Coming from a w211 e55 owner who recently bought one of these im genuinely shocked at how much better it handles and brakes. Obviously the engine in the e55 is the tits (especially when modified) but the handling/braking difference is genuinely crazy. IMO these are a bit of a hidden gem.
That seems to be the common thing we’re hearing from owners. It wasn’t ever a car I was interested in, but I really enjoyed my short time with it. I’d be interested in driving one longer term.
E55 has always been one of my "what if" cars, I currently own an F82 M4. The E55 was much cheaper, less sporty and a more daily kind of car. I drive my M4 a lot as a daily, in the right lane smoking my pipe but I'm often a hooligan. But I've always had this idea that I would own a murdered out E55 Facelift like a gangster. The E55 facelift, every RS6, Cadillac STS, Jaguar XJ-R and E38 (C124 too) has always been the gangster cars. I want you to tell me how nice it is to have a proper mafia car so I can do the switch
@@Seb94126 M113k just has way more off the mark torque and when modified its on a different planet to even a bolt on's m156. But as said not having SBC and the better chassis of the w219 is a nice difference. They are both very different engines really in how they perform m156 you have to rev it and it's somewhat honda vtec feeling compared to a modified e55. With the 7 speed and me9.7 ecu the m156 is just a whole lot smoother driving too. Basically if your not drag racing everywhere the m156 is the way to go and just fix all the common issues and its a great car whatever chassis they put it in. Obviously a w204 being 170kg lighter with better steering will always handle better again than a w219. But generally cls63 are alot cheaper than w204 c63 atleast where I live and longterm they are a far rarer car.
Great Review 🤙I have a 2006 in the Obsidian Black also with similar mods, only 63,000 miles on the clock, owned it over 7 years now and will prob never sell it,a Great weekend car it is 🤙
I was considering the 09 CLS 550 I mentioned in the video as a winter beater, but once the car showed up on trade it wasn't worth it. Horribly beaten with mismatched panels and damage throughout. I'm glad I passed on it, and really happy I had the chance to drive the AMG here!
Really liked the video! I have a 2005 CLS 55 AMG myself and just love that car. Everything from the way it handles, to the looks and especially the sound. Both the 63 and the 55 sounds amazing! Mine is white with black interior imported from Japan (Left hand drive), and to my surprise, the stereo head unit has both slots for DVD but also a mini disc. The whole screen tilts up or down. Love the cap by the way, I have just the same one in my car at all times.
BMW X6 was before it. But this absolutely gave birth to BMW 4/6-series GC and Audi A5/7. This Mercedes is something I could trade in my M4 when I get tired of driven sporty. CLS gen 1 and 2 are crazy good looking.
This just looks so... Italianate! It's the best-styled Mercedes sedan in decades. They goofed it up in the 2nd-generation version. If my Boomer memory serves, this is only the third 4-door I've ever heard referred to as a coupé. I still recall the Rover P5 and P6 were called coupés as well. However...this coupé is...PEAK coupé. It was fun to see you enjoying it to the full.
I had a blast filming this one, hoping to get the chance to do some more cars like this now that I've driven this one recently. The styling has grown on me, helps that the owner has put on a newer-style AMG grille, and the final year of production with the updated exterior bits helps too. I'd be curious to drive the C218 now, the interior looks like a mix between my C-Class and S-Class.
@@PRNTestDrive I hope you'll get to sample that C218. I've liked the C-Class since I lived in Germany when they first came out. Sure...the old car is radically different to what is on the market now, but the nostalgia (or...anemoia) is still there. Take care!
$28k ? Wowww that’s high. It must be in pristine condition to fetch that huh? Mine kinda fell in my lap, i did some carpentry work for a client, and he gave me the car as payment. I accepted, we valued the transaction as $3,000 so i got the car and then cash on top of the deal. Kinda feel like a bandit…
Finally, I see another w219 with carbon fiber trim. Little surprised that it has pre-facelift steering wheel. I'd be happy to chat with the owner of this beast, since we both own p30 versions 🤘
Are you getting cf interior warping/peeling at all? All of my slats for the rear slider have peeled up, and part of my cf front dash is warping. :( So sad. Looking at custom alternatives soon...
@@TeslaWasHereyes! The interior does not age well, right? It has to be garage kept otherwise the sun will just wear it down. For some reason my sun visors are falling apart, all that carbon fiber looking material in the dash is kinda faded and discolored. I think mine sat for awhile in someone’s driveway, the low mileage reflects that. My guess is that it probably needed costly repairs, and so it just sat in their driveway for a few years. I’m with you on that, planning to look into restoring the interior. Driver seat and also the passenger, big tear in the leather. Might look into a premium leather seat cover, idk. Never been a fan of seat covers but what can ya do ya know?
@@1joshua Interesting. I haven't had too many issues with the leather or other soft parts, just the CF resin warping... I guess I did notice the passenger seat visor started to split near the door at the seam, but other than that, some typical leather surface cracking, but not really fading. Funny I happened to be looking through my notifications to see this!
I love mine…….. it’s a monster, although the interior is shit. Doesn’t age well. That’s my only complaint. Really love the body style, the exhaust notes, and the performance.
Glad to hear it! I know what you mean about the interiors though, this one had some rough spots on it. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to film this one.
The interior is pretty much a copy from the E-Class, feels right at home. Would love to revisit the W211 after filming this, it's been too long since I drove one.
@@Redkey7 reliability and tuning potential. M113K is one of the greatest engines AMG ever produced and it’s quite easy to work on. M156 was known for headbolt issues, but even if they are addressed, the 55 just has so much more character and the driving experience is miles better.
@@Wha_SAAB Not only headbolts but camshaft adjuster issues (pins wear away the softer metal of adjuster) and also camshaft lobe wear. The 55 also has so much more torque, even in stock form. I just love my CLS55.
Can you spot all the differences on this car from stock?
Front grill seems different and definitely a steering wheel 🤷♂️

Yes! There she is 😍 great job! Video turned out great!
Thank you again for letting us feature it! I had a blast driving it around Mexico. Enjoy it!
"I enjoy eating salmon so why not have it as a car" best justification ever for getting a CLS 🤣
Could also argue that donuts are tasty so this CLS would be a good buy also 😆

MY favorite thing about the CLS models is the handling. There is almost no roll in the turns.
We’re hearing that a lot in the comments!
In America they have them for 15k I’m looking for one now, I had the 500 model can’t wait to get the 63 almost double up lol
Sounds like a pretty reasonable price. I believe the owner of this car has listed it for sale for about $28k CAD if you're interested.
