@@karissakho my flight was about 11am but tides will change slightly each day and you'll need to check them for when you want to visit. There is a blog linked in the description with links to tide charts to help you find the best time on your day 😀
Thank you for replying Chris. Unfortunately they only have mornings left on the days we are visiting around next week and tides are 2.8-3.0 m during those times. Would really love to know what your thoughts on this is it worth doing? It will be sunny on that tine and clouds around 30% wind speed is at 25-28 km/hr
@@karissakho Morning sessions are actually better due to the position of the plane and the cloud cover is looking good too. The tides are about the same as what this footage was taken in, but I think you have better wind speed (i think mine was about 30kn/hr plus). Are you checking the stats from Hamilton Island, instead of Airlie Beach? What date are you looking at?
Wed love to walk along Whitehaven Beach to see how it compares to our squeaky quartz beaches here in Florida. It looks gorgeous from above. All of your footage from this flight was so pretty 😍
This beach would be one of your top contenders to compare to what your use to. I could also name some others in Queensland you would like....but no tiki bars right beside them...lol 😂
@@AquariusTraveller It is perfect for somebody wanting to do the flight, very helpful. It is hard to have all the elements working with us simultaneously, but the scenery sure is amazing.
Sorry... I've got a lot of work on my blog right now and been uploading fortnightly for the time being. I'm hoping to go back to weekly on UA-cam by next year, or sooner if I get my blog sorted earlier 😁👍
You bet they do.... the guide was telling us about the Whitsundays, which islands were which and the names of the resorts we could see 👍👍. We were wearing noise cancelling headsets to help 😁
You can visit the Whitsunday Islands at any time, but it's such a large area. Although certsin tides can create a different experience depending what you want to do. Tour operators will pick the zones where to snorkel based on the time you go out and will try to get to Hill inlet at low tide
Be very careful booking a flight to view the Barrier Reef. I was on a cruise from Singapore to Sydney December 2023. On 6th December we were at Airlie Beach. As the helicopter flights over the Reef were sold out with the cruise ship I booked a flight with Viator. Company name Fly Australia Pty They were to collect me at 438 Shute Road. I got the cruise ship shuttle into Airlie and a taxi to Shute Road. 438 could not be found The taxi driver never heard of it Locals didn't know it Shops or tour operators never heard of 438. The driver eventually phoned me and was to collect me at Mc Donald's fast food restaurant but never turned up. Messed up my one at Airlie. Viator would not refund my payment So my advice only book with cruise ship or when you arrive at Airlie.
I've never heard of this company either and sorry for your bad experience. Always pays to get the word out...good or bad and make sure people know about it. I've done a cruise to noumea and only booked the tours on the boat, much easier to organise that way with transfers etc. Thanks for the information 😁
My flight was booked with the same company that took us to Whitehaven beach, but I also talked to them about the combo package beforehand..... but I was also staying at Airlie.
Hi I usually use the cruise company shore excursions for the convenience (even though they are at least twice the price) The previous day to Airlie we were at Cairns and I took a flight over the Reef there. Our pilot even landed on a small white sand island (atoll) on the Reef It was just this company and Viator I am Irish and was depending on them to give me a proper location for collection. They wouldn't collect me at the tender port for my ship. They could have easily gave the address of a large well known hotel (eg The Airlie Beach Hotel ) for collection and Viator could have put the location the helicopter was at and I could have went there. In fact, the ships' shuttle passed by Airlie Airport where probably the helicopter was at I had booked the tour in September and had sent several emails to the operator and Viator to make sure collection was prompt and correct The ship was only docked for about 7 hours at Airlie
By the way, even though The Barrier Reef is gorgeous, it isn't in the running when compared to Bora Bora in French Polynesia The different colours of the water, coral. Wow
@@eamonntynan2235 your right...the third party programs need some more clarification and although I've never had any issues, I do know some people have. The barrier reef tours leave from both the proserpine and Airlie airport, so took me a bit to research and make sure I didn't have an hour return trip for mine. Yes... there are other areas that are more impressive with reef flights and I love comparing them. This particular flight was limiting for me and the reason I did the video in picking a better time.

Great video Chris. This is extremely beneficial for anybody considering doing such a flight.
How about those views! 🤩
Thanks, I just didn't want people making the same mistakes I did. While my flight was pretty good, it could have been better!
