Jacob this hit home with me big time! Recently I informed many people about my plans, and what do you know....the people with families shot it down, saying it was stupid, stay here, etc. The single people cheered me on, saying that I should do what I want! I'm gonna move to Las Vegas because i'm sick of long island NY, sick of the cold and snow, sick of paying so much $ for everything. An added bonus is being able to enjoy my hobby as a gun enthusiast! Thank you for this video and all of your videos. One of my favorite quotes is from the movie Vanilla Sky. "every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around" -Sofia Serrano

@@JacobslifeinVegas Wow, looking back on this from 3 years ago, glad I made the move! I initially moved to Vegas, stayed there for a week at a rental, then decided to checkout Arizona. Been living in Tempe Arizona for almost 3 years now and love it, I love how Vegas is only a 4-5 hour car ride away, 1 hour flight. My only gripe is that I didn't make the move out here 10-15 years ago, I'd own a house by now. As it turns out, the people that told me not to leave the east coast, have LEFT also!

I've been binge watching all your videos. My grandmother and I are planning to move to Vegas regardless of what the family says. There is just nothing here for me in Georgia. I want to start a career in photography and writing. And I think there is way more opportunity there. Plus, it's not too far from Cali (my dream place). So I can visit anytime I want!

There are a lot of places to take photos in the Las Vegas area. The Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, southern Utah, and all the National Parks in Utah, provide great photo taking opportunities. Also, California is also so close, and Arizona is right there near the border of Utah and Nevada. That sounds like a great plan, I love taking pictures myself.

OMG. That's exactly what I went through when I left Michigan to move to Las Vegas. people will say the most negative things like oh my God it's so hot there. I'm like yeah I know it's the desert. They only tell you these things because they do not have the courage to do what I did or what you did. I have been here for a year and I freaking love it. I noticed people that move to Vegas they either hate it or they love it there's no gray area. And it's funny you said that it was something pulling you here. I have always felt I was supposed to move here or go west or something and it was like calling me. And then I get here and find out I have more family here than I do in Detroit. I just freaking love it!

    • @JacobslifeinVegas
      @JacobslifeinVegas  8 років тому +2

"They only tell you these things because they do not have the courage to do what I did or what you did" Pretty much. It's a way for them to try to save their ego. If you do something that takes a lot of courage, then they have to look at themselves and be responsible for the fact that they haven't done anything like that.

I watched this video only days after making the decision to put my house on the market so that we can move to Las Vegas. This video really helped me know for sure that this is the best decision for my family. I've been in love with Las Vegas since the first time I went there. I have waited for 15 years and with all the changes in my life one thing has stayed the same. I know that I still want to live in Las Vegas. Your videos are great. Watching your videos has given me so much information and answered so many questions that I had. But this video in particular has touched me on a personal level. Thank you so much for sharing. You and Laci have kept me inspired while we count down the days til we can finally follow our dreams and live in Las Vegas.

Hey Jacob. I absolutely agree with your philosophy on doing what is best for us as an individual. I have a friend back in. New York City who has been trying to persuade me to move out of Las Vegas for the last couple of years. He thinks Vegas is just the strip, and he can't see the forest for the trees. I will never move back to NYC, but I have been toying with the thought of moving to the southeastern part of the country. I. believe that people have to make changes based on what is right for them, and not what friends, relatives or acquaintances think is right for them. Love the videos pal. Keep up the good work. :-) Robert

I like a lot of your videos but this one is my FAVORITE! You couldn't have said it any better Jacob. This is what my husband and I have been going through with family. My mom always said not to talk so much about what you're trying to do cuz it'll get watered down. Doesn't translate too well in english but it's something I live by. People's vibes can totally mess up your plans/goals. I like to keep my stuff on the DL and let people figure it out as it happens. This move to Vegas was something we decided to tell a select few cuz we knew many would be against it. It's not their choice tho. We all have to find what's bests for us. Thank you soo much for this video. I would've liked it on FB but ya know gotta keep it mum lol. Keep up the good work Jacob!

I'm am very happy that I found your channel. Presently, I'm residing here in Greenville, NC. I'm a single male in my late 30's that is not married, no kids, no friends and a lonely guy. I been here all my life and it's a freaking boring town with nothing to do here. It's nothing but a college town where students go to nightclubs downtown to get drunk and pickup women that's it. I had been here all my life and I worn out my welcome here. There is nothing here left to do. I talk to my mother about me moving away from here and she don't support me. We constantly always fight and argue about me moving. The good news is that I'm making enough money through online marketing so I can be an expat. I want to travel and see the world. If I don't move away from this town I will be in a mentally oppressed state of mind. You're right, I agree with you that you should never tell your family, especially your mother, about your plans to move away from where you currently are. If your family doesn't support your move and they try to talk you out of it, you will be mentally oppressed for years in that boring town that you are currently in plain and simple.

You hit it right on the head. This is the exact approach that I took. When my wife and I discussed the possibility of moving here, we only told a few of our closest friends. She did tell her parents. They certainly did not want us to go but they didn't try to talk us out of it, either. Everyone knew our situation and supported us because they wanted to see us improve our lives. However, I chose to wait to tell my family until my wife secured her job. I felt that it was just better that way. A few members of my family weren't on board at first, but they came around. And as far as our friends are concerned, Vegas is already a destination for them. Now they have another reason to fly out here, and several of them have since we moved here. Life has been great here and I have zero regrets.

A year ago I moved from a small town to Moscow. I moved to find a job and I didn't tell my parents about it until I sat in a bus. I called my mom and told her that I'm would leave home and she started crying and telling that I have to stay and because of that I was really upset, she made me feel really bad by her crying and discouraging talking. So I 100% agree with you that one should do what he feels he have to do and not to tell his relatives, they maybe wish only good to you,but they will only discourage you.

Jacob - Out of all the videos you've done, I think this one hits the nail on the head the most for me personally. I live in SJ, CA, currently, and have (for many years, and as you know) experienced the ripoff this area has become. I'm a ways out from making the leap - saving takes forever - but one day want to get out to LV.
The perspective of following your own path - and ignoring naysayers be it family, friends, or both, is Crucial. People who genuinely care mean well, but it doesn't matter what they think. They may be negative about the idea because privately they wish they could take a similar plunge for themselves. I look at LV as an adventure. It's unlike any other city on the planet.
I like your advice about not telling anyone - probably best approach - but I've mentioned it to friends and family anyway. And it's ok if they roll their eyes a bit, because it allows me to practice the virtue of ignoring negativity.
    I've been complacent too long.
"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone."
    Perfect ideology for L.V.
(by Jay Vieira in this thread)
And Thank You for all these videos. I do think they help bring a measurable perspective to what LV is all about. Keep your camera rollin', and God Bless you.

You just spoke on the state of my life right now!
Vegas has been grabbing at my best friends and I who are coming out there to open a dispensary. We planned this out 2 years ago before Vegas officially became a rec state. I made my first trip out there by myself a couple months ago and I fell in love with it. I just basically made it a business planning trip but the vibe away from the strip was so surreal. I liked the burbs more than the strip even tho I'm definitely a night life type. You get a great dose of everything in such a close proximity . Coming from a big city like Chicago it's a relief
Didn't realize it till a couple weeks ago but it's a funny story. I started a clothing brand out here in Chicago a couple years ago called "LV8" or elevate... which we didn't notice till now is an acronym for
    Las
    Vegas
    8 ( 2018)
The friend who came up with the name with me is now one of my future business partners 😂

Hi Jacob! Amazing video! I'm going back to college much older in life. I went to UNLV and the jr. College. The hospitality industry is great there. When I lived in Corpus Christi, my trainer Luke said that he wouldn't live in Vegas cuz it's so unhealthy. He's a body builder who thinks that Vegas is just for party animals, alcoholics, etc. A lady in Austin said it's a good place to get arrested. Unfortunately, I've been arrested a few times, but only in Vegas. The only thing I'm afraid of is being around a bad person who could get me in trouble. I don't do drugs. I invited my younger sister to live with me in my rental house on Hazelnut Dr. I didn't realize that she had a bad gambling habit. I paid for everything, the rent, food, I even cooked for her and cleaned up after her. I gave her $120 to pay her phone bill. I let her stay in the house for 2 weeks alone so she could unwind. Then when I returned she said she needed $100 for some new shoes at Walmart. I told her I just paid the $1100 rent, $400 utilities and $200 for food. When I asked if I could go with her to get the shoes she said no. It was my last $100 so I told her no. Then she said she was going to beat me up as though she was in a trans leaning against the wall. She was an M.P. with combat training. She punched me in the face and gave me a brutal beating. When she got tired I went to my room and she tried to kick the door down. I went back to the living room turned her around n did one martial arts move. She fell on her face and got a big bump on her forehead. Then I called an idiot from a dating line, cuz no one would help me. He said to call the police so I'd get it documented. They took me to jail for 14 days cuz of her bump. I haven't seen her since. I talk to her on the phone but I don't trust her anymore. She has anger issues. I don't like being alone. In California when I lived in Santa Monica for 6 years I had amazing college friends back in 1994 who were there for me 24/7. In Vegas, my only friend was my dog. I'm afraid of moving to Vegas. I don't ever want to be arrested again. I'm a people person and they say don't trust people in Vegas, cuz they're mostly users. Maybe only a handful of genuine people, but they never want to associate with me. I feel that as a single, middle aged woman I can be a target cuz I get so lonely. I was friends with a Phillipino lady who dated a cheapskate who was bi-sexual. She was a black jack dealer who moved back to Southern California to work at a Indian Casino. She wanted me to move back with her but I stayed in Vegas. She was my only friend but also a gambler. Her name is Lucy. Once she took me to a Casino and told me to have a drink n wait by the bar while she gambled. When she lost her money she told me to walk home. Eventhough, her boyfriend was an engineer who drove a brand new porche, he made her use her comps to pay for his expensive dinner. Her brother Roger and I sat together while they ate desert cuz we didn't have enough money. He gave her a shaver as a gift. He denied being bi-sexual until after they hooked up. There's a lot of financial predators out there.

Even if the move doesn't work out, to know you at least tried can be comfort. My early 20's I moved half way across country to try a new life. A place where other family members moved to and was happy. I was there a year, but the place never seem to click for me. I ended up back to where I grew up, and now 40 years later am overall happy being back where I started. I do not regret that move years ago as I did meet new people, and have new experiences, but best of all I don't deal with wondering if I made a mistake, or missed an opportunity. Odds are the move will work for you, but if it doesn't, you will know in your heart where you are meant to be.

+JacobslifeinVegas You are so right Jacob...that's how I feel. I plan to relocate but I'm keeping quiet about my plans because my family is negative...especially my mom. I graduated from college last month but all I need is a job outta state...I don't want to relocate somewhere without a job offer and I feel it's hard to get an offer when I live in another state. Anything you recommend for me applying for jobs out of state? Should I put a family member from Vegas address on my resume? I need some tips.

    • @JacobslifeinVegas
      @JacobslifeinVegas  8 років тому +1

You could use a family member address. Really, getting an entry level job (regardless of what your degree is in) isn't that difficult. To find some work for $9-12/hr to just get some money going while you figure out what you really want to do isn't too hard. I took a visit for a week to Vegas to apply for jobs in person, and got hired. Doing that lets employers know you're serious about moving to Vegas.

Hi Jacob, watching so many good videos on moving, I just finished watching the video on moving, How you came about getting your first job. LOVE how you told the story and find it so captivating and how amazing, the universe works in so many ways, and I do believe everything I'm doing seems to be moving in the right way. Growing up my entire life in San Francisco, and being a long-time resident of San Mateo, Sadly, it will be all for the better. You all put great content on all topics with other Collab., especially Las Vegas Gal, She is so fun and awesome, looking forward to watching more.

Another thing. When you buy your house in Las Vegas, make sure it has a good air conditioning and heating. This is really true if you come from a place like California where air conditioning and heating aren't as curcial.

Just came today from LV. Visited family a few days and then explored some areas, my biggest con is the Heat. Luckily after talking to several locals a Bartender in at the Sky Linq, i think that's what's it's called said he and his wife been there for 30yrs and told me how to deal with the heat. I didn't like it, lol, but he simplified it for me and it made sense. Thank you for all of your videos. They are very real and motivational in a way. I believe, I might just be moving in late January early February 2017. Keep up the good work with the videos.

Truer words have never been said. I did everything the exact Polar opposite from your advice. I made my decision about 10 years ago and told everyone. They told me I'm crazy to go out to Vegas because it's hot year round and I should move to Florida or move to Georgia or Dallas and there's nothing to do but gamble. I said Nope, nope, Hell no. I now have 6 months before I retire and am packing and searching for a house. Listen to Jacob kids, make a plan and stick to it and Don't tell a Soul. Unless your like me and don't give a damn about what anyone says. Between you and me don't tell anyone your secret because all of them will move everywhere but Vegas and we can keep this little secret to ourselves.

Currently applying to Grad school at UNLV. I thought you were directly speaking to me when you said (A)Dont tell a lot of people about your vision and (B) The family and friends who never leave this area, they won't fully embrace my decision anyway so It's about growing up. Thank you so much for this video and you just reconfirmed exactly what I have been feeling and why I think LV is a great fit. Awesome video, and I appreciate you opinion.

I have had a friend ask why I would move to Las Vegas and tell me I will regret it. We live in Portland, OR and he thinks it’s the best place ever. Portland is a nice city, but I don’t think it’s for me. I’m not afraid of moving from where I have always lived because I don’t feel trapped. If I missed Portland it’s not like I could never go back.

what's up J.O. You preaching to the choir right now. Haleluyerrrr! (Tyler Perry's Media Voice) I did the same thing. When I came out here last November to interview for jobs, I flew out here for 6 hrs for the first time ever in my life and ALONE. Because I wanted it that bad. I wanted a fresh start. Ppl who "cared for me" did think I was crazy, and ppl tried to talk me out of it. Also realized some who "cared about me" started chugging that infamous "Haterade" drink and become envious that I was moving mountains and turning stones over to make my goals a reality while they stayed behind not achieving any milestones of their own. Now here with two jobs, I am working my PR royal ass off towards building my ads and marketing online business that I have so that one day when I start generating sufficient "stable and sustainable" income via my marketing and ads, I'll quit both my jobs and finally be on the path to financial freedom. I now see myself buying my first home here by next year. I'll end this with a partial quote (my fav part of the quote that is) "And like muscle fiber it can be strengthened and lead onto unimaginable conquest" ~Napoleon Hill~ (as he explains how a thought, turns into a desire, then turns into a much deeper "burning" desire, that turns into a well thought plan of action that converts into action that ultimately renders achievement of ones goals (whatever the goal is) etc. Thanks for the vid.

Thank you thank you for this, I needed this boost of encouragement to say I don’t care what friends and family say about moving to Vegas, I love my family but it’s my life and life is way too short to what if you’re entire life, I’m pushing my fear of change aside and I’m doing what’s best for my family. I’m definitely taking you’re advice and keeping this decision to move to myself because I know what they will tell me and you’re so correct about how fragile a dream or big decision is in the beginning, one negative comment and you’re decision or dream is shattered, I’ll tell my friends and family about moving when I ask them to help me load up my u haul truck, that way I’ll let the negative bull shit go in one ear and out the other, take care Jacob 😊

Hi Jacob, so glad you stuck with it. You seam happy. I have to agree with you . Normally you are so cheerful and I could see that it was hard for you but good for you keeping your focus and finding what makes you happy.
People can be really negative and it hurts, so keeping it on the down low is smart. I want to move over from the UK and the few people I told were negative about it. I'm lucky that I have a weeks' holiday the week after and spending that time in Vegas made me forget about the negative people and now I am quietly working towards moving.
I wish you well and very much enjoy your videos. Your Uber/Lyft stories are so funny. Thanks
