My husband (61) and I (56) really enjoyed this video:) It is on our bucket list. We have done a small section from the bear gap campsite to the campsite at the suspension bridge (it was part of loop we did from a Gorges State Park trailhead. It rained the whole foothills section of this hike. lol. Still had a great time. I love the positivity in your group. We love to hike and backpack. We may not be as fast as we once were, but we get it done. Thanks so much for sharing your journey. It has definitely re-energized our goal of doing this thru hike.
In any given group of four dudes, there's always one ham. Occasionally, there are two hams. Rarely are there three. But here you defy the odds with four out of four! Enjoyed your video, I through hiked the same route just last weekend with a buddy (not a ham). Could've used more ham. We enjoyed some of the same sites; Hilliard Falls, Rock Creek and Chimneytop. If it weren't for 10 hours and 3" of rain on 4/24, our through hike could not have been better. The FH Trail maintenance is second to none and the campsites were all clean and beautiful. Of course, Taz is a fixture!
I'm Eddie, the guy at 13:50. Enjoyed crossing paths with you guys.. At 57, I'm "in range" to be a member of your club. :) All the best and hope to cross paths again sometime.
NGL, this trail was harder than I thought. My dad and I did it in 20 degree weather a couple of weeks ago and it was no joke. Totally worth the cold and pain though!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! What a great accomplishment!!! And this video is incredibly well done!! Such beautiful scenery and my awesome Brother-in-Law, Carl (Chip) is as always hilarious!!!! Hey Chip, ya think this hike was enough to break in those new hiking boots?!😂
Great video buddy ! I am 61 and 3 of us are doing this in late March. This video was eye opening and informational. Thank you ! Carl is amazing ! Good lord what a trooper !
I hiked this trail solo a couple of years ago, and I also did it in five nights, but I carried all my food to the whole way, with no resupplies. The trail was way harder than I thought it would be. For some reason, I thought that since it was called the Foothills Trail, I’d be hiking at the FOOT of the hills, but NOOOOOO!!! 😂 Taz was my driver too, and he was so nice. When he picked me up at the end I think he was surprised that I finished it at all, much less in 5 1/2 days. I said, “Taz, those were definitely not hills!” And he said, “Nope, I never said they were hills. They are definitely mountains.“ 😆 It took my feet several months to recover after carrying a 30-pound pack up and down those mountains for 5 1/2 days (I wasn’t very hungry the entire time, so I carried way too much food), but I would definitely do it again. Congrats on completing the trail. It brought back great memories, and all of you were so entertaining! 😁 HIKE ON! 👣
Great video! Thank you for sharing! I really appreciate you showing the real struggle rather than just the pretty views! I'm going to hike the trail in April, so it's very helpful to know what to expect! It was fun to watch your group getting through the challenges (well, you made it look like fun 😊)! Happy Trails! P. S. Carl, don't grow up! Thank you for the laugh 😂...
Loved the video, I'm doing a solo through hike 3rd week of November. Think I'll use my broken in boots. Nasty blister, I like to stop for an occasional foot soak, helps. Looks like you had a lot of fun.
My buddy and I (both 70 and in good shape) are hiking the exact same trail as you. Question: were the trails and water areas well marked? Absolutely loved the video! It was helpful, informative and entertaining. Thanks so much for taking the time to post. Best to you and your friends. Paul.
Thanks Paul! The trail is well marked. You should not have any problems navigating. Water was plentiful when we hiked in April. It's been a long and dry summer, so I am not sure of the current water conditions. You might try the Foothills Tail Conservancy for more information. Good luck on your hike!!
I'm a 60 year old female just starting to hike. How should I train for something like this trail? I can't start with it, but it looks great and it would be a good goal to train! I am looking for a group to share hiking, so I hope I find some hikers with experience who are around my age!
The best training is to get out on the trail. Start with day hikes and gradually increase your milage. If you have a gym membership try getting on the stair master. Start out with just a few minutes and gradually increase your time. Good Luck!
How or where do u get the signature stamp in the bottom right corner of ur video? I want to get one but dont know where to get one or how u get it in ur videos like that.
My friend Barry "Big Bear" finished on 4/11. It took us 7 days and we ran into bad weather on the PM of the 6th day. Could'nt see a thing from the top of Sassafras. It began to rain hard and we decided to set up camp at John Cantrell Homesite Campsite. We set up in the rain. Luckily we got into the tents before the heavy rain came. But we were warm and dry. Ended on day 7. it was beautiful and got great views from Bald Knob. Great video and congrats on finishing the hike. Check out my vlog. I did a day by day.
Carl is a badass for not being the first to leave
Y'all get the award for most entertaining trip vlog ever! I'm just dying laughing here! So I want to say thank you for making my day!
Thank You! Glad we could a part of your day!
My husband is 62 and I’m 56. We def know what to expect now lol. Thanks for being real.
Thank you and good luck on your hike!!
I'm still deviously laughing at Carl's rookie new-boot move. Lesson learned!
I check in Carl recently and his pain has subsided. However he does now have some nice scars on his heals.
Yes of course! They are doing good job though!

You should!
You guys would be so fun to hike with.
Nice 👍
Thank you!
Great video. Loved seeing guys like me on the trail. I’m doing this trail this coming spring for my 58th birthday.
Good Luck! It is a GREAT trail. We plan to do it again but in the opposite direction from last time.
@@oldmanhikingclub2310 are you going the opposite way for a reason or just to be different?
We hiked Oconee to Table Rock last time so we want to try and go Table Rock to Oconee. Just to do it again, but also do it differently.
Great Video Al - it was a pleasure to meet you guys and be part of the tramily! Hopefully everyone has recovered! Mark
Thanks Mark. It was great to meet you and James. Maybe we will see each other down the trail again someday!
Great video. I watched it all the way through 😂
Awesome thank you!
Enjoyed watching your hike. Something on my list to definitely do. Your lucky to have willing hiking buddies.
It really is!

It was a much more difficult hike than we thought it would be. A real eye opener for us. Planning to go back in 2024 hiking the opposite direction.

Hope I get to hike this trail soon! Maybe a good gear tester course before a longer through hike. Thanks for the fun
It was a great hike and will be a good test for a future thru hike. Good luck!

Great video and congrats. What's the map app you used
For navigation I used AllTrails. To create the map of the trial at the end of the video, I used an App called Relive.
Where did ya'll stay when you first got there? Hampton Inn but where
We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Travelers Rest, SC.

The logo was created by one of the guys in our group. It is added in UA-cam in the settings when you upload the video to UA-cam.
@@oldmanhikingclub2310 is there a site to go to that you makes logos on?
You make your own logo and then use UA-cam Studio to add the logo to the end of the screen by adding a "card".
