I first saw & appreciated Helen as Maeve Ryan in the "Ryan's Hope" soap opera in 1975. I was 14 & absolutely LOVED Helen's character in that show! I also had a major girl crush on Kate Mulgrew ;) It's hard to believe that Helen has just celebrated her 98th!!! birthday two days ago (19 July). Happiest birthday to Ms Gallagher-- what an amazingly sweet and multi-talented woman! xx

People forget how good she was and really such a reminder of Sutton Foster of her era.

That splendid dance number brought down the house when I saw it on Broadway in 1971.

Never knew about Gallagher's long history on Broadway. Love Bobby Van.

2 time TONY winner. Gwen Verdon's understudy for Charity in Sweet Charity. She worked with Fosse, Balanchine, Agnes DeMille as a dancer and she had a "loud" voice in the Ethel Merman sense, and Helen says she got work because her voice carried to the back row (no mics when she started in musical theater.) She performed in the Ed Sullivan show many times.

I love how audiences in those days didn’t have girls going wooooooooo woooooooo . That’s so annoying now
