Yet another masterpiece from Alter Bridge. Such an outstanding band.
Mark said in an interview that at first he wasn't going to sing on this song but for whatever reason when Myles sang it their producer said that he wanted to try giving Mark the lead because the song could benefit from a deeper and raspier vocal tone. And that's how it came to be. Now fans love hearing Mark on songs. Words Darker than their wings may have kicked that trend off where he sings the pre chorus,

Love the structure of this song, think you would love "Bleed it dry" from Fortress too, again no official live recording unfortunately

Unfortunately, the recorded version is much better than this performance. Definitely worth listening to the version from Fortress.
Even the Royal Albert Hall version. Thats the best live one I've seen
If you go back to Creed he also sings the pre chorus on My own Prison. This may be where they got the idea for Words darker than their wings but who knows
Words Darker...was a song written after Mark and Myles had a conversation about believing in a higher power vs not believing. The idea for the song came from this conversation and basically the battle we have every day on religious beliefs. Myles vocals are the darker side of things where he doubts there is something out there. Mark's vocals are the lighter lyrics where he is saying to not lose hope in, but it's alright if you don't believe in something that may be beyond us. Has nothing to do with what Mark did with Creed.
@@brandonhaines1920 I'm not referring to the concept in which the song was written, but the idea of having dual lead vocals in general. Mark's already done it on My Own Prison. I'm saying someone may have brought it up like "Hey wouldn't it be cool if we divvy up the vocals like you did back on My Own Prison?" My fault I re-read it and realized I wasn't clear.
