  • Here's my honest review of the 2023 Porsche Taycan, after spending a week with one in December 2023. How is the car to drive? Does it work as a viable daily driver given the avaialbe charging networks? What is the Porsche Charging Service?

This is a reupload! For some reason, there was 3 minutes of the video missing in the last version, thanks all for watching!

Here’s my thing with EV’s. A key point is actually on the MG website, which openly states the average lifespan of their EV Lithium Batteries are 10 years. The model S which is one of the oldest EV’s you can buy is 10 years old this year and the first 8 cars found on Autotrader at that age ALL had battery replacements. How many cars at 10 years old need a new engine? For something like a Porsche Taycan sitting at £120k, I’d feel pretty hard done by knowing id spent that money on a car with a big timer ticking down from 10 years to death.

I've been a Taycan owner for 16 months, first with a 4S Cross Turismo and recently changing to a GTS Sport Turismo. My only comments are: If you work with an EV as it should be used, it works. I travel around Europe and have no range issues and it all just............works. The second point is they are a great car, my GTS is probably up there as the best all-round car I've ever owned (and I've owned some nice cars). They are epic.

Couldn't you find a dry spot to do the review?! I was wincing at the thought of you getting in the car with those muddy shoes! 😂

Bought my 4S used last summer. 233mi summer/ 184mi winter and have acheived those. Charging at home from my Solar or super cheap off-peak Octopus Agile, 10-7p/kWh. Even in winter, full charge for under £15. Public charging for EV ownership is just not viable for anything but road trips. Love the car and benefits easily outweigh the minor invonveniences of stopping more often on an occasional long run. Great review, balanced overview and useful experiences.

    Nice review joel.

Thanks, @itsjoel. Enjoyed this one, and all of your videos of late have been great. Nice to see a genuine person being themselves on here.

Joel , I commented on the previous video, but just to say I think you're now leading the class of car reviewers for your in-depth and comprehensive analysis of what a car is actually like to live with. I love how you've progressed this channel to this point. Your review of the L460 Range Rover is definitive in how it covers the great bits and the not so great stuff. Good luck to you for the rest of 2024.

how long is the charging cap guaranteed for ?

  • @manualgarage

Thanks for the review, would this possibly replace the cayenne?

Beautiful car Joel, I do love the shape of the Shooting Brake ( I'm an estate lover in general) as for charging cost v's fuel, what would running a 911 Turbo cost? or a bit more realistic Audi RS6? think it's a little unfair to compare it to the Diesel Range Rover even if it is a V8

    Thanks Joel, great video 👍

I love the "brutal" reviews! Now let me get a beer and snacks 😁

  • @MrBinabanana

Fantastic review and really fresh to have somebody present a truly indifferent and unbiased review that also reflects my experience. As you point out, have a charger fitted at home and charge overnight at 7.5p/kWh for a 220+mile range and the price of public charging when you need to use it becomes largely irrelevant. If you have a drive with the ability to charge and do less than 200 miles a day most of the time, as the majority of the population do, there’s not much not to like. The automatic hate based on zero experience is so heavily prevalent in so many. Keep up the good work.

Just picked a Taycan GTS as a long term loaner while my car is in for some work. Looking forward to seeing what it's like to live with.

  • @BLKMMEDIA

35 minutes and your vidoes are so easy to watch the time flys by.agree with you about the litle fiat.

  • @BHBeckenbauer

Some of the comments here are worrying. A lot of people clearly get their EV ‘knowledge’ from the daily mail

  • @Ritte13

So when you go abroad in this car the charging network chooses your route…….not the scenic route but the range anxiety route

    Another good video 👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great to see such a well thought out and balanced review. Makes a change from some of the click grabbing reviews by others.
