Mickey Newbury wrote the song. Elvis later helped to popularize it...
You are both amazing talents and I want to thank you for the tribute to Mickey an amazing songwriter and friend and I sure do miss him. If you ever had the opportunity to sit with him and listen to his longer, story songs you were indeed blessed!

... Hey Ray! Long ago, I drove either 50 miles, or 80 miles, east of Branson,, deep into hillbilly country, and a fellow there showed me a sassafras tree. I peeled a root, and made sassafras tea, which is exactly like root beer! Have you ever done this?

This looks like it was shot at the Caba Ray in Nashville, which did not open until 2018.
Yes, this video with Larry was shot in early 2016 in Ray's sound studio on Music Row. They built the set around the same concept used for Ray's CabaRay Showroom venue which, after it opened in 2018, was used to shoot the show for season 6. Thanks! -RS Team
