This is mad, where have I fookin been, under a rock for about a decade??? I heard my first ever track from this cracking band only tonight thanks to the delights of BBC Six Music and this was a brand new song I pricked up my ears to. Now I have just clicked on this old chestnut and love it as well.. Time to dust off their back catalogue...
Oh God I was so obsessed with this band two years ago and I'm back now and I just feel like I'm being stabbed with the feeling that times were better and I didn't know that at the time.
I know the feeling. While STRFKR deals almost exclusively in evoking nostalgia, things were legitimately better for me when I listened to them all the time about a year ago.
Wow! So weird how music always seems to have that effect on a person. I think it's mainly a nostalgic feeling like another post mentioned and also it just shows that the music provided a great source of comfort during that period, so basically the feeling you could be having is the "good feeling' that the music gave you at the time, now you're thinking that that period was "not so bad" after all, but yeah, it's mainly nostalgia...nostalgic to the feeling, maybe not the actual time period...
I just saw them at neon desert. Got down. saw them later that night. Patrick gave me a hug, I took a group picture with all of them, got an autographed poster, and got called cute. BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE. STRFKR FOREVER
This song perfectly illustrates power of the "nostalgia of music," for me. We are taken back to when we first discovered a song and even if our life was a wreck, at that point, we were at least a bit younger at the point we are reflecting on and music releases chemicals in the brain that make you happy so we miss that point in time in which it caused moments of happiness/euphoria, and the discovery of when music we love was new and how it made us feel. Ive found if it made us feel something profound in a time that wasn't particularly good, the more this is true the more we hold on and appreciate it because it serves as a kind of "light in the darkness." I have always loved a handful of their songs (over the course of the last 5-10 years): Rawnold Gregory, Isabella of Castille, Golden Light, While I'm Alive, etc. So sometime around January February 24,' at the start of the new year, I was listening to one of them and thought " I like every song of their's ive heard, maybe I should see how long that holds true." This was the first song I randomly selected to listen to next and I just thought to my self "you idiot, of course it wasnt a coincidence you were 4/4 and are now VERY much so a 5/5. At that point I chose a few more songs randomly before deciding to start from the start with the 2008 album STRFKR that Isabella and Rawnold both premiered on. Then I moved to Reptilians 10 Year Anniversary Edition and thought to myself "if we lived in a just world, this would have snagged best remastered album of the year (is that a real category? Do the Grammy's even consider music that existed before the year they are focused on? I'm legit asking and will gain a small inkling of respect for them if this category does exist). When I moved on to Miracle Mile I thoughtmyself OK, "Ok, that legitimately did deserve album of the year, doesn't matter what that years opposition was, it deserved it." Long story short(er) within a single day I had listened to every album they had put out and was scouring for singles i had missed (Fantasy was one 🤩), with the exception of the "vault albums" which I determined should be kept in the vault and opened after ive seen them live. Looked up touring schedule: a month( and give or take a half) later I saw them for the first time in Asheville, at The Orange Peel, and it was one of those shows where you just can't fully comprehend the band until you've seen it live. Atlantis was the one of my absolute favorites that did get played (actually they only played half of it😪, but I treasured it anyways) and even though a lot of my personal favorites didn't get played, it still surpassed any show I had ever seen 🤩 Like Phish, I just didn't fully get it until I saw it live, even though when i walked in the door they had surged to being one of my all time favorite bands in a little over a month. Now im patiently awaiting Sep 26, when I get to see them at The Underground in Charlotte with a pre-show meet and greet and VIP club access to an elevated area and private bar 🎉🤩✨🎊🎼🎹🎚🎤🎵🎶 The point in time wasn't exactly a great time in life but that just makes the music we discover during that time all the more valuable
I made so many people watch this video with me while we smoked hookah when we partied at my old house...so much nostalgia and memories, warms my heart.♡♡♡
