Thumbs up if you came here because you were feeling nostalgic and wanted to relive the days when video games actually did something other than force you into a mindless grind.
I started playing the day the servers opened in the winter of 1997. I played on Pacific as Great Lord Aradaxus. I joined an anti guild called The Kgb led by Jetstar. Those were some fun times! Teleporting everywhere looking for Dread Lords and having massive battles at the dungeon Shame and The Xroads. Yeah, I was feeling nostalgic.
Was telling the woman about the server wars we would have at 5am - it was insane! Thumbs up if you actually understand what a real MMORPG is like - origin days...
I was jsut commenting about this on another video lol.. SERVER WARS!!! many a night I would come home from whatever party I got shit face drunk at.. wasn't 21 yet so house parties or a rave. I would head home just before the sun came up. Sit down in front of the computer login head to the Britan graveyard for some good old-fashioned mass murder. I was always sad when it was over because the adrenalin was going full bore from the thrill you got from this game.
I started playing Ultima Online in 1999. I was on Chesapeake. If anyone remembers Mara Sedai or Viva LaMusica.... that was me :) I played until 2009, then WoW caught my attention...... I miss UO a lot though. It will always be my 1st mmo-love :)
I have played loadddds of games since this game. Despite it being over twenty years, it is still be most challenging and rewarding MMO I have ever played.
Dying in this game could ruin your day. Just like that... And once you left the city limits.. there was that uneasy feeling that you could be assaulted at any moment.
which made it more engaging than any other online game. Once you figured out how to play well it wasn't as dangerous as people who gave up as frustrated newbies make it seem
This is actually how I discovered the game. I was playing Diablo and I was a legit PKK meaning I didn't dupe anything and I looted all of the gear I used and I fought PK's (which was very rare as everyone duped and traded duped items). Anyways, I attacked someone in Hell and they "MK'd" me which meant "monster killed". In Diablo, if you killed another player they'd drop gold and an ear, but if a MONSTER killed you, EVERYTHING dropped. So what players would do was lower your health and let a monster kill you. Well, since I was a legit player all of my gear was very, very hard earned. Anyways I lost all of my stuff and I started complaining and the guy simply said "You think that's bad? Wait until you play Ultima Online and you lose EVERYTHING." And I was in awe, I thought "man if this is hardcore, UO must be UBER hardcore" and so I went and bought it ASAP and entered a world where I soon wandered north out of Britain into the much warned about wilderness. It genuinely felt dreadful leaving the safety of the city and I soon found out why it was so dangerous. Like a thirsty wanderer in the desert, I saw something too good to be true. I saw PILES of loot everywhere. Gold, armor, weapons. In a frenzy I began taking everything I could when all of a sudden I saw several people emerge from the shadows. Before I knew what was happening, I was dead. I double clicked their characters and saw "The Murderer Mako the Fallen" and felt sick. There was something dreadful about seeing the words "The Murderer". I watched as they sorted through my stuff and threw it on the ground, adding to the dreadful bait which lured in so many unsuspecting victims. Of course, I was utterly hooked.
I started UO back in 2000 on Great Lakes. I was in a guild called FS! & I got scammed by a player in my guild named Judas, who put a keylogger on my computer connected to a beheading video he linked in a guild chat. He logged into my account when I was at work and stole a few things. Not too much(I didn't really have much) & I wasn't too worried. I also invented the term #rickroll in Buc's Den. Most fun game i've ever played in my life. Wouldn't change a thing.
I was trying to find some old UO videos my friends made. Anyone know if I can find old UOFun flash movies? ( I miss these days more than anything in the world. I swear, best times of my life! )
I play Legends of Aria server called Legends of Ultima. They have recreated the entire map of Sosaria with the LoA engine which should go live in a few months.
If any old UO Old Timers here.. I used to go by Ayvis on both Chesapeake was in Brothers of Brethren guild and Great Lakes Odyssey of the Golden Dragons guild. I used to love guild wars with PK guilds. I remember one of them pk guilds OGD would fight was a PK guild that wore jesture suits like black and white. I used to love patrolling the roads from Trinsic to Britain and to Minoc. Mostly Britain and Minoc areas to protect newbies and make alliances with some PKers, and always run back to town to call for backups when there were PK groups that I couldn't handle alone with my master tamer, swordsman Knight on my white horse. Then I had a master tinker thief who I would use to rob player's shops and set traps along the roads.. Those were the days..
I can die a thousand times, but I'll always be there. Seriously considering just going checking UO Second Age out again, ghost town but I bet there is still someone there.
Check out uo outlands man, full loot server, 3k players, totally new world. It rekindled that original ultima feeling with the pks and such, like the original days.
lol, imagine trying to pull a healthbar or target someone who's running on a horse with an EB or purple potion. Would be a nightmare unless it was drastically simplified.
Anyone here that wants to re live this feeling check out uo outlands, it's a full loot server like the og days, totally new world and dungeons, character progression that goes well beyond the 700.0 skill points, balanced pvp.
Oh man, I forgot all about the original character creation screen. It's funny also because this was obviously made before the death animations were in the game. At the end you see the gargoyle alive and then all of a sudden it's corpse is there, hehe. Good times.
I wish I didn't have to wait till 1999 to get this game.. and could have afforded to get it when it was new.. the game only took 5 short years to be warped, and twisted into some carebear shit fest.
I still have my original box with cloth map and pin, and my original CD w/ jewel case and strategy guide that showed each animal/monsters diet and habitat.
Anyone who wants to try/recall the ORIGINAL UO experience (just like in this video) should try the shard UO:Origins OUT. Gameplay of the original pre-T2A UO. Era of Dread Lords, small houses on the top of tower roof and plate mages! Come and see what gave UO its name in the gaming history. Are you with us? uoorigins (dot) com
I was one of uo original gamers in 1999 from beta to second age.. It was way better then cause it really had no pvp restrictions other than pks couldn't enter npc towns, when they tweeked it up for pk pvp cry babies to make pk suck, it made pvp suck. Then when eq and sims online came out they copied and made it worse by adding new playable eq style races and classes and sims online build modes...
@@DJxSGGxNeo I've played and actually got my 12 year old brother hooked. He's played every day for six months or so. He's actually one of the top 5 duelers on the shard, his name is Wizaard.
Yeah i sold my Lake Superior account in '99 or 2000. My grandparents were shocked to see I got a money order in the mail for $2.5k. I actually bought another account on Napa to have lower ping.
Thumbs up if you came here because you were feeling nostalgic and wanted to relive the days when video games actually did something other than force you into a mindless grind.
It's been 9 years since you made this comment, come! Come join UO Outlands! The populations is very large and very active!
I still play, the old days are exactly that. I quit regular 2001ish. But i play on Outlands now.
@@nfapeng187 Is Outlands just felucca like the original?
11 years since you said this and still no new MMOs that are worth anything. Darkfall was amazing but that one too now has disappeared.

The good ol' days with memories that I will never forget. I was known as Ulic Qel Droma, Baramos and Exar Kun.

Amazing advertisement !
They weren't kidding when they said "it never ends". That was warning. I'm still playing on production shards, mainly Atlantic, 2024.
