IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS GAME FOR ALMOST 15 YEARS!! Seriously, played this a handful of times at a sitter’s house as a child, and have been looking for the name ever since
Another forgotten PS1 gem in a similar vein to Brave Fencer Musashi was "Threads of Fate". It's shorter and probably rougher around the edges than Musashi, which is probably why it's even more obscure today; but I think it had some really charming characters and moments, particularly for Rue's campaign, as well as an absolute banger of an opening theme song. I'd love to see The Completionist give Threads of Fate a look; and it'd also be a relatively short completionist playthrough, probably less than 20 hours.
Wow this took me back to 4th grade when i printed out the full walkthrough for this when i got too terrified to think during the Vambee chapter. Such a gem indeed. The soundtrack alone makes you feel like you're on some grand adventure...which this game was. Much love!
YOOOOOO!!! The original Brave Fencer Musashi vid you uploaded is the reason I discovered your channel years ago. Thanks for doing this video and man, oh man, thanks for including The Gaming Historian. In fact, thanks for all the hard work you and everybody from the channel has put in. Now, please do an episode with Wrestling With Gaming!
LEGEND OF THE DRAGOON!! I saw that Jirard and it made me so happy! Please some day just play it, you don't have to complete it, but it would be really awesome if you just played it.
Holy shit Im happy you guys are here. I was so hyped to see my boy Lavitz doing his Typhoon addition. I'm still praying for a remake or sequel. I guess I'll settle for Legrand legacy though.
@@IWillScoop man I love me some grandia 2. That was such a benchmark game for me. Even 3 was okay. I bet you're stoked for the announcement of the Xenosaga trilogy remaster like me!
Been waiting for this one. If anybody asks me what my favorite game of all time and I'd say it was Brave Fencer Musashi, they always get this blank look on their face because they would never have heard of it. I would definitely like it to be rereleased on digital.
Most definitely bought this game back in the day just for the FF8 demo. And holy crap I fell in love with Musashi. It just had character and charm that is straight up absent from games today. Recently snagged a ROM for it and am loving playing thru it on my Steamdeck. God what a great era in gaming ❤
This was the first game I played that had a day-night cycle that actually affected game elements (shops were closed, secret stuff became available) And absorbing enemies to get new abilities was a fun concept.
I remember how awesome it was for them to have audio, not just through cutscenes but a lot of encounters. It was rare in those days. Also, it was amazing that it was analog stick friendly. That was a rare feature back then too.
What a great collaboration. Two of my favorite UA-camrs working together on a Square game? Just awesome! The creation of the ESRB was probably my favorite episode by Norm. Also, honorable mentions to his April Fool's episodes and his Halloween episodes (especially the first one).
Such a longtime favorite of mine! A friend of mine and I used to play this so much back in the day--we never considered it a Zelda-killer, but it was so fun and so different from what Square was putting out at the time. There was so much we loved about this from the gameplay to music and on. Many years later I was able to help a new friend out by reminding him of the title--he loved it too but couldn't recall the name and, as a hidden gem, nobody else he knew had any idea what he was talking about. Great episode you two!
I’m a huge fan of the Gaming Historian and I love this collaboration. My older brother bought this game when I was a kid, but I never played it. It’s still sitting on my gaming shelf after 20+ years.
I've gotta say, Musashi is one of those games that I like more and more thinking back on it, even if back when I reviewed it I saw a bunch of small issues piling up. It's just got that charm factor that blurs over all of the problems with time. I just wish we'd get a port of SOME sort soon, I still can't believe that you can't buy it digitally on PSN in North America! Great video as always, guys!
Thank you so much for this video. I've been trying to remember this game for years. All I remembered was going over a friends house one day and after playing a little FF7, he introduced me to this game. Unfortunately, he moved away shortly after, and we lost touch. I never learned the name of the game, and could only recall a few vague elements.
My friend linked this video to me because I've always told him I loved this game, despite only ever playing the PlayStation Underground CD demo of it, and now I'm subscribed!
super happy to see this back on the channel so glad it still holds up also really great to see Norm again love to see guests on this show it reminds me of all the great episodes with guests that you had to take down like Jesse on Dead Space, Pbg on Ocarina of Time, and Jared on Illusion of Gaia maybe we will see those guys back as well huh?
I remember playing this when I was a kid and for the life of me, I couldn't remember what it was called for years. Since everyone started bringing it up, like SomeCallMeJohnny and whatnot, I was like, oh crap, that's the game... I went and played it recently, and it's just like how i remembered. Such a gem. I think my PAL version came with the demo.
I love that you got Gaming Historian on board for this video, still a forgotten gem of a game from the PS1/N64 era feels like the kind of job you call apon Derek from StopSkeletonsFromFighting for, just sayin for future videos. also Congrats 12:45 your videos rarely make me laugh but that gave me quite the chuckle ^^
Who else originally had this game just for the fact that it had the FFVIII demo, then was shocked to discover this was the better game? (This also applies to the FFXII demo with Dragon Quest VIII, of which the latter is far more spectacular.)
so happy to see Legend of Dragoon in this opening. the game is so good and a diamond among gems for the PS1. i would love to see Super Beard Bros play this game and maybe even have Jirard complete it and review it.
I had Brave Fencer Musashi, mostly because I was a new fresh-faced fan to Final Fantasy and was excited to play the FF8 demo it came with. But Brave Fencer Musashi was a fun game in its own right, but I don't recall getting all that far in it, and I ultimately sold my copy online for a good hunk of cash some years back because I needed some extra cash. And I do regret it a bit now.
Gosh, I still remember how thrilled I was to get this. I played a demo disc with this game and I think Jade Cocoon on it. I begged my grandmother for both for Christmas, and she kept mishearing the name as 'Brave MuSausage." I was terrified she give up or buy the wrong game, but we got it and my brother and I played it to death. Thanks so much for doing this episode. It was wonderfully nostalgic and I'm glad to see the game still holds up.
If you like Musashi, then I recommend that you play Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection, as they are similar style games. Also, this game did get a digital re-release, but only in Japan.
Jirard, please complete Voodoo Vince. It's a hidden classic. Humor, action, puzzles, and a voodoo doll fighting an evil raggedy ann mech while avoiding missiles.
Check out Nitro Rad. he did that one and others. Jirard, you should totally collab with him! i'm a longtime fan of you and a new fan of him, and he often 100%'s for his reviews as well, it would be a good mix i think.
I loved this game so much as a kid, I couldn't even get to the first scroll till I was able to play it again when I was 16 XD I love seeing you cover retro games I hope we get to see more soon.
Voice acting does not tax PS1 at all. It plays audio CDs with no lag for crying out loud. WAV files are infinitely easier. Only issue is disc space, but I would hardly call that "taxing the system".
I remember I had this on the ps1 demo disk And always played it heavily and I could never find it and I still remember the end of the demo. I litterly just found it and bought it for a dollar and it was mint out of the box! And Omg I wished I could've played this as a kid!

I remember I first saw this in a game magazine when I was a kid, in a remarkable coincidence, my cousin had it and randomly gave it to me when I first got my ps1, and I loved every minute of it.😊
Whoa, Musashi’s sleep mechanic is a call back to the original swordsman. For most of his life he was a homeless swordsman who basically crashed at the homes of interested lords, trading stories and lessons in exchange for room and board. This extended all the way to his dying days - he wrote the Book of Five Rings in a cave, surrounded by his few disciples.
I don't normally comment on UA-cam but had to here. Awesome video! I'm subscribed to both and love both of your videos! For some reason Brave Fencer Musashi was the only PS1 Squaresoft game I never got to play as far as I know. I never saw it in stores...

Tetris
The Spyro History i really like the narration on that video
All of em
His Tetris magnum opus. The ROB episode is my second favorite.
