“Wisdom cannot be imparted. Wisdom that a wise man attempts to impart always sounds like foolishness to someone else ... Knowledge can be communicated, but not wisdom. One can find it, live it, do wonders through it, but one cannot communicate and teach it.” ― Hermann Hesse
The moment she started speaking, I started smiling. That's the whole point of being here, right? Within our communication, connecting. So enjoyed this talk and her energy!
It has been so interesting to watch how marketing has changed in the past few years from that that supposedly 'professional' (but robotic) approach.... to seemingly more human. I loved this talk. Shirley has amazing energy and such good ideas.
I remember working for a company that made us take some sort of test to figure out our communication styles and how we processed direction - it was interesting to see how most of our team preferred the niceties and made them more productive because they felt more appreciated.
Shirley! I love the focus! Yes, communication both spoken and written, changes over time to be modern, simpler and using everyday English. However ... your favourite colour hasn't changed ... it's still red! Great talk!
There used to be a time when we wrote such elegant letters, I went through my grandmothers old letters the other day, it was so beautiful. Going by post on paper I think they really cared about what they wrote, now we just throw the words out there.
oh this was such an amazing talk! i'm thinking so much about how i communicate with people because i think it sounds professional when really it's just so cold...
When my gran died, she had like a thousand saved letters from 80 years. People really did care about writing in those days. Now we just scribble a note in an email with no care.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I'm constantly going on to my mates about effective communication and how it's so much more than just words. Such a good talk, I'll be passing this on to a few people I know..
How good is this!! I wonder if she's the reason we have seen a shift during 2020. Or perhaps considering this last year, companies are finally figuring out we relate better to a more human approach. Thoroughly enjoyed this talk!
Thanks, Shirley for sharing this talk. With the way AI's are taking over repetitive jobs, your talk is thought-provoking. Your message is powerful with actionable takeaways to make the human connections. Well presented, while having all the fun in Shirley's style!
is this why all the big companies are trying to be more personable now? i'm starting to rethink popular business models now... so much relies on communication and just as Shirley has said... great talk
With regard to this TED talk, I found the content very insightful. Please be advised that I will be disseminating this to my network to improve their writing. 😂 Totally guilty of writing like that back when I was working with the government! Thank you for the simple yet impactful message, Shirley!
Nothing, I mean nothing has changed like we are changing right now, it's like a bad dream happening. And then you see people flaunting what experts say, sorry but I am terrified right now.
I have thought the past week, people (for the most part) are communicating better now during this social distancing. Maybe because we are limited in time to what we can say..
2nd time watching, and I like this, but I dont seem to have time to communicate better. What if your bosses don't give you the time, everything is numbers n ow not context.

The world of change, that's a good thing and yet there's one thing that's still stuck in the past. Really informative talk.

There used to be a time when we wrote such elegant letters, I went through my grandmothers old letters the other day, it was so beautiful. Going by post on paper I think they really cared about what they wrote, now we just throw the words out there.
