I enjoyed watching your take on the trail. Great editing! A few years ago I did a quick overnight from Table Rock State Park to Laural Valley. After I made my way up the rock at Bald Knob I turned around to look at the ridiculous rock I just climbed. It was an, oh wow moment as I turned to see the view I had no idea was developing behind my back.
I soloed this lovely trail a few summers ago. Thank you for letting me reminisce again. Nice to see the petroglyphs I missed too! Lovely filmmaking and engaging narration.
Perhaps the absolute best intro… seriously. You just captured the essence, the spirit of long distance hiking. Love the video. Doing this trail in a month or so. Thanks for intell…🤙
I saw your video for the first time earlier this year, it is so beautifully presented. Thank you! I am hiking the FHT Oconee to Table Rock in a few days and I can't wait 😀
So glad you enjoyed it! 😁 That's super exciting. The Fall colors are incredible right now. Enjoy your journey! If you think about it, feel free to share your experience back here. I love hearing y'alls stories.
Thanks for that tip about the baking soda! The worst part of my FHT hike (which was my 1st longish distance hike, too) was how bad my clothes smelled. Putting on my wet, stinky hiking clothes each morning was super demoralizing. The endless stair-climbing was nothing compared to the unrelenting stench of my hiking shirt.
🤣 YES! The hiker stench gets REAL. It takes more discipline to put your nasty clothes back on than it does to tackle those difficult climbs. Partly why I brought a change for the halfway mark. If I could just hold myself over until then with baking soda 😫
Very nice video. Enjoyed the narration and creative shots. I love the Foothills trail. It’s a hidden gem in my home state that seems to be getting more noticed the last couple years. Seeing your peregrine award made me go take a look at mine from a few years backs. Great memories! Thanks so much for sharing your trip.
Thank you so much! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video and that it brought you back to your own adventure on the trail 😊 I agree, there's something so special about the FHT. It's definitely gotten more exposure recently.
Hi... Glad I stumbled across your video and chanel. I enjoyed this. I'm glad that you didn't let the 'scary things that could happen' stories deter you from your adventure. Great video. I found it hard to watch. Beautiful young lady with a wicked sense of humour (I'm British) trekking through the foothills and looking each day like she just got out of a salon...Lol. How could I continue? Honestly, the story telling was amazing and the videography was fantastic. Great editing and narrating, I thought the scene where your face was silhouetted in the dark of night was brilliant. 23:58 Incredible view! This video of your Thru hike was one of the best I have seen yet. Looking to do this in a couple weeks, and your perspective helped me get a better idea of what is ahead. Did you use a solo stove? Now following #81!
Welcome #81, thanks for your support. SO, everyone has asked me if it's a solo stove. It is not it's an off brand I got on Amazon. I really didn't want to pay the $70+ for a stove I may not like... and I'm glad I didn't. The wood burning stove is a cool idea but requires SO MUCH attention and takes longer than I like to spend just to boil water. Anyway did you get to hike the trail yet? If so, how did that go??
@@JessicaSojourning Hello! Ive been looking at the larger one for the back yard. Agreed that the stove could be easily replaced with a smaller stove to boil water. I use the BRS 3000 that I got on Amazon for $16! Just finished a short Thru hike of the PMT and planning to do the Foothills Trail now in the fall. Mainly because I want to hike with some other hikers from UA-cam and they won't be able to do this until Oct or so. Really appreciated your perspective of the trail and watched the entire video. There is a ton of places to hike and explore on my channel that might interest you for future hikes. Would love to hear your feedback!

I liked having the best views last (East) but some people like tackling the hardest climbs the first couple days (West) it really is your call. But whatever you choose, definitely give Taz a call for that shuttle. His numbers on the volunteer list on the FHT website
This was a great video. I really enjoyed your narration. The Foothills Trail is on my short list when I start training to get back out to the AT. My then 13-yr-old son and I did GA to NJ in '19 but had to cut our trip short to get him back to school in early August. The few videos of the FT remind me so much of the AT, but with a much higher waterfall to mile density.
Thanks so much. That is so cool. I love hearing about parents taking their kids on trips like that. It's such a rare opportunity and a time I'm sure will always be meaningful to you both!
You should do it! Still the best trip I've been on. So I went West to East because over the Summer I did a weekend loop starting on the Palmetto Trail section in Table Rock and ending at the Nature Center off the FHT. The views coming back into the park were so incredible I decided I had to make it the last thing I saw on the hike in October. ALSO I love the Pumpkintown restaurant on hwy 11 and their sandwiches were the one thing motivating me to reach the end...
Thank you so much for that information! It's very helpful. I would hate to not have success...especially our first backpacking trip, let alone a thru hike. I am so excited for her to join me. I showed her this video and she loved it and is super excited to go too! We love the gnome build story :-). Now we start our training. We live in SC too, so it makes it for easy access to some good trails. So the sit pad that you used that was outside of your tent too - was that an actual sit pad? It looked comfy. Where is it from?
So glad I could help. Funny story, it's not an actual sit pad, even though I use it for that and to keep my pack from getting dirty in the vestibule. You know that stuff people use to line their kitchen drawers? That's what it is. A whole roll of it is like $5. I cut it to size, it's SO lightweight and compact, and if something happens to it there's no major loss. I can make another. It is made of very thin foam but it's surprisingly durable!
Thanks for sharing your Journey, well done video and congrats on your thru hike :) , I will be doing this hike in a few months as my first thru hike, wish me luck :)
@@JessicaSojourning Its coming along well, been doing some shakedown overnight hikes with comparable elevation gains and I think my gear loadout is set, Oconee to Table Rock is the route . I'm Excited :)
I really enjoyed watching your journey through the Foothills Trail and your narrations :)! I am planning on doing it next year with my daughter who will be 14. So I have a question for you about the cook stove that you used on this thru hike and was hoping to get any pros and cons that you can share. I have been looking at the Solo stove for two people and need all the feedback that I can get. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! That's so awesome. I say this a lot but I LOVE hearing about parents introducing their kids to backpacking. Y'all are going to have an incredible adventure!! So this trip was actually my first time using a wood burning stove. After a whole week with it I gotta say I love my isobutane stove more. There were several nights where I couldn't find any dry sticks (or enough to get the water boiled) and ended up with cold half rehydrated meals. It's a very cool concept and does save on weight BUT I found more things went wrong than right with it and after a long 15 mile day it's not what I wanted to deal with. That's not to say I don't plan to use it again, just not on a long trip where I need a consist supply of fuel. I hope that helps!
OH MY GOSH! One time I was in a store in Traveler's Rest and the lady working there started telling me all about the Deliverance Chattooga River story.
Even better...some friends and I were eating in restaurant in Clayton some years ago after paddling the river and we got to meet the guy who was the young banjo player in the movie... he was actually working in the kitchen at the restaurant! True story! Love the Foothills trail...a friend and I had the great idea to try and fast hike/run the entire trail in one push...we made it 50 miles in 20 hours before crying uncle! Another great trail up there is the Chatooga River trail...45 miles and follows the river for the most part. Did that last year with my old dog (15 years old at the time) and unfortunately will be our last long distance hike together... she just can't handle the miles anymore. Enjoyed seeing your hike!... hope you have many more great adventures ahead...
That's so cool! Ha, well I'm glad you got over halfway through at least. Can't say there's anything that would motivate me to try that... well, maybe a family of persistent bears. I've only been between the FHT and Ellicott Rock section of the Chattooga trail. I was thinking about taking my other dog Barrett on it this year. Happy to know it's good for four legged friends, especially a senior one. I'm so sorry to hear she won't be joining you on anymore adventures like that, but it sounds like she's had a good run :)
Barrett should love it... Smoky (my old girl) had a pretty rough time...I had to pick her up like fifty times a day to help her over trees and rocks so we went pretty slow. She can still canoe camp though and we've got some more adventures planned coming up. Enjoyed your FHT doc... really well done!
@@JessicaSojourning Oh wow! You're prepared. Was the trail well marked with blazes? I have the pocket guide with waypoints every couple miles. I'm taking a Garmin for emergency & communication but it's mapping app doesn't have this trail and I really don't want to spend an additional $40 on Gaia.
Oh yeah, very well marked. I'm a total research nerd lol. I had cell service to check in back home at a couple places along the way so for me an emergency device didn't feel necessary. I've found Gaia to be worth the subscription price. I know there's a couple maps for this trail on AllTrails. Don't remember if you can download the map to your phone on the free version, but that's also a navigation option.
I wear a pair of "barefoot" shoes I found on Amazon. They're pretty much durable water shoes. I did a review of them last year ua-cam.com/video/pmpi5XzAykM/v-deo.html The links to where you can find them are in that videos description. Hope this helps!

Thanks! How's the planning coming? Are you going Oconee to Table Rock or the opposite?
@@JessicaSojourning Its coming along well, been doing some shakedown overnight hikes with comparable elevation gains and I think my gear loadout is set, Oconee to Table Rock is the route . I'm Excited :)
That's exactly how I prepared little weekend hikes here and there. I'm so excited for you!! I can't wait to hear how it goes
Thinking about thru hiking the foothills trail this summer! :)
You don't want to do that to yourself! Lol. Between the hellish heat and pterodactyl sized mosquitoes Summer is brutal.
Betcha didn't know they filmed Deliverance on that river!...
Well it's good Smoky still has that.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it.
@seagrasstosassafras - when you do a thru hike, like the Foothills, are you dropped off at the beginning, and someone picks you up at the end?
You can leave your car at one end and arrange a shuttle to drop you off at the beginning. There’s trail angels you can call.
Loved your video! Did you use the pocket guide at all for navigation or just Gaia?
Thanks so much! I used the spiral bound guide at home and made post-it notes on the full size map for reference in addition to Gaia.
I LOVE this video btw! :D
Ha Thanks!
What pair of shoes did you use?
I wear a pair of "barefoot" shoes I found on Amazon. They're pretty much durable water shoes. I did a review of them last year ua-cam.com/video/pmpi5XzAykM/v-deo.html The links to where you can find them are in that videos description. Hope this helps!
@@JessicaSojourning It does. Am a current convert to barefoot shoes, and mildly surprised that my feet survived a climb up a rocky hill. As in sharp rocks.
Right! Barefoot shoes took me some getting used to but it's pretty crazy how feet will adjust to the change.
Nice video. I tried out the Odysee site. Do you have to create a login to watch videos there? I tried to watch your gear storage video but couldn’t get it to play. Any pointers? Thanks
Hey. From what I understand you don't have to create an account to watch. I've been having a lot of issues with uploading and viewing videos myself lately. I'm not sure if it has to do with their servers or what. I'm sorry if that wasn't much help, that's one of the reasons why I keep utilizing UA-cam.
new subbie
Welcome to the channel. Happy to have you 😊
where did you take the shower? table rock state park? did you have to pay?
Way I see it a week of parking fees justify a quick visit to the campground bathroom 😆🤫
well a Glock 10 mm can do an excellent job in repelling bears, kill them deader than sh*t...lol. coming from personal experience
No way! 😲 Glock 43X (Tiffany & Paisley) is my carry of choice 😆 Stylish and effective.
