"Dear Andy, it has been so long since you passed away. I'm grateful to have lived with your songs for over half a century. I had a happy life. When you sang this song, you would say, 'This is a song that Robert Kennedy loved.' Singing this song for your dear friend was truly something wonderful. I am a huge Elvis Presley fan and I feel embarrassed for Elvis and his fan's when I hear such childish, nasty comment's about other singers- just because they aren't Elvis. Elvis version is certainly different and has it's own beauty. Andy Williams version is delivered so sensitively and passionately that it cannot be faulted. Show some respect. Rest In Peace Andy.
I am a huge elvis fan too!..and good to hear a sensible comment! Andy williams had a phenomenal voice! Yes i prefer the elvis version but this is a great version also!
When I was 14 I becama fan of Andy williams and I still am! I have written a letter to him and he has sent me a nice card. I've saved it as a very dear gift. One of the most beautiful voices ever. Thank you
Recorded in May 1978 for the BBC at Royal Albert Hall, London. Andy Williams (1927 - 2012) was undoubtably one of the finest male singers of his generation. Just listen to his voice here - Many others noted here are also fantastic - all greats, but for me, Andy Williams touched my soul when he sang like none other.
I am also a huge fan of the Elvis version. I was 11 years old when Elvis hit and I was hooked from the beginning. I first saw Aloha from Hawaii after Elvis died and I cried like a baby watching it. I have it on DVD and CD and, even playing it in the car, I tear-up. I have to hand it to Andy Williams though--this is truly a heartfelt version by great singer with an incredible voice. May they both rest in peace.
Without doubt this is a great version but you can't help think of Elvis although arranged by Mickey Newbury. Elvis' version was so full of passion and power that his performance was truly out of this world.
My earliest memories, just fleeting images really, are of seeing Andy Williams on TV. I was maybe 4. Pre kindergarten.. I always think about that whenever I see him. And what an amazing voice! Nice and unique interpretation of this great piece, too.
I have loved his singing since I was 12 years old when my Aunt to me to the State Fair in Wisconsin to see him! I saw him in Branson when he told the audience he had cancer and he died the next year, so sad!
My deepest sympathies to the family! Andy will always have a super special place in my heart! Heaven is richer, more beautiful place today with him singing around the throne of God! There will never be another better singer. He poured all of his heart & soul into each song & you can feel it. Have all his Christmas albums. Holy Night & Little Jesus Boy alawys brings tears to my eyes. RIP Andy. No Andy for Christmas, no Dick Clark for New Years. The holidays will never be the same.
This is a sublime, WONDERFUL version by a man who in my view is an American treasure, Mr. Andy Williams ( RIP). Andy really takes this song to the heights and I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience this interpretation. Sir Tom Jones also has one that in my view is THE version because of the core gut power/passion he puts into with that One of kind voice. A hearty round of applause to both those incredible vocalists and the rich legacy of Music they shared with the world. BTW, Sir Tom Still at 80 plus years of age, has retained much of that powerful and unique voice. Cheers 🍻
Elvis Presley, made it a hit song. His version was the best. His feelings came through so very strongly on aloha from Hawaii. This man has a nice voice though.
Wow! Andy really did great justice to this song! I got chills more than once listening to this. The only other version that give me chills is of course from Elvis Presley.
Your right, don't fight about great talent. Each to his or her own.We are lucky to have so many great versions of this great trilogy.I am English and love Elvis and Andy Williams but also love the original version written and sung by Mickey Newbury the GREAT Mickey Newbury, just take a listen and see what I mean.Take care all.
Don't get me wrong, I saw Andy at Ceasar's Palace and his entry from the back of the building singing Moon River was one of the greatest performances I have ever seen.
@@raymofarrell19 I guess Elvis's version isn't everyone's cup of tea, but for me not only did Elvis's voice sound excellent, but the band was extraordinary on the Aloha from Hawaii show. I applaud Mr Williams for his ability to sing this song and make it his own. I also prefer the Elvis version, but that's because he had a stage presence unmatched by many.
I was at this concert, and it was the most beautiful thing I've heard........just a shame whoever posted it cut the very end off, the bit of Impossible Dream that Andy added to the end was superb, fantastic last note......xxx

Boy he took the raw emotion and pain which makes the Elvis version so powerful, right out of it. This has zero feeling. Sounds just like another vanilla 70’s pop ditty when he sings it. Nobody and I mean nobody can sing this song right outside of Elvis. I stand on that.
There are some truly great singers who have done a great job with this song song, but no one comes close to Elvis. Just listen to the 'hush little baby verse' and you will see the emotional connection Elvis had & no one comes close to the power and passion. Andy Williams does a good version which I listened to all the way through unlike the John cash version, which I thought was terrible.
