For me the best option is the "L" shape but up side down and attached to the house. You'll have seating up to 20 to 26 people and the other end bbq island with a bar seating island (remove the chairs) for a buffet style dining table. If you have a flat lot/land, it wouldn't matter the season or time of day of the event. And for the other side of the area build, maybe, a pool, pond, or some plants and fruit trees. But make it bigger, and go even bigger, so no regrets later when your family and/or your circle of friends grow.
Detached is the best …..question when installing a structure pre-plan do you do the ground/ floor , do you put the flooring down first or put the structure up and then put the floor around it first ?
This video is the first one in a serious of 3. The next video will discuss the way we build our structures. That one should answer your question in depth. The short answer is that we do the structure first and not until that is 100% complete do we move on to the other ideas including the handscaping.

I'm building a 25x30 open gable detached patio cover in Central Texas. What is the ideal eave height for a patio? 8', 10', or other? On one side, height provides better views of the yard and feels more open. On the flip side, lower eves provide more shade and protection from rain.
It would depend on the style that you're going for... What style is your home? Interior space? What is the look of the Backyard space? If u were to describe your space in a few words...what words would u choose? Sorry your question is not a simple answer 😂
Thank you for including alternatives and creative ideas for different backyards! I love the destination detached structures add.
Thank you Imara. I always appreciate your comments and your support. Have the best weekend.
The second one at the beginning of the video was great

You should do Florida covered patios
Great videos, how much is the standard size of pergolas in your videos or for around 1200sq ft backyard space?
Many of them are 14x14ft.
How would you attach a cover on an inside corner of a L shaped rancher?
Can you put a covered pergola on a second story deck to keep water out of my screened porch?

After watching several of your videos - it appears 2 items consistently ignored are wind and insects.
Are any of these possible with a backyard that is only 35’x13’?
Your designs are awesome! How should someone treat the wood (over the years after you're done with the install) so it retains that brand new shine?
Staining the wood every 3 years should do the trick
What do you think about the alumawood covers? Do you prefer wood over the alumawood?

Are you private contractors do you work for residential homes ?
what design software do you use?
Trade secret Tyler 😊
