    It's interesting how conscious you ladies are about kids rebelling if they have rules and boundaries. This is obviously anecdotal but I grew up with many expectations/rules/boundaries. I never desired dangerous rebellion. Not going to parties didn't make me even consider experimenting with drugs/alcohol/promiscuity/whatever the concern is. I wouldn't have even bothered asking about a tattoo.. if I wanted one that badly, surely I would still want it when as an adult myself, I could make the decision of sounder mind. Just something to consider! Having rules doesn't mean your kid is going to go craycray and defy your boundaries. I don't feel I missed out on anything growing up the way my parents raised me. And I don't mean to make it sound like I was soooo sheltered. But I genuinely appreciate that if I made a stupid decision, it was a "safe" stupid decision. Thanks for sharing, Cim sisters!

    This might sound strange but I love how you guys don't want to shame your daughters for their clothing choices. I definitely went through that and didn't dress scandalous at all. The craziest thing I wanted to wear was sleeveless dresses(with the thick 'spaghetti strap', if that makes sense)and that was a huge issue. I got shamed for wearing skinny jeans and dresses and skirts that were slightly above the knee. My mom called me a slut for wanting to wear short shorts in the hallway of our apartment complex and I was 22 at the time. 🙃 As soon as I started high school, my parents decided not to trust me without me giving them a reason not to. To them, everything thing I did was to impress guys. I couldn't even smile without it being assumed that it was about a guy.

    I don't know if this is helpful or not 😂 but I only went to one or two safe and sound sleepovers, and then I realized I didn't like to share my mornings with my friends because it felt a little too personal, so I never went to any more of those, simply because I didn't want to. BUT THEN, every single sleepover I went to was because I was going to a party and I knew I was going to get drunk, and a sleepover was the perfect cover since my parents wouldn't see me drunk. I said it in the last episode and I'll say it again (Lisa said it perfectly, I love her); the more rules you have on your children, the sneakier they'll become. You can try to protect them as much as you want to and restrict them from all this friendships and experiences, but they'll always find a way to find those dangerous experiences some place. It's always better to let them get a taste first and then let them come up with a decision after they've known what the ground is like. Everybody learns from experience. I know, parenting is very hard.

    I agree with the clothing appropriateness, but it's interesting how the color coordination varies between countries. Like, in China, white is an appropriate color to wear at a funeral, red and gold (yellow) is good luck for a weeding. Very different than western culture of black at a funeral and white at a wedding.

    For cussing, my mom always said if it’s offensive and towards someone. Don’t say it, and that there was words we can say around some people and words we shouldn’t say around others.
    Also for tattoos, I always loved meaningful tattoos. Like I will always I want to get the quote “be your own anchor” in the shape of anchor until I make it happen. That quote is from the show teen wolf and it’s always stuck to me. Also like a meaningful tattoo of lyrics that got you through whatever. And as a girl a cute design tattoo like butterfly or a heart.
    For social media as well, my mom was okay with me meeting friends online into real life when I was younger{16/17}, as long as she met/talked to the parents first. But I have had a close bad experience at 13, where someone older who had a friend of mine added, had commented on a Facebook photo unconditionally. I instantly blocked and told my friend so nothing happened to her either.

    Okay, literally with the sleepover thing-mothers have such good intuition. I had this friend in elementary school, and I really wanted to spend the night for some bday party. I remember like the day before the party, my mom said I wasn't going, and I was upset. She said she had a terrible dream about it, and didn't feel God's peace about me going. Later that year, that friend was sadly molested by neighbors. So just sayin-mamma's know things, and trust your gut.

  • @snoozedmuse
    @snoozedmuse Рік тому

    My mom was molested with her best friend by the friends dad at a sleepover in highschool, so I'd be the "you can stay at our place" parent. The father ended up ending himself, my mom and her friend still have so much trauma from that. My stepmom is also a probation officer with background check access, so I'll be taking full advantage when it comes time for that. 👀 It's 2023 and society promotes instability and craziness over Righteousness, the diligence it takes just to be decent and modest is a real thing 😒

    Cursing was a huge no for me and my sister growing up. We weren't even allowed to watch anything on TV with even the smallest curse word in it. As an adult, I have no problem with "hearing" it (though I definitely don't want to listen to it all the time), but as for my kids (if I ever have any) cursing would still be a "no." The Bible says to have no profane words coming out of your mouth, so I think it's safe to say it wouldn't be a good habit to start. Plus, words have power. Words have meaning. There are so many different words, better words, you could use that aren't so derogatory or hurtful. ALSO: No kid has the wisdom or the long-term insight to decide if getting a tattoo is smart. They probably won't even be able to make a good judgement on that when they're a legal adult. I'm SO GLAD my parents would not have let me get a tattoo when I was under eighteen if I'd have wanted to. I would have regretted it so much.
