3:40 Modern aircraft carriers do not have "tons" of missiles onboard. For example the most modern carrier the Ford class only has 2 MK29 guided missile launching systems, 2 MK49 guided missile launching systems along with 3 Phanalanx CIWS. Destroyers and frigates are what form the core of the battlegroups air defense and missile strike capability with VLS cells that can house larger missiles than aircraft carriers carry.
Yeah that annoyed me. Aircraft carriers are the specialization in modern navies and the frigates and destroyers make up the general capability. Completely opposite of what he said.
The destroyers are the backbone of a carrier strike group not the core. The core ofc is the carrier. Us carrier strikegroups are usually comprised of 3/2 destoyers a cruiser and a single carrier with some ships that can be attached to the strike group like a supply ship or a guided missile submarine. The role of the escorts is to provide protection to the core or figuratively the head of the the force which is the carrier, though the escorts can do certain task like anti shipping, ground fire support and surface bombardment, it is usually the carrier and its wing of aircraft that does those task. That is why the carrier is the core it holds the force together and the escorts as the backbone. (the escort are usually relagated to specialized roles like frigates with anti submarine roles. The cruiser as the basis for fleet air defence and a secondary cammand ship to the carrier and the desrtroyers with multiple roles that includes anti submarine and fleet air defence)

you hit the nail on the head spot on, the UNSC fleet was well-designed for their time, but SEVERLY unprepared for the sudden appearance of the Covenant Navy
This has been my favorite ship to add to my fleet battles list. The model looks amazing, and it's such a solid, tanky model that can put the hurt on cruiser battlegroups of both sides.
Make a video about the Punic, Class, very interesting ships, also, great video about another, mostly unknown, ship of the UNSC Fleet, keep the great work :D
I honestly think that the Orion-class should've been a spiritual successor to the Spirit of Fire. A purpose built warship with a large factory plant, for infrastructure and equipment manufacturing, as opposed to a converted colony ship. It really should've been a part of the new age era of next gen ships. I figure the UNSC would want to invest in an advanced purpose built assault carrier that does what the Spirit could do but better. I would imagine the UNSC would've seen how successful the Spirit of Fire was in her service record. Instead its a new ship introduced into the canon that's actually part of an older generation...
Yeeeesssss, give me MK-II Orion-Class! The Autumns are cool and all, but they most definitely do not have the same Awe Factor older ships did. Something Domineering and symbolic like the Orion, which is named after the Orion-Arm home to the Sol-System and Earth, and as such *THE* representative of the UNSC, would serve beutifully as a Flagship, a role that the Post-War UNSC lacks in.

I'll be honest, I sometimes take certain specifics with a pinch of salt but this was really good. Full of info but also full of personality and enthusiasm. A really cosy watch.
Just found this channel and it has a really charming way of breaking down the ships and putting their practicality to the test. Keep the awesome content coming and I'm eager to learn about the covenant ship next!
I’d like to believe that the UNSC Stalingrad that was the flagship of battle group omicron was an Orion class assault carrier, I dunno if it’s true, but I believe it was an Orion. So there’s a possibility that an Orion was present at the battle of earth, if the Stalingrad was that Orion then it was destroyed over onyx with the rest of the battle group.
This ship reminds me quite alot of the carrier from Homeworld and that's because of its built in factory system but for the looks it more close to flak frigate on steroids
Your channel is probably one of if not the only Halo lore channel that talks about UNSC ships that seem really cool but for some reason nobody bothers to talk about them yet (even the cooler and hardcore channels don't bother to cover these obscure or underrated ships yet)
Thanks for the video on the unsc navy's orion-class assault carrier. Also, I am sure you have read in the halo lore, but apparently it was confirmed that the unsc navy have a wet fleet on certain colony planets that patrol the oceans with their maritime surface warships.
They forgot to add fighters to the carrier. Standard mix of bombers, fighters, and etc fighter would probably help if they were to focus on something vital. Sheilds only works on high speed weapons, pull in close and destroy the coventen shield generator and it is open season.
The Orion, my beloved. Also, saying its doomed by itself isn't fair, its a carrier, specifically designed for force projection and long distance combat away from supply lines, chances are it has a robust Fighter/Intecepter/Bomber compliment. And the ability to create whole vehicles from scratch almost certainly involved small-ish craft (Halo Starfighters are freaking CHONKY, other than the Baselard that is, which is probably what it used.), so it would have fared very well againt Innsurectionist or UNSC ships... ignoring the fact that most of them lost to the numerically supperior and technologically more advanced Convenent fleets... Anyway! Would love to see a breakdown of the Point Blank-Class Stealth Cruiser and compliment, including the S-14 Baselards, what exactly the 4 hangars it has do, and almost certainly not the inside since the Wiki very explicitly tells me they're not gonna tell me.
Loving the content so far! Do you reckon you'd ever cover some of the more famous Fan-made ships that have been all but-confirmed, such as the Nevada-class frigate, or other Sins of the Prophets ships (e.g. Noryang and Eion carriers, Hermes surveillance cruiser)?
I wonder if the choice of two single macs had anything to do with freeing up more space for its carrier role? Perhaps this configuration keeps more of the weapon machinery in the ships spine to maximize volume?
