I LOVE a good gel cast! I shower at night, diffuse, and sleep in the cast. I get such good results when I scrunch out the crunch in the morning and my curls last for days!!
I really liked when I used to do this and should probably start doing it again. Also slightly less effort on wash day. I don’t have to worry about showering with enough time for my hair to dry before doing anything just an hour or two before bed and I’m good to go.
My hair NEEDS the hard gel cast to make my hair last 5 to 7 days. I scrunch and clap the cast away and if it's really hard to get it out...alil oil helps alot!
@letsgoladies I use the aussies instant freeze usually, I've switched to using mouse with gel recently for summer time but the rest of the year I use the aussie. I use 4 quarter size blobs by the time I do both sides of my head, 1 for a top and rest of tht one to glaze what ever is left over rest of hair, micro plop n air dry for 10 min and the last one I glaze the hair again right before defusing n im good....just gotta make sure to scrunch it in really good and I usually don't have to use oil to scrunch the cast out.
Well, after being on this journey for 2 1/2 yrs, I've found out the same thing as you. I've had best wash days when I have a gel cast. So, I've been light on the creams and been styling on just wet hair, not soaking & dripping. Since I've started styling on not soaking hair, I would just mp (micro plop) and then wp (wet plop) for about 10 minutes.
Agreed! My hair is as short as yours and I find that I get the best curls when I get a really good cast. I don’t diffuse either because on my hair I get more frizz
Completely agree!! The crunchy gel cast has been my key to week long definition. If I get a good cast I don't have to do any refreshing on the days the follow!!
Use a silk scarf or a My perfect towel type thing to avoid frizz & make it easier. Clapping it out is great too. I actually use a diffuser to heat my cast. It is actually interesting that if you use the prongs to break the cast when your hair is 80% dry you can avoid stringiness and get volume without frizz. MopTop said something & i read it a few places then the stylist.. but the last 80% you scrunch your hair in the diffuser and swirl it around at the roots. You can start that as soon as you feel a cast. The curls being cupped keeps them from getting frizzy.
Ooooooooo… The gel cast is definitely my friend and your hair looks like it’s friend, too. I agree with everything you said. If I don’t add enough gel, my long hair doesn’t hold the waves and curls as well. I think the hardest part for me is remembering how much gel I used the last time I did my hair.
Unless I have a serious gel cast my curls won't last longer than wash day. I don't like the gel cast, but I've accepted that it makes a real difference. It's a learning curve to find out how much is too much but I am getting it most of the time. I seldom use so much that I can't get the cast out but every once in a while, I still do.
I find I definitely need a crunchy cast to get longevity out of my wash days. My hair is your current length. Best crunchy cast for me is whipped egg whites. I whip them with a handheld milk frother until they look like mouse and use it as my final styler. I glaze it on and scrunch it in, then diffuse. I would love to see you try it!
I live in the UK where its humid and rainy all year long and I need a gel cast. I tried with only cream and lately tried with mousse. Nah, i want my gel. 😅
My hair looks great in a cast, I'll do it on days in home all day. I leave it in and sleep with it in a bonnet, but when I wake up my hair is POOFY 😢 I feel like I'll never figure this out

I think that transition needs some applause 👏
I use my damp t-shirt to scrunch out the crunch when my hair is completely dry! Amazing!
This is GENIUS!!!
This haircut looks fabulous on you!! Pretty curls!
Oh thank you!

Lovely as usual
Thank you so much 😊
Yes this is my trick too!! Legit can go up to 3 days and a 4th w a headband or hat hahaha
Looks good. What inspired you to chop so much length?

Could you try this with a side part that’s not so far over
I agree!
Use oil to soften the cast

What gel did you use to get your gel cast? Lol
She has a video in this exact stuff.
Same

I hate gel
That's okay!
