RIP Samuel Kenneth Johnson, beloved father, who rebuilt his 53 pan in a tin shed out back of our double wide in small town Wyoming, true American, he had to on account of losing his leg in a motorcycle accident but wouldn't stop him from riding again and providing us boys and mom the best life he could and he did, miss you old man thank you for making us better men and thank you for uploading this gem.
I was in the Navy in South Texas in 1971 and on a whim, bought a panhead chopper. Sure miss that scooter. I'm 75 now and this old hippie rides a Road King. Don't quit riding 'cause you think you might be too long in the tooth. Toke a wolf turd and get out on those back roads and just live for the ride. Peace out to all those who straddle a V-Twin. FJB
Some remember riding these some of us still do. It's always the most bitter sweet look in the eyes when talking to someone about that bike they had when I'm out on mine and to remind them of those times is an honor and a tradition.
Bought my pan in 1983, i was 20 and had a 66 xlch, I am 58 now , my 63 pan in a 48 frame with a 74 in motor and pull bag drag bars, has evolved to 93 in sidewinder with a villain tank, 16 in apes on 4 1/2 in risers, upsweep fishtails, and dynode at 99 horse, and 105 ft lbs if torque, Thanks to Hans ad advanced engine builders in wareham ma
1957 FLH road her for 40 years .Lost a lot of bags when they blew out of watch pocket. Drank a lot beer. Fought my way out of a few bars. Knowing that jumping on the pan head an running wasn't an option. God I miss those days.
Love it! I've got a 2011 "Thumper" Suzuki S40 (LS650,) Sacrilegious - I know, but I love that low end torque and the simplicity of the machine. @ASE_Mechanic
If I was a motorcycle outlaw!!! I’d have one and god bless David Allen coe!!! but I’m a different outlaw I love the four legged kind !! God bless all the motorcycle cowboys !!!!!
I currently ride a Evo but I worked and slaved to buy her after getting hit by a car on my twin cam and nothing has ever been given to me. I respect the words you said.
Remember when David Allen Coe sold his album in Easy Riders magazine? The hits like Come Stains on the Pillow , Pussy Whipped Again . One of our hero's forever . I had a 62 Pan , now a 74 Sportster old Ironhead .
I CAN'T RIDE ANYMORE, AND THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO BRING LIFE TO MY SOUL. BUT SOMETIMES SOMETIMES!! I THINK ABOUT GETTING A CAN OF HARLEY OIL AND SPLASHING SOME OLD SPICE ON THE CAN. AND THE SMELL AND THE SMELL WILL BRING BACK ON THE MOUNTAIN ROADS AND I CAN BE ALIVE AGAIN . FOR AWHILE. I KNOW THE FEELING I KNOW THE SMELL AND I CAN SEE IT. DEAR GOD.
That is a well done video man. I have an 84 softail named Babydoll. When I saw that your old sled had a name, I knew that I would enjoy this vid. Thanks for producing and posting it.
Thanks. I'm glad you like it. I don't think I've ever had a bike that I didn't name. But The Black was not only my first Harley, but a Panhead...to me, you just dont get any better than that. Hell. I've even named the Ironhead project I'm building in the front room.
I have all kinds of sleds. Imported and also classic and newer HD. When I pull up anywhere on one of my pan choppers everyone looks at the old iron. Nobody cares about softails or whatever else is there

So sad had to sell my 2011 Crossbones pay for mortgage on my dads property before the bank took it, what keeps me going is the hope of owing another HD one day so for now I’m stuck riding a Honda
@Don One, at least you are still riding. I still think the Pan is HD's most beautiful motor, But I love my EVO too, and am actually enjoying the Twin Cam I am buying as I rebuild my EVO. It's all the same wind, keep the Faith and you'll be back on the bike you want.
@@DansCycles I hear ya. I blew out my knee on Aug 12th, and haven't been able to ride since. Going up the walls not being able to ride. Haven't been able to make any riding videos since I can't ride...which is REALLY irritating, But I'll be back sooner than most people think.

Well said
haven’t got a pan head but this still hits hard for a Harley enthusiast.
One the best songs I've ever heard listen to it when life gets to much
Always brings a tear to my eye. Thinking of the brothers that are no longer with us.
IMHO the Panhead is the sexiest power plant the motor company has ever produced!
@@davidmccall4776 I agree 100%! My 1st Harley was a 57 Pan. Been hooked on them since.

Me too 🙂 makes you wish old Dave would have sung a version shovelheads forever....

My Pan was the first Harley I ever had. I still have a soft spot in my heart for Pans, but I love my Evo.
All black wit a little bit of gold
My First Hog , 52 Pan. BAD TO THE BONE
Panheads a true American icon!!!
They are the most beautiful motor Harley ever built.

I sure do. I even had a copy until sometime in the 90s

Barbara, just do it. I can see how that might help you bring back part of what you lost.
... That's a true song and truth always hides a greatness ... from Athens - Greece, Micke ...

I just wish I had a pic of my 57 to go in that vid...but after 30 yrs, the few i had of her are long gone

BRILLIANT!!
At 1:10..... Check out that WIDE GLIDE .....OH AND THE BIKE TOO.....WOWZERS...
It’s a love hate relationship with my panhead but Iam definitely gonna get buried with it.
She's hard to get started
She's always so cold
In the mornings I find her -
She's looking so old
There's so many miles
I've been down that road once or twice
She's not much to look at
When we ride through town
But I know when the chips fall
She won't let me down
She knows how to run
And she don't run around on her man
She's a high flyin' lady
She takes me where I want to be
There's no other woman
Standing between her and me
I'll always be faithful
And keep her 'til the end of time
God knows I'll always love
That old Panhead of mine
I've seen fancy dressers
And they've caught my eye
I rode'em to ride'em
Then I told them goodbye
I flirted with Low Riders
Sportsters and Shovelheads too
I cussed her and beat her
And kicked her to just get her started
A couple of times
God knows I'll always love
That old Panhead of mine.
thanks, I just wish I had a pic of MY old Panhead...this would have been the one pic with the song playing ...so maybe its better this way?
John boy AT I LUV MY PAN HEAD!!

I hear ya. Lost my '57 back on June 12, 1981.
I still have my 54 Pan that I bought in Feb. 1981
What the song?
The song is called "Panheads Forever" by David Allan Coe
If you know you know lol 🤣
Who can even afford one these days?
I've seen them as low as $12,000 recently. Much easier to afford now than about 10 years ago.
