I used to work for the Indycar Series (as a pilot) so I am slightly biased, but it’s absolutely one of the best motor racing series out there. This coming from a big F1 fan as well. Nothing compares to the uniqueness and skill it takes to compete in Indycar. Thanks for the love!

No power steering is a big shake up. Pretty sure all the former f1 guys have mentioned that. Its a hell of a lot more physical racing. Love it. As a 30+ year McLaren F1 fan I started watching IndyCar when they joined the series. I prefer IndyCar to F1 now! The racing is closer, better overtaking, better crashes & it seems more down to earth and not snobby like F1.

I dont think its talked enough how easy it is to meet your favorite driver or team owner. Indycar goes to great lengths to make themselves accessible. I would really hope that you would decide to cover the Indy 500 instead of going to Monaco. I can understand the joy of Monaco lifestyle, but as racing enthusiast best advice i can tell you is to experience the 500. If you are meaning small incidents of wheel to wheel contact then I agree because that's what happens with close racing series.

My local Kroger has a fuel points rewards program, along with a credit card, that allows a discount of up to $1.25 a gallon. This meant I filled up my car for 14 cents a gallon. Total bill for just over 10 gallons was $1.47. Not per gallon, per full tank! I was wondering if it would go any lower but it didn't. It was crazy.

Man, I love both racing disciplines. I'm going to the Detroit GP in a few weeks. There's no doubt that the racing itself in Indycar is dramatically more entertaining than F1. The big downside (in my opinion) is the relative lack of technology in Indycar. The cars are boring and sound boring. I'd venture to guess F2 cars would be relatively quicker than Indycars. Get those guys some aero and let the teams compete a bit more from a technology and aero perspective. I really hope Indycar keeps improving. In the meantime, I'm happy to be a fan of both.

Indycar is it's own thing. They have ovals and a teams championship while F1 has a constructors championship because each team make there own cars.

It seems a moot point to me as it appears the US viewing figures for F1 Miami this year we’re down 25% on last years race which were a paltry sub 3m so in that regard IndyCar will probably rebound and pick up many of those bored newer F1 fans.
F1 is a constructors series not a drivers series and by its nature the car is the star and no matter what spin is put on driver rivalries etc, the best car will win the WCC & WDC for its best pilot whether it be the Schumacher/Ferrari, Vettel/Red Bull, Hamilton/Mercedes or Verstappen/Red Bull years.
The newer F1 fanbase (not just in the US), seems to be losing interest because they see domination of one driver/team boring. Bottom line for those fans is this is F1 and if you want to see the drivers make the difference then IndyCar or some other series is probably more for you.

There is room for it all- and more. The perspective that people forget is that at its core F1 is a CONSTRUCTOR series, and Indycar is a SPEC series- like F2, F3 and others. The F1 prizemoney goes to the team, and under the rules the team is a constructor. There has never been consistency in the field in F1, because the field is divided into two- those that have this years secret (often named Newey) and those who don't. It's always been about the best engineering, and often we'll see the best driver in a not front running car because another team has something special. Simply, put Max in a McLaren, he doesn't win the championship (and Jos' head explodes). But Indycar has everyone driving the same level of tweaked Dallaras from 2012 (it's still the DW12) with the only real variation being the engines. Of course you're going to see a better mix in the results- because at the end of the day the car doesn't matter that much. It's no different in concept to F2 and F3 where it is about the driving. I watch F1 for the best cars. I watch Indycar, F2, F3 and better still weekend club level stuff for racing. The best racing I see in the lower categories at club events
