Kensei isnt failure to fist, it is to learn that all things are fist: Whip is fist on a rope, bow is a fist missile, and the innumerable handaxe you buy are to make a rain of fisting the essential part of your long distance relationship with the enemy.
@@aduffyguy Another good kensei monk combo I've found is to combine the kensei monk with a paladin. The end result? A D&D version of a Jedi Knight. With this combo, I don't need a weapon to channel a smite, I can just SMITE things with my fists.
Wizards just released an Unearthed Arcana where your monk can summon a "spirit warrior" that's an incarnation of his willpower. And it punches really fast. So, we can add "Jojo's" to the list of "anime you're now allowed to imitate"
Best moment I ever had while playing a monk was catching a cannon ball being fired at me, throwing it back and managing to kill the guard that launched it in the first place. Monks can be really fun. (I also accidentally killed one of my party members attempting a similar situation but it backfired spectacularly. Flaming arrow and friend holding a barrel of gun powder is not a good mix.)

Agreed. In one of my brother's campaigns, in which he allowed myself and only another player to make gesaulted characters, I combined a Kensei monk with an Oath of Devotion paladin. The end result: the D&D equivalent of a Jedi Knight.

As someone who has played D&D for a little while (intermediate level, newer to 5e), these videos are way more helpful than a lot of the more 'serious' ones.
I actually just flavored my sun bolts as energy swords. Who doesn't wanna be surrounded by floating daggers-->longswords and then THROW THEM AT PEOPLE.
Kensei with the Acolyte background and the Magic Initiate feat for a few Cleric spells is an excellent way to play a “paladin” imo. Flavor it as a warrior-monk who is part of a militant religious order, a la Knights Templar. A paladin by profession, but not by class. Only downside is no badass armored knight look, and sword-and-board is a no-go. But imagine the character dressed in humble traveling clothes, a tabard with a holy symbol sewn into it, and a hooded cloak approaching their foes with a wickedly sharp longsword held high and a longbow on their back. Flavor the lack of armor as a demonstration of faith and/or a vow of poverty.
i love how every time you make one of these you add a little figurine of the class that you just did, its a small detail that i really enjoy, keep up the great work :)

@Lance Clemings Once had a party with an aarakocra monk in that getup. The suit was stolen and didn't fit very well, but i'll be damned if that wasnt the most dapper owl-boy i ever saw.
It's a nod to his first Crap Guide series, where he did the same thing, but for Monster Hunter weapons. The intro would feature all the weapons he'd previously reviewed, and the outro would add the one he just did. Also, the Longsword got longer with each video after it was reviewed.

@@jemm113 I was always confused about the advantage part tbh, you turn it on as a bonus action and it last until the start of your next turn, so when are you supposed to use it? or can you use bonus action *before* your primary action?
@@dasmause5682 you always use bonus actions in any order on your turn. ALSO if an ally let's you attack on their turn (like with the battle master ability) you still get advantage. You all so get advantage on your attacks of opportunity untill your next turn!
@@dasmause5682 Yeah, you aren't limited in the order of the actions you have to take. You can use your Bonus Action before your Normal Action. That feature in particular has AMAZING synergy with Action Surge, which gives you a free action to attack with, meaning you're attacking twice as much with Advantage for one turn.

If you want to be the monk rogue this is a pretty good class to dual spec Into especially if you make whip and rapier a monk weapon!

I noticed the Easter Egg in this series. Every outro has figures of all the previous episodes
It's a nod to his first Crap Guide series, where he did the same thing, but for Monster Hunter weapons. The intro would feature all the weapons he'd previously reviewed, and the outro would add the one he just did. Also, the Longsword got longer with each video after it was reviewed.

I actually like Fighter Samurai for the advantage and extra attacks, but kensei lets you play a wandering ronin really easily.
@@jemm113 I was always confused about the advantage part tbh, you turn it on as a bonus action and it last until the start of your next turn, so when are you supposed to use it? or can you use bonus action *before* your primary action?
@@dasmause5682 you always use bonus actions in any order on your turn. ALSO if an ally let's you attack on their turn (like with the battle master ability) you still get advantage. You all so get advantage on your attacks of opportunity untill your next turn!
@@dasmause5682 Yeah, you aren't limited in the order of the actions you have to take. You can use your Bonus Action before your Normal Action.
That feature in particular has AMAZING synergy with Action Surge, which gives you a free action to attack with, meaning you're attacking twice as much with Advantage for one turn.
