      I wish. I inherited mine and the weather stripping looked just like his and the speakers didn't work. Within a month of getting it running I had to replace the passenger headlight motor and just had the VATS fail. Instead of jumping the VATS, replaced the tumbler, but then found the plastic in the column all cracked when we opened it.

    With the exception of the VATS and speakers, pretty much everything else you brought up could be mentioned in a video for any 30 year old car. They're wear items that have in most cases lasted well beyond their designed lifespan.

    • @Brycereigle2000
      @Brycereigle2000 3 роки тому

      Well i'd also say that a 30 year old speaker shouldn't be expected to last this long too, it's almost inevitable that the cones will be rotted out by now

      I just removed 1992 era coolant hoses... theyre still good but I'm tuning up the most important things in the car and I'm surprised some stuff is still solid. Especially if you buy one bought from a grandpa type. With maintenance they last for eons.

    I've owned a '91 Convertible for 30 years and both the radio CDM and the fuel sending unit failed last year. The fuel sending unit, living in fuel tank, was an easy fix, but the CDM was a pain to get out, since it was under the passenger-side dash. Interesting, that they both failed at the same time. I suppose that isn't too bad for a 30 year old vehicle. However, I did have to do normal tuneups, oil changes, replace tires and battery a couple of times, but I suppose those are normal maintenance items. I think the trick to the longevity and trooble-free vintage Corvettes is how well you maintain them.

    I owned an '88 35th Anniversary Edition. They were individually numbered on the console by the shifter. I loved that car! Headlights worked Great! Now my '03 50th Anniversary the right headlight failed. Only thing on my '88 was alternator went, and the antenna. The roof panel, I had 2, the hard top and a smoked. Your panel is an easy fix. You can buy a replacement on eBay. Scrape the old one off with glue. Buy a can of spray carpet glue from auto parts. I sprayed new glue on and new headliner fit perfectly. My car had 45k miles.

    I added a VATS delete switch and upgraded my stereo system to subwoofer and speakers with a 750 watt amps, with a new head unit that has a foldout screen with Bluetooth, front and rear video camera's, phone calling capability. Replaced the bad L98 350 with a better 88 L98, 4 bolt main bored out .040 over. Flowed the intake, and rebuilt the aluminum heads with Manley valves and Crowler rockers, with a mild Crowler cam. Designed and installed one off custom seat covers, and did the interior plastics in carbon fiber. I do R&D carbon fiber for a aircraft company and have experience in this. My 86 indy pace car has been completely taken apart and rebuilt with all the suspension rebuilt. It was a flood car when I started. All new electronics, wiring, vacume lines. Also replaced the exaughst with Magna Flow components, and new set of shorty ceramic headers with the Air tubes. Only thing I need is new paint, due to chips.

    I have a 1989 with 200k miles that I have owned for 25 years. My headlight motor actuators have been epoxied but still work. I have only had problems getting vats keys duplicated but no problem with the system itself. I have replaced the water pump once. I have had no problem with my steering wheel even though I use the steering wheel to get out. I have replaced the headliner. My cup holder door is original and is working fine. My Bose is kaput. My weather-strip has been replaced once and needs it again. I have broken the mirror control knob and the glass trunnion, but no gears on my mirrors. My power antenna has given up, twice. I have never had a hiccup from my fuel pressure regulator. I guess your average may vary.

I've had to do fuel injectors, egr, new cats, fuel pump, fuel filter, cap and rotor, IAC, and am currently working on changing the head gaskets. Fun cars, but be prepared to constantly work on them.

    • @jerryb19531953

      It's better to buy a Corvette with normal mileage . The car is made to drive not sit in a garage for 6 months a year. Why buy a vette if your not going to enjoy driving it? The fluids need to circulate for proper lubrication. You will have more repair cost just to get a never used vette on the road than a vette with say 80,000 plus mileage. The price you pay for a vette that has been driven normally is a lot less and will be in better condition.

    I have a 1990 corvette and it’s definitely needing its weather stripping replaced (free car washes living in the Pacific Northwest 😅) and even after taking it in for low coolant” it’s been giving me the light again so back in I go! 😮‍💨 and winky headlight on the passenger side - somehow works better when it’s raining (free lube?) and or after it’s been driven a bit. Definitely a car that needs babying but it thankfully hasn’t left me stranded (yet). Oh and my A/C which is a $1400 conversion job. The old version is obsolete - made hot summer driving pretty swampy. Otherwise the paint is in excellent condition and it’s low mileage. Super fun car!

      @@user-dz6zd2sk5c That's why I prefer the 1991 with the L8. Less HP but with the low torque it moves.

    First you should try a little maint man, I have a 87 and the rubber looks and feels brand new. Maintenance is critical to any car that old. Stop complaining and fix up the problem and be proud of that car. Sorry but this is a piss poor review because this car hasn't been taken care of properly.
