I used to love Mechwarrior when I was a kid in the 90s, and finding this movie at that time was like one of the greatest childhood joys. I couldn't believe I had never heard of it, it was being played on TV. Of course I was too young to take in any of the problems with the movie, I just loved all the stop motion scenes... And the most impractical, if cool, control scheme in desperate need of back support.
@@johncasarino5627 Exo Squad was great series- but there was an actual Battletech cartoon that came out before that. If you search "Battletech cartoon"- it should pop up.

Right? The ways its long body comes down from above reminds me of another 80s classic, Inner Space. Even though it was an action comedy, the mech suit in that movie spooked me. Ah childhood.
Three things I didn't realize about this movie having watched these scenes again for the first time since I was a kid... 1) I think every "giant robot" movie made since 1989 bites a piece off of this one! 2) Using the enemy robots' own severed jet-fist against it was exactly how Captain Incredible killed the enemy robot in "The Incredibles"! 3) CHAINSAW PENIS!?!? What?!
If I was a billionaire I would remake this movie, in an exact scene by scene recreation for modern audiences lol. Even toss in some stop motion to truly pay homage.

I remember renting the VHS of this at blockbuster and being enthralled by mighty battle bots. This movie singularly created in me a love for large war bots. From there it was Battletech, Transformers, and Gundam in that order.
Yeah, exactly! I always remembered this movie from my childhood, (wierdly kinda always at the back of my head despite so many years had passed) but could never remember it’s name. Finally, it’s a reunion most welcome. (But also very nostalgic and tragic in some ways). Haha I’m happy and* sad (mostly happy, though).
There were three of these Full Moon Entertainment "giant robot" movies- _Crash and Burn, Robot Jox_ and _Robot Wars-_ that all either shared footage or models or both.

There's a Battletech/MechWarrior cartoon series from the 90s. You can find it on UA-cam. It's really dated- but it's still neat to watch.

I would have lost my mind when I was 10 if we got a whole movie of this instead of 6 minutes. Now we have unlimited CGI and it is meaningless.
I think condensing it like this, actually makes it a better movie.
