    Youre right, the entire Whitsunday Islands area is both beautiful and amazing.
    I lived in Airlie Beach in the late 70's through to early 80's. It was very much a back water town then and that was its real charm. The caravan park on the beach was one of the main attractions haha.
    Looks like theres been loads of development, even a marina! Wow!
    I understand development has to happen but in this case its a bit sad to see what was such a beautiful unspoiled free to roam place now organised and structured like any coastal town.
    But its still one of the best places on this planet of ours 🍻

      @@user-hv8ir2ef6r wow... thanks so much for your insights there.
      I always love hearing storys like this.
      Even in the last 20 years I've seen many changes and there is not just 1 , but I think 3 different marinas now and even that Is different to my first visit.
      You use to go to shute harbour to get boats to the whitsundays, where as most leave from in town now.
      I still think of it as a small town, especially compared to other major tourist hubs in Australia.
      In the end, I hope there is a balance between development and over tourism. Just to keep the beauty ❤️

      @@AquariusTraveller 3 Marina's! My god!
      Yes Shute Harbour was the place to fill your diesel tanks on the boat or catch a ferry or barge to one of the islands or any of the reef tours.
      Airlie beach was the yachties paradise, there were always many dinghies on the beach from yachties picking up supplies etc.
      So many fond memories and quite a few drunken ones HAHAHA
      You do know they tried to build a police station in Airlie beach and it was blown up prior to completion, they never tried again, instead they created Cannonvale and built the cop station there. That's the Airlie beach I remember. If the car had an up to date registration sticker on it, it had to be a tourist! Lol

      @@user-hv8ir2ef6r I few drunken story's myself from the early days. I even wandered the streets for Australia day in the early 2000s.
      Some nice memories. ❤️
      That's intersting about the police station though.
      What I hated on my last visit was all the paid parking facilities. There was so much free last time but all changed and had to use an app to start and end a park.

    • @user-hv8ir2ef6r
      @user-hv8ir2ef6r 12 днів тому

      @@AquariusTraveller That's a sign of the times, just to have parking facilities is a leap forward, before anywhere you could fit would do. An app to park by, that's a bit sick.
      In fact the only "marked parking spaces" in Airlie beach was not at the beach front, that was a very well worn bitumen road/dirt track, but on the right hand side looking from the beach there was another road, better quality, there was a pharmacy and an IGA type general store. There was parking there for perhaps 4 or 6 cars.
      Airlie beach was a well kept secret until Peter Allen bought some land up on the hill and built a big house, for memory that was 1978 or 79, land prices went from a few thousand to 100's of thousands almost overnight. I'd hate to think what land is worth there now.
      In fact talking about land, South Molle is on the market, now that's a place that holds so many great memories. Very tempting indeed.
      I could talk your ears off with stories from there but I won't waste your time. It was inevitable that the area would be developed, it's too good to be ignored and once you're out on the water, away from the app controlled parking spaces, the true freedom and beauty of the Whitsundays will always be breathtaking.
      One question though, can you still get buckets of oysters from Narra Inlet at low tide or have the oysters been picked clean?

    • @AquariusTraveller
      @AquariusTraveller  12 днів тому

      @@user-hv8ir2ef6r I've never even heard of Nara Inlet until now (just looked it up), so can't answer your question. But I hope there is still plenty of oysters there one day for you 😀
      I found a forum about it, but can't tell the date if it's current, so others seem to know about it!
      I hope to hire a boat on my next visit and wander the islands on my own, we'll see after I get everything else I have planned filmed...lol

    I'm surprised seeing so many people in the water without stinger suits. I thought that most of the year you can not go in the water due to the Irukandji and box jelly fish?
