I’m happy to say we live in God’s own country. I live an hour and a half south of Perth, Western Australia. I love my home, my state and country. A couple of points - Yep, we have snakes, spiders and other animals. America has bears, rattle snakes too. There are only a few spiders that can kill, and we have antivenin for snakes and spiders. First aid covers how to treat them. Red back spiders used to be considered deadly, but now you apply ice and monitor and only is you get an anaphylaxis reaction do you need to seek emergency care. As for snakes, sure, don’t walk in tall grass during summer months when they come out (they hibernate in winter as they are cold blooded). Make a noise when going through the bush, and they’ll keep away from you. They really don’t want to be bothered. Our crocodiles are cold blooded creatures so they are only in the tropical areas up in the North of the Country. Sharks swim all over the world, so anytime you are in an ocean, they are there. I’d always to suggest to swim between the flags at a beach. We have surf lifesavers who patrol those beaches. They look out for sharks, rips (that kill too), and drownings etc. Australians learn to swim early, even during school. My kids were in classes at 12 weeks old. “Teach your kids to swim, it’s great. Kids alive, do the 5” is the promotion we have. That 5 includes, Fence the pool, shut the gate, teach your kids to swim (it’s great), supervise and learn how to resusitate. And yep, healthcare is expensive. I have private health and it costs around $7500 a year, but my Hubby had a knee replacement 2 years ago and we only paid the excess of $500. It cost well over $22500. I don’t think it’s that bad. We had no wait, and that is why, if you can do it, health insurance rules. He may have had to wait a few years under the public system, but that is 100 percent free. Life threatening treatment like cancer surgery has hardly any wait time. Doctor’s appointments and treatment outside of hospitals are very expensive. I have to have yearly MRI and ultrasounds. I’ve been doing that for about 5 years now. The MRI is not covered by Medicare, and that costs me around $800. The ultrasounds cost around $270 but I get $90 back from Medicare. The specialist visits cost over $300, and I think there is about $90 reimbursed on that. If I was a pensioner, and I still have more than 10 years to go, then I would most likely get a Pensioner Health Care card and the Doctors bulk bill those appointments, so there is reduced or no gap sometimes in the X-rays etc and appointments. We are a long way from countries in the Northern Hemisphere, but we have close neighbouring countries, such as the beautiful New Zealand, PNG, and Indonesian countries. Family can visit, and you’d be able to show them around… I have a niece who married an American, and she has had 2 American children. Her family visits her and she will be home for Christmas this year. It is possible. Yes we have a lot of Natural weather events, but so do a lot of other countries. We gather around those who have suffered, and we lend a helping hand. We’ve had music concerts for Flood and Fire relief. We even held a concert for the Tsunami that happened in Indonesia and raised about $25 million or so (don’t quote me on that). 🇦🇺
