The letter said, te Japanese found it to be a really strange request from usa to expect 3 faulty machine. Anyways, they had sent the ordered 1000 + the 3 faulty ones n also described wer the fault was. This is a true story. Quality is a very personal etiquette for Japanese...

in fact it is not difficult to make. just similar as a chiffon cake. the difference is in the ratios of different ingredients, and the wood mould to make the whole cake rises evenly without a middle dome.
to be honest, it's not a fancy cake. the ingredients are simple and cheap, only eggs-sugar-oil-honey-flour-mirin. no cream or cheese or wine or vanilla is used (these are truely expensive ingredients).

機械は最初だけであとはほぼ人の手で作られてるとは思いませんでした。
