toxins for the cyclists and pedestrians to breathe in, and half deafening them. and often in town centres too, where many people are just out for nice stroll

62 miles is not far enough so I will be sticking with pedal power until the tech improves.

    • @chrislesner
      @chrislesner 8 місяців тому

When power is off you feel hardly any extra resistance from these mid drive motors so you can bike normally. Bike is heavier however and you loose gear switching on the pedal sprocket. Useful range varies based on amount of assistance you want and your battery size. For long range you can bring more than one battery.

I installed a 1000w direct drive in the front, paired with a 20"*3.30 kenda k rad and the rear 750w bafang in the back on my radwagon 4. Soon I'll be installing a 2000w motor. Right now heels are nothing. I can climb heels at 20mph. This heels he is climbing is nothing, the heels where I live look like the Everest mountains.

It is a criminal offence to use a electric bike that has a motor larger than 250watt in public places in the UK. Is it worth risking getting a criminal record and getting points on your license and even being refused insurance on cars and motorcycles?

I have a 4x4 pickup with a winch on the front. And would like to add a winch to the rear as well. My question is, would I have problems with voltage drop, by running the 12 feet or so of wire from my existing battery to the rear of vehicle.
